Planar multi-junction thermal converters were fabricated for precise measurements of the ac voltage and current by an ac-dc transfer method. A heater and a thermocouple array were fabricated onto a sandwiched membrane, $Si_{3}N_{4}$ (200 nm) / $SiO_{2}$ (400 nm) / $Si_{3}N_{4}$ (200 nm), a thickness of $0.8\;{\mu}m$ and a size of $2{\times}4\;mm^{2}$, which is supported by a surrounding frame. The NiCr heater is located at the center of the membrane vertically. Hot junctions of $48{\sim}156$ pairs of thermocouples (Cu-CuNi44) are located near or onto the heater, and cold junctions are located onto the silicon frame. Output of the thermal converters for 10 mA dc input was $76\;mV{\sim}382\;mV$ dependent on a model, and short term stability of the outputs was ${\pm}5{\sim}15\;ppm$/ 10 min with 5 mA dc input. Responsivity in air was in the range of $3.9{\sim}14.5V/W$. Responsivity of the model BF48 in air which has 48 thermocouples was 2 times or greater than that of 3 dimensional multi-junction thermal converter in vacuum which has 56 thermocouples. AC-DC transfer differences with an input of 10 mA or less were less than ${\pm}1\;ppm$ in the frequency range from 5 Hz to 2 kHz, and about $2{\sim}3\;ppm$ at 5 kHz and 10 kHz.

A new composite manufacturing technique which combines winding and curing together is studied and analyzed. This method is especially suited to the manufacture of thick composite materials in which thermal spiking is a common problem. An experimental apparatus was designed and built for use with a filament winder to continuously cure a thick composite cylinder. A hoop-wound composite cylinder with 152 mm wall thickness was manufactured and embedded thermocouples and strain gages were monitored throughout the cure process. The experimental data were compared with analytical results.

The free convection in a vertical tube open at both ends and heated at the heated at the wall is studied by analytical approach and checked by experiment. The flow is assumed to be both stable and laminar. The incompressible boundary layer equations fot the system were solved by a finite difference method for conditions of constant wall temperature and conctant wall heat flux. Temperature profiles of the flow in the tube were measured by thermocouples and are compared with the calculated profiles. Agreement of the analytical and experimental results was good.

The heat generation of angular contact ball bearings and deep groove ball bearings is studied with experiment and simulation. The temperature variation of inner, outer races and the temperature incresement distribution are measured by using thermocouples for the shaft speed, preload, viscosity of lubrucant and lubrication method. The measured values from experiment are used to estimate the heat generation rate. Oil-air lubrication using oils with different viscosities and grease lubrication are adopted.
The biological effects for the use of hypertherinla to treat malignant tumors has been well studied and encouraging clinical results have been reported. However, the engineering and technical aspects of hyperthermia for the deepseated tumors has not been satisfactory. We have developed the FF capacitive hyperthermia device(GHT RF8)by cooporation with Yonsei Cancer Center and Green Cross Medical Equipment Corporation. It was composed with 8.10 MHz RF generator, capacitive electrode, matching system, cooling system, temperature measuring thermocouples and control PC computer. We have measured the temperature and thermal distribution in agar phantom, animals and human tumors.
In this experiments, smoke filling behaviors in a large space were investigated. Also, it found that the smoke filling time can be predicted with a simplified zone model. Thermocouples were used to measure the temperature of the hot gases layer and also later to determine the smoke layer depth. Height markers were also hung from the roof so that observers could visibly assess the smoke layer depth.

A calculating method of transient temperature distribution due to spot welding of thin plates is studied in this paper. Considering the contact stress between upper and lower plate and temperature-dependence of specific resistance and elastic limit of base metal, the model of calorific density of heat source was decided. Using 2-dimensional polar coordinates system, the governing equation of heat transfer was developed. The thermal cycles of various points were recorded using C-A thermocouples during spot welding procedure for mild steel plates of 1mm thickness, and those results were compared with the results of calculations presented in this paper.
A thermoelectric flow sensor for small quantity of gas flow rate was fabricated using silicon wafer semiconductor process and bulk micromachining technology. Evanohm R alloy heater and chromel-constantan thermocouples were used as a generation heat unit and sensing parts, respectively. The heater and thermocouples are thermally isolated on the $Si_{3}N_{4}/SiO_{2}/Si_{3}N_{4}$ laminated membrane. The characteristics of this sensor were observed in the flow rate range from 0.2 slm to 1.0 slm and the heater power from 0.72 mW to 5.63 mW. The results showed that the sensitivities $(({\partial}({\Delta}V)/{\partial}(\dot{q}));{\;}{\Delta}V$ : voltage difference, $\dot{q}$ : flow rate) were increased in accordance with heater power rise and decreasing of flow rate.
In order to investigate the effects of heat treatment on the thermoelectric motive force (EMF) of type R thermocouples, the changes of EMF in the freezing points of aluminum and silver cells were measured with the immersion depth of themocouples. With the variation of heat treatment methods before use, it was found that the EMF values were different from each other, maximum $17.1{\mu}V$ at $660.323^{\circ}C$ and $18.1{\mu}V$ at $961.78^{\circ}C$. Additionally a thermocouple, which was not heat-treated fully, showed an EMF difference with the immersion depth even though it was located on the region maintained at the constant temperature. The measured differences were about maximum $7.8{\mu}V$ at the Al freezing point and $18.9{\mu}V$ at the Ag freezing point. It was recongnized that a thermocouple for the precise temperature measurement should be heat-treated carefully before service. In this report, the proper heat treatment methods for the type R thermocouple were given on the basis of the obtained experimental results.

Fire-resistant boom is one of the most important facilities in in situ homing of spilled oil. Thermal response of a fire-resistant boom to turning is experimentally investigated in this paper by using an electric furnace and a burning test facility. This test facility is composed of a test tank, a fire boom, a hood for inhaling smoke, an incinerator for burning up gases and thermocouples, etc. Thereby a systematic method of approach in small laboratory scale is developed to study the performance of a fire-resistant boom. Burning test is carried out for the fire boom model which has been developed through the present study. It is shown that the present fire boom model has capability to withstand the high temperature around 800℃ and high rate of heat flux on it due to homing. For more realistic experimental environments, larger dimensions in devices and longer time in experiments are recommended in near future.
