  • Ubiquitous technology is currently being introduced to libraries at the fastest speed as compared to other spaces. However, the introduction of ubiquitous technology to the existing analog space is causing problems despite such intelligence of libraries as the design standards for ubiquitous spaces have not been arranged yet. This researcher analyzed and evaluated the characteristics of design from the ubiquitous aspect of the ubiquitous environment-oriented libraries that are still at their initial stage. The subjects for this study were the National Library of Korea, Myongji University Bangmok Library, and Yonsei University Library. The definition and characteristics of the ubiquitous environment libraries were examined through literature review and the standards for design analysis were derived by analyzing previous studies. Case analyses were conducted to evaluate the design elements in the ubiquitous environment libraries based on the field observation, photographing, and interviews with managers. As a result, functionality, safety, cognition and convenience were derived based on the investigation and analysis of previous studies; informativeness, playfulness, security, and simplicity which are the design characteristics were found. As a result of the case studies, while functionality and safety are met in most of the standards for design analysis, universality was very low. Care for minorities is need in a library as it is a space used by many unspecified individuals.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the management strategies of libraries through exploring the library environment in ubiquitous era. After the internal and external environment of Korean libraries was investigated by papers related with this study, the comprehensive management strategies of libraries were prepared. Five management strategies for library development in ubiquitous era were proposed. They were the strategies of library hybridization, collecting contents, user service diversification, changing library organization and preparing culture of learning organization, and collecting library fund.

  • This study is to research quintessence of information service in the libraries by interpreting 'Information' as it is ubiquitous. For the purpose, it investigates and analyzes information behaviors of the libraries in information-cultural history. The meaning of 'ubiquitous' is understood as a practice that everything we need should be inherent in our lives for its usefulness and effectiveness. Information is intrinsic in our lives and the libraries, information management systems, have been evolved by extending the intrinsic value of information, 'ubiquity'. Human being's history results from information behaviors and the meaning of the libraries consists of production, accumulation, organization and distribution of the libraries. It should be recognized that the ultimate purpose of the library services is for their users. Consequently information systems and technological networks in the libraries should be focused on applications and inherence for the purpose. Model studies of the libraries should be developed to user-centered information services that substantialize the interpretation of information, as it is ubiquitous. This study is a trial for defining the quintessence of the libraries. Furthermore, it provides foundation of understanding what the libraries are.

  • The concept of "ubiquitous", which has been recently discussed in several industries, implies accessing a network using a computer from anywhere at anytime. The ubiquitous technology has been widely researched for distribution, construction, and medical treatments. Now, it has extended its application to libraries. The ubiquitous technology currently applied to a number of national libraries calls for a systematic study of an ubiquitous library. This thesis aims at presenting a model of introducing the ubiquitous technology to university libraries.

  • The concept of ubiquitous is being applied already in Korean public libraries, and ubiquitous technologies are becoming intensively in RFID system and mobile service. This research is a survey study to analyze RFID system and mobile service in Korean public libraries which sees ubiquitous age. The RFID system investigation executed manager group of 15 public libraries where the RFID system is constructed and the 259 person user groups which are the experience which uses the RFID system. It analyzed the construction and management, the percieved system benefits, the use satisfaction, and the technical and ethical problems of the RFID system. And mobile service investigation executed 20 public libraries which provide a mobile service. It analyzed the current condition of construction and the problems on management of the mobile service. At the analysis result, the study suggested the concrete plan to activate the RFID system and mobile service in Korean public libraries.

  • Today we are preparing to accept the ubiquitous library age. This article will serve to define the concepts of the hybrid library, the gateway library and the ubiquitous library which hold the advanced concepts of the digital library. It will review the main projects about them in order to portray what the future libraries will be like and how they can be developed. In particular, the eLib program of the hybrid library, the gateway projects by Harvard University and Penn State University, and the ubiquitous library projects in Carnegie Melon University and Maryland University will be surveyed, through which the characteristics of the information services being operated by the ubiquitous libraries will be scanned.

  • The concept of library is newly interpreted and designed under the environment of U-City. The basic notion of the library should not changed its kernel nevertheless, the new technologies like ubiquitous computing services are applied to the library, which functions in terms of information services, continuous learning programs and communities of practice(CoP). The library is fit for any technologies or environments as organism. Actually the library has been shown in terms of new information technologies with the changes of the times. It leads to comprehend the library as its appearance not as it is. The libraries including even cities have evolved toward ubiquitous(computing) environment. On the other words, the libraries have sought ubiquitous at the past, now they are still chasing it.

  • In the 21st century, Korean society has continually changed into information society, knowledge society, and recently ubiquitous society. Therefore, 'ubituious' has become one of the most popular terms, and in many sectors of our society the ubiquitous environment has become more and more realities. And, universities are facing the need for changes in teaching and learning as well as library services. In this research, to enhance and vitalize the ubiquitous learning and academic library services, the following topics are discussed: First, the concept of 'ubiquitous' is defined and its major elements are examined. Second, the trend of establishing the information environment in higher education and developing the ubiquitous learning are investigated. Third, the present situation of ubiquitous campus and libraries are reviewed. Fourth, proposed are the strategies of developing those ubiquitous learning and library services in universities in Korea.

  • We build middleware architecture with J2EE and LiveGraph to process different ubiquitous healthcare application's data and process that data into useful information, which can play a most important role in decision making in ubiquitous Healthcare System. Application developers mostly rely on third party middleware, tools and libraries (i.e., webservers, distributed middleware such as CORBA, etc.) to respond the emerging trends of their target domain. With this middleware we tried to enhance the efficiency of application by decrease their memory uses, data processing and decision making on another web module which is independent of each application. For middleware system, we proposed an algorithm by which we can find some important conclusion about different health status likewise ECG, Accelerometer. etc., which can be used in various data processing and determine the current health status. In this paper we also analyze some different low level and high level middleware technology which were used to build different kind middleware likewise CAMUS, MiLAN and try to find the best solution in the form of middleware for Ubiquitous Healthcare Information System.
