A various methodologies like eco product design, recycling, remanufacturing have been proposed for the increase of resource recirculation and energy saving worldwide. Uni-materialization in this paper, one of measures is presented. Uni-materialization is defined as the unification or simplification of material that is easy resource recycling and reduce waste generation at source during product design, manufacturing, delivery, use and disposal. This study developed calculates the qualitative and quantitative of assessment index for evaluating target products applicable uni-materialization. There are 9 assessment articles considered economic performance, technological property and environmental property and a study on target product applied assessment indexes. As a result it is possible for 3 target products to apply uni-materialization product except for a window blind, and the concrete concept of uni-materialization for improving objectivity of assessment index and the consideration of industrial distinct character are needed.

In response to national and international regulations for resource circulation and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the automotive industry has tried to reuse scrap parts and defective products produced in the disposal or production stages as recycled resources. Attempts have been made to reach the target recycling rate by reducing the number of material types required for each part. Moreover, in order to achieve greenhouse gas reduction targets while maintaining the performance of existing products, lighter components are being developed. Existing products were 100% incinerated at the disposal stage, but the uni-materialized products were improved to be possible that it could be recycled 90% through scraps and the defective product in the pre-production and production stage. It also appears that the fuel efficiency improves through 56% lightweight compared to the existing product. In this paper, a preliminary assessment is conducted on the applicability of uni-materialized product development of car parts. The environmental impact values of existing products and developed prototypes are compared and analyzed through life cycle assessment.

유니소재화(Uni-materialization)란 제품의 설계단계부터 유해물질 사용을 줄이고, 자원순환 효율성을 높이기 위해 재질 단일화 또는 단순화 하는 것을 말한다. 유니소재(Uni-material)는 재질의 수를 줄이거나 제품의 구조개선을 통해 자원관리 및 자원순환을 촉진하는 일련의 활동을 통칭하는 것으로 유니소재화는 국제환경규제를 선도하고, 친환경적, 지속가능성, 선순환 물질흐름이 가능한 혁신적인 개념으로서, 통합성(Unity), 범용성(Universalization), 독창성(Uniqueness)의 성격을 지닌다. 포장재산업에 있어서 유니소재화 제품은 서용 후 포장재가 재활용 공정을 저해하지 않고 포장재의 재활용을 통해 고부가가치의 재생 제품을 얻을 수 있도록 하는데 있으며 포장재의 기본 기능은 유지하면서 사용하는 포장 재질의 단순화 또는 단일 포장 재질 사용, 동일 재질의 포장재로 구성될 수 있도록 설계 단계에서 유니소재화를 고려한 것을 말한다. 지난 호에 이어 국제환경규제 기업지원센터(www.compass.or.kr)의 자료제공 아래, 포장재 산업에서의 유니소재화 사례를 재질단일화, 재질 단순화, 포장요서의 분리용이성 측면에서 사례별로 살펴보도록 한다.
