This investigation reports the grinding characteristics of titanium alloy(Ti-6AI-4V). Grinding experiments were performed at various grinding conditions. The grinding forces were measured to investigate the grindability of titanium alloy with the five different wheels including Green carbide, Alumina, Resin Diamond, Resin CBN and Vitrified CBN. To investigate the grinding characteristics of titanium alloy grinding force, force ratio, specific grinding energy and grinding-ratio were measured. Surface roughness was also measured with tracer and the ground surfaces were observed with SEM Residual stress measurement was conducted on the X-Ray Diffractometer. Force ratio of grinding of titanium alloy was very lower than that of grinding of SKD-11 Surface roughness with Resin Diamond wheel was a little larger and rougher surface than that with other wheels Grinding ratio of titanium alloy was a little lower than that of other materials. Grinding ratio of titanium alloy with Diamond wheel was almost six times larger than that With CBN wheel. As a result of five different wheels, the most excellent wheel in grinding of Titanium alloy was Resin Diamond wheel.
This paper deals with the fabrication of titanium carbide using fine titanium hydride. The ratio of $TiH_2$ and C (Activated carbon) was 1:1 (mol) and milled in a planetary ball mill at a ball-to-powder weight ratio of 20:1. Thereafter, TGA was performed at $1400^{\circ}C$ to observe change of weight with milling time. Titanium carbide was obtained by using tempering the milled powders at $1100-1500^{\circ}C$. The microstructures of titanium carbide as well as the change of the lattice parameters and particle size have been studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
Titanium powder prepared by dehydrogenating the titanium hydride which is synthesized by reacting Ti-sponge (99.67%) with hydrogen using the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis method. In the synthesis of titanium hydride, the particle size of the product was found dependent on the amount of hydrogen incorporated into the titanium such that the particle size of titanium hydride decreased with increasing hydrogen pressure and after-burn time. In the dehydrogenation process, as the dehydrogenation time increase, the particle size of titanium powder increased due to partial melting and sintering of titanium particles.

Statement of problem: The adhesion between titanium and ceramic is less optimal than conventional metal-ceramic bonding, due to reaction layer form on cast titanium surface during porcelain firing. Purpose: This study characterized the effect of titanium-ceramic adhesion after gold and TiN coating on cast and wrought titanium substrates. Material and method: Six groups of ASTM grade II commercially pure titanium and cast titanium specimens$(13mm{\times}13mm{\times}1mm)$ were prepared(n=8). The conventional Au-Pd-In alloy served as the control. All specimens were sandblasted with $110{\mu}m\;Al_2O_3$ particles and ultrasonically cleaned for 5min in deionized water and dried in air before porcelain firing. An ultra-low-fusing dental porcelain (Vita Titankeramik) was fused on titanium surfaces. Porcelain was debonded by a biaxial flexure test at a cross head speed of 0.25mm/min. The excellent titanium-ceramic adherence was exhibited by the presence of a dentin porcelain layer on the specimen surface after the biaxial flexure test. Area fraction of adherent porcelain (AFAP) was determined by SEM/EDS. Numerical results were statistically analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Student-Newman-Keuls test at ${\alpha}=0.05$. Results: The AFAP value of cast titanium was greatest in the group 2 with TiN coating, followed by group 1 with Au coating and the group 3 with $Al_2O_3$ sandblasting. Significant statistical difference was found between the group 1, 2 and the group 3 (p<.05). The AFAP value of wrought titanium was greatest in the group 5 with TiN coating, followed by the group 4 with Au coating and the group 6 with $Al_2O_3$ sandblasting. Conclusion: No significant difference was observed among the three groups (p>.05). The AFAP values of the cast titanium and the wrought titanium were similar. However the group treated with $Al_2O_3$ sandblasting showed significantly lower value (p<.05).
The ${\alpha}-{\beta}$ phase transition of titanium was investigated through in-situ EF-TEM heating experiments. Three different areas of a titanium foil were observed to minimize statistical errors. Systematic recording of diffraction patterns and images was carried out from $RT{\rightarrow}600^{\circ}C{\rightarrow}900^{\circ}C{\rightarrow}RT$ on each area. The following results were obtained: (1) Transition of titanium takes place very rapidly at $900^{\circ}C$. Two phases of titanium, ${\alpha}\;and\;{\beta}$, coexist at this temperature. (2) The transited ${\beta}$-phase appears in the form of twinned plates which are arranged in rotation relationship one another. (3) Analyses of electron diffraction patterns and EDS data indicate that the thermal oxidation layer is gradually formed on the surface of titanium above $900^{\circ}C$, which hinders the reversible ${\beta}{\rightarrow}{\alpha}$ phase transition upon cooling.
Titanium in solution of EDTA (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) yield well-defined, reversible polarographic waves. In this report, a polarographic method for rapid determination of titanium in the Korean ilmenite was proposed, This polarographic method is based on the measurement of polarogram in the supporting electrolyte of EDTA. As the pH is increased the wave become more irreversible the diffusion current are diminished, and the half wave potential become more negative. In spite of the complication arising from numerous titanium species, in 0.2 M of EDTA, pH 6.3, the titanium waves are reproducible and analytically useful. In this medium titanium ion give well-defined reduction wave, and the half wave potential were -0.61V vs S.C.E. at pH 6.3. At the same time, the wave had a linear relationship between the concentration of titanium ion and the wave height. The Korean ilmenites were analyzed by this method and satisfactory results were obtained.
In the present study, the focus is on the effect of cobalt oxide powder in the carbothermal reduction of the titanium-cobalt-oxygen based oxide powder by solid carbon for the optimizing synthesis process of ultra fine TiC/Co composite powder. The titanium-cobalt-oxygen based oxide powder was prepared by the combination of the spray drying and desalting processes using the titanium dioxide powder and cobalt nitrate as the raw materials. The titanium-cobalt-oxygen based oxide powder was mixed with carbon black, and then this mixture was carbothermally reduced under flowing argon atmosphere. Changes in the phase structure and thermal gravity of the mixture during carbothermal reduction were analysed using XRD and TGA. Titanium-cobalt-oxygen based oxide powder desalted at $600^{\circ}C$ had a mixture of $TiO_2\;and\;Co_{3}O_4$. And the one desalted at $800^{\circ}C$ had a mixture of $TiO_2\;and\;CoTiO_3$. In the case of the former powder, the reduction of cobalt oxide powder in the titanium-cobalt-oxygen based oxide powder occurred at lower temperature than the latter one. However, the carbothermal reduction of titanium dioxide powder in the titanium-cobalt-oxygen based oxide powder with a mixture of $TiO_2\;and\;Co_{3}O_4$ occurred at higher temperature than the one with a mixture of $TiO_2\;and\;CoTiO_3$. And also, the former powder showed a lower TiC formation ability than the latter one.

