  • For maintaining railroad, accumulated passing tonnage is a determinant factor of appropriate rail replacement time. Recently, Seoul Metro's rail maintaining system and technology is being improved from previous years, which increasing a standard of rail replacement. Thus, this brings importance of estimating and managing for accumulated passing tonnage. In case of light weighted train such as subway, current method of calculating accumulated passing tonnage has defaults of misrepresenting accumulated passing tonnage data. Because current method is based on the weight of passengers and train., and operation data. In addition, currently there is no mechanical and electronic system that could represent and support the accurate data between heavy and non-heavy traffic area, and accumulated passing tonnage is calculated inaccurately by estimating average value each line. The current method of calculating accumulated passing tonnage misleads to unpredictable data that represent inappropriate rail replacement period, which leads to under or over analyzed replacement period. If accumulated passing tonnage is over estimated, rail replacement leads to waste of budget. Hence, it is necessary to construct reliable actual measurement system to manage rail's life safely and efficiently, and in this study the accumulated passing tonnage measurement device is installed with using rail pad of optical fiber sensors and its effect is analyzed.

  • Internal and external railway management corporations are using the periodic replacement criteria of rail by accumulated passing tonnage and wear to maintain rails for servicing. However, internal the periodic replacement criteria of continuous welded rail(CWR) by accumulated passing tonnage is the one(50kg/m-5 million gross tonnage, 60kg/m-6 million gross tonnage) presented in Japan before. It was estimated with the fatigue life about 50kg N rail joints applied diesel train load but it wasn't applied to current conditions of track; elimination of rail joint, using the concrete slab track and operation of light train load and effect of welding, manufacturing technique, grinding of rail. Therefore, in this study, it was investigated the types of damage and cause in welded rails and examined standards and information resources. Also, this study presents preliminary data to revise the periodic replacement criteria of CWR by current accumulated passing tonnage in bending test of laid welded rail and a survey of track maintenance history of Seoul metro.

현장측정을 통한 노후 레일의 피로수명 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on Estimation of Fatigue Life of Aged Continuous Welded Rail using the Field Test)

  • It is essential to reduce track maintenance costs and to extend the periodic replacements of continuous welded rails based on accumulated passing tonnage. As recently train load decrease and rail joints wear down less, the periodic replacements of continuous welded rails can be extended. There are many kinds of rail damage like squat, head-check and corrugation. These can be taken nondestructive or naked eye test. So the periodic replacements of continuous welded rails based on accumulated passing tonnage were examine with focusing on a crack of rail bottom of continuous welded rail. Therefore, this study measure dynamic response of track by metro train load, it compute impact coefficient and track spring coefficient for estimating a condition of actual track system. Also, it is converted the measured stress waveform into stress frequency histogram by the rain-flow counting methods, and then the equivalence of stress is calculated. As apply s-n curve of a new welded rail, accumulated fatigue damage ratio of laid rail and remaining service lives is estimated. This study suggest a plan of the periodic replacements of continuous welded rails based on accumulated passing tonnage classified by the types of track system.

도상직업에 의한 도상 횡저항력 변화 (Variation of Lateral Ballast Resistance due to Ballast Work)

  • Lateral ballast resistance is one of track components that causes much effects in track buckling. Ballast work or tie renewal if is done the ballast original lateral resistance lose. Reduction of lateral ballast resistance may significantly reduce the stability of track. Lateral ballast resistance that is decreased by these work increases slowly according to the increase of train passing tonnage. We measured the ballast lateral resistance in Okchon station neighborhood in Seoul-Busan line to grasp fluctuation phenomenon of ballast resistance by ballast class-2 work. The rate of decrease of ballast lateral resistance shortly after ballast work and the rate of increase by increase of train passing tonnage were investigated.

도시철도 콘크리트궤도 목침목 분기기의 손상현황 (Damage Status of Turnout System with Wooden Sleeper of Concrete Track on Urban Transit)

