Transfer Capability Enhancement to Population Center Using VSC HVDC System (부하집중지로의 송전용량 증대를 위한 전압형 HVDC의 활용 방안)

  • This paper presents a transfer capability enhancement process using VSC HVDC system which can control active power as well as reactive power. The transfer capability is constrained by stability like voltage stability as well as thermal rating of power system components. Transfer capability of the power system limited by these constraints may be enhanced by reactive power control ability and active power flow control ability of the VSC HVDC system. To enhance the transfer capability of the system using VSC HVDC, selection of the HVDC installation site is performed. In this work, power zones which consist of major power plants and their sinks are identified using power tracing and distribution factor. Alternative route of major AC transmission line in the power zone is identified as VSC HVDC system.

  • This paper presents a power transfer capability calculation algorithm Considering Voltage Stability Margin. In this method, voltage stability margin constraints are incorporated into a power transfer capability formulation to guarantee adequate voltage security levels in interconnected Power System. The proposed method is applied to IEEE-24 Reliability Test Systems and the results shows the effectiveness of the method.

  • The SVC(Static Var Compensator) resulted from the FACTS technology can generate or absorb reactive power rapidly so as to increase the transient and voltage stability. In this paper, the SVC is applied to the power system in order to improve the total transfer capability from a viewpoint of static voltage stability and the effects of application of the SVC to the power system are analyzed. The IPLAN, which is a high level language used with PSS/E program, is employed for determining the total transfer capability.

  • Using UPFC(Unified Power Flow Controlled), it is possible to control three parameters(voltage, impedance, and phase angle). The UPFC can generate or absorb reactive power rapidly so as to enhance the transient and voltage stability and also influence the power flow. In this paper, the effects of application of the UPFC to the power system are analyzed from a viewpoint of improving the total transfer capability by enhancing voltage stability. The IPLAN, which is a high level language used with PSS/E program, is employed for evaluating the total transfer capability from a f-V curve.

A Study of Friction Characteristics according to the Morphology of Solid Transfer Film (고체윤활막 형상에 따른 마찰특성의 변화에 관한 연구)

  • Tribological properties of friction materials containing different volume ratios of solid lubricants (graphite and MoS$_2$) were studied using a pad-on-disk type friction tester. Morphology and thickness of the friction film were carefully examined to correlate the friction performance with the property of the friction film. Results showed that the friction materials containing 16vo1. % of graphite and 5 vol. % of MoS$_2$exhibited best friction stability among others. In particular, the thickness of the friction film decreased as the amount of MoS$_2$increased and severe friction oscillation was observed when the friction material contained MoS$_2$only (21 vol. %). Microscopic observations and friction tests suggested that the coherent thick transfer film improved the friction stability.

  • This paper presents a general analytical method for analyzing the instability of unbalanced electromagnetic forces produced in induction motors with an eccentric rotor. The equations to be solved are a set of second order differential equations which give matrices with periodic coefficients that are a function of time due to the unbalanced electromagnetic force. The method is based on an extension of the Floquet theory. A transfer matrix over one period of the motion is obtained. and the stability of the system can be determined with the eigenvalues of the matrix. The analysis results of instability zone were coincided upon comparing that of transfer matrix method with that of rotating frame. Two examples are given. including an industrial application. The results show that the method proposed is satisfactory.

  • The transmission capacity has been highlighted as a problem in the power company according to operated heavy loaded of transmission facility. The total transfer capability in the KEPCO power system is determined mainly by the voltage stability limit and many approaches for enhancement of the total transfer capability has been consistently performed. This paper proposes a study on determination of the adequate var sizing of power compensator regarding the transfer capability enhancement in power system. This method was controlled power compensator in substation becasue of the voltage stability. It was simulated power system using EMS peak data.

  • In this paper we propose a new approach for an analysis and a prediction of combustion instability of lean premixed gas turbines. Our approach is based on the Nyquist stability criterion in control theory and a transfer function representation of a one-dimensional (1D) thermoacoustic system. A key advantage of the proposed approach is that one can systematically characterize the effects of various parameters of a combustor system on combustion instability. Our analysis method was applied to a real combustion system and the analysis results were consistent with experimental data.