Titanium has been used in various fields due to its good corrosion and erosion resistance, and superior mechanical properties. The process for selective electro-deposition on a titanium surface using laser beam is proposed in this paper. The process consists of laser irradiation, electro-deposition, and ultrasonic cleaning. Laser irradiation can change the surface morphology of titanium. Through laser irradiation, the surface cleaning effect and a rough surface can be achieved. The surface roughness of titanium was measured according to the laser beam conditions. The characteristics of selective electro-deposition on titanium surface according to surface roughness are investigated by various analytical methods such as SEM, and EDS.

Photocatalytic removal of benzene from air was examined using titanium dioxide photocatalyst films prepared on soda lime glass(50$\times$50$\times$2 mm) by spin coating and chemical vapor deposition. For the measurement of photocatalytic reactivity titanium dioxide coated glass was placed into a batch reactor and concentration of benzene in the reactor was set to abuot 100 ppm, and then illuminated with UV. It was found that catalytic reactivity of titanium dioxide films increased with the increase of titanium dioxide film thickness and then level off beyond a certain film thickness. UV absorption by the films showed the similar trend. The formation of stoichiometric amount of carbon dioxide was confirmed by measurement of carbon dioxide concentration in the reactor. In general spin coated films revealed better photocatalytic reactivity than chemically deposited one within the experimental ranges covered in this study. Morphology and crystal structure of prepared films were investigated by XRD and SEM and they showed significant difference between spin coated films and CVD films. Highest quantum efficiency of prepared titanium dioxide photocatalyst was close to 50%.
This study proposes integrity evaluation method of weld zone in titanium using titanium distance amplitude characteristics curve(TDACC) and ultrasonic signals. For these purposes, the ultrasonic signals for porosity defects of weld zone in titanium are acquired in the type of time series data and echo strength. 4 lines in the DACC indicated damage evaluation standard of weld zone in titanium. The acquired ultrasonic signals agree fairly well with the measured results of reference block and sensitivity block(defect location, bean1 propagation distance, echo strength, etc). The proposed TDACC in this study agree fairy well with the measured results of weld zone in titanium(weld defects as porosity). The proposed TDACC in this study can be used for integrity evaluation of weld zone in titanium.