  • 본 연구는 도시철도 콘크리트궤도 목침목 분기기의 손상현황 및 손상유형별 원인을 분석하고자 현장조사를 수행하였다. 또한 약 24년간의 분기기 유지관리이력을 열차 통과톤수와 연계하여 운영 호선별로 구분하여 손상발생빈도와 연계분석하고 현재까지 수행되어온 손상항목별 궤도보수내용의 적정성을 비교 분석하였다. 도시철도 콘크리트 도상에 적용된 목침목 분기기의 특성상 목침목 하부에 삽입되어 있는 침목방진패드의 성능유지가 중요하다. 현장조사결과 목침목 분기기 궤도구조의 적정탄성 수준 부족에 따른 손상 및 다양한 유형의 레일손상이 조사되었으며, 레일의 손상은 독립적인 손상이 아닌 다른 궤도구성품의 손상에서 기인되어 유발되는 경우도 다수 발견되었다. 분기기 궤도구성품별 손상빈도 분석결과, 손상발생빈도는 레일, 타이플레이트, 나사스파이크, 목침목 순으로 나타났으며 이를 바탕으로 목침목 분기기 궤도구조의 주요 손상유형은 목침목의 변형에 따른 나사스파이크와 타이플레이트의 고정상태불량에서 기인된 손상이 주요 손상유형으로 분석되었다. 연구결과, 분기기에 적용된 목침목의 변형은 레일체결장치구성품의 고정상태 불량을 초래하고 이로 인한 연계손상이 유발될 수 있음을 현장조사결과를 바탕으로 분석하였다. 또한 분기기의 중점 점검항목 및 현행 분기기 점검 시트의 보완점을 도출하여 개선 안을 제시하였다.

강화노반 두께 결정을 위한 영향인자 민감도 분석 (Sensitivity Analysis of the Factors Influencing for Decision of Reinforced Roadbed Thickness)

  • The purpose of a railway track is to provide a smooth surface for safe and economical train transportation. The performance of the track results from a complex interaction of the track and subgrade components in response to train loading and environmental actions. In the past, the role of subgrade as the track foundation were not recognized adequately. There are insufficient information and inadequate methods for subgrade design, assessment and improvement. This situation has survived for a long time largely because a subgrade defect can often be adjusted by adding more ballast under the ties or applying more frequent track maintenance. Therefore, the application of reinforced roadbed technology will be expected to increase in the future. The reinforced roadbed thickness is set depending on subgrade reaction modulus$(K_{30})$ in the condition of upper subgrade through PBT in both conventional railroad and KTX railroads. As train velocity (V), train passing tonnage (N), and train axial load (P) are not considered in design, the roadbed thickness could be overestimated (or underestimated). Therefore, In this study, the computer model, GEOTRACK, was analyzed the influence of reinforced roadbed thickness factors on track modulus and the characteristics of stress pulses in track and subgrade generated by repeated axle loading.

표면 강화처리 레일의 마모 및 피로 특성 (Wear and Fatigue Properties of Surface-Hardened Rail Material)

  • Railway tracks are repeatedly overstressed and damaged owing to increase in passing tonnage and numerous contact cycles between wheels of train and rails. In order to ensure safe train operation, heat-treated rails are used in addition to regular inspection and maintenance of these rails. Normal rails were treated using ultrasonic nanocrystal surface modification (UNSM) to strengthen the surface of rails. A few changes in surface properties were detected with respect to hardness and compressive residual stress after UNSM treatment. Wear and rolling contact fatigue tests were performed using rails whose surfaces were hardened by UNSM and heat-treated rails. The amount of wear and fatigue life cycles were measured to estimate the effect of UNSM on the rail material. The material of the surfacehardened rail showed improved wear and rolling contact fatigue properties.

  • 최근 연구결과 레일연마 및 장대레일화로 누적통과톤수에 의한 레일교체기준의 연장이 가능한 것으로 보고되었다. 본 연구에서는 현재 도시철도에서 사용 중인 대표 궤도구조에 대해 실운행 열차하중에 의한 궤도의 동적 응답을 분석하여 현 궤도의 상태평가를 하였으며 궤도의 상태 변화에 따른 레일의 부담력을 검토하였다. 또한, 측정된 응력파형을 Rainflow Count Method를 이용하여 응력히스토그램을 작성하고 등가응력을 상정하여 신규 레일 용접부의 S-N 선도에 적용함으로써 노후레일의 누적피로손상도 및 휨 피로수명을 산정하였다. 최종적으로 본 연구에서는 궤도구조 및 상태를 고려한 레일교체기준의 개정을 제안하고자 하였다.

도시철도에서 열차제동하중이 레일표면 열화에 미치는 영향 (An Effect on Braking Force for Degradation of Rail Surface in the Urban Railway)

  • The rail surface irregularity is generated severely by train braking effect in the section of station. The braking force increases slip rate and friction factors caused by wheel-rail contact points. It brings rail surface irregularity as well. In this study, interactions between wheel and rail were investigated using rolling contact fatigue theory and mechanism of rail degradation through fracture mechanics. For the more, the Von-Mises stress occurred on the rail due to the interaction between wheel and rail was analyzed using 3-D finite element method. The amounts of surface irregularity of rail were measured according to accumulated passing tonnage in urban railway in fields. Therefore, the maintenance of rail should be separated by running and braking sections to prevent RCF defects.
