With the increasing number of migrants from urban to rural areas in Korea, Population inflow policies have helped increase the number of urban-to-rural migrants which has eased the labor shortage in rural areas.. But, there are new problems in rural areas caused by the "perception gap in regard to harmony, awareness, pride and opportunity to meet" between the urban-to-rural migrants and the original residents. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors affecting the harmony between the urban-to-rural migrants and residents. A survey was conducted among 70 people living in Hongseong-gun in Chungcheongnam-do with an aim to come up with proposals for policies that can help resolve these social problems in the mutual understanding of urban-to-rural migrants and original residents. An ordered logit model was used to analyze the effect of the perception gap between the urban-to-rural migrants and the rural residents. The result of the survey showed that most of the urban-to-rural migrants believed that the increase in urban-to-rural migrants did not bring harmony to rural areas because of the perception gap. Based on these results, we concluded that the following three policy alternatives would be needed: first, development of urban-to-rural migrant education programs for relatively young men; second, a policy supporting various forms of community gathering in a rural society; third, diversification of urban-to-rural migrant education programs such as communication program and conflict management program, etc.

In order to verify the hypothesized research model, the collected data were analyzed with structural equation modeling. The major findings of this study were as follows. First, adult educators' instructional leadership had a direct effect and an indirect effect on learners' performance. Second, adult educators' instructional leadership had a direct effect on learners' motivation. Third, learners' motivation had a direct effect on learners' performance.
The objectives of this study are to analyze the characteristics of multi-cultural families in rural areas and to classify their types by applying multi-variate techniques and cluster analyses. Data for the study were obtained by a surveying 120 married migrant females in rural areas of Chungchengnam-do, South Korea. By utilizing the factor analysis to analyze the characteristics of multi-cultural families, 16 basic variables related to these female subjects were categorized into 6 factors: 'marriage length and age', 'language skill of migrant female', 'language skill of husband', 'family satisfaction', 'income and education', and 'general living satisfaction in Korea with remittance'. By appling the cluster analysis, multi-cultural families in rural areas were divided into the following 5 types: 'stable settlement', 'average but stagnant', 'below average yet positive', 'high- income with little communication', and 'young low-income'. In all types, it is strongly recommended to develop various programs regarding vocational education for the migrant females in order to increase their economic opportunities as well as social status.
The present study examined the cultural sensitivity of community members to migrant wives in Korea. A total of 12 community members: 4 neighbors, 4 practitioners, and 4 public officials from both urban and rural area were interviewed about their prior experiences with migrant wives. The participants provided their personal feelings and thoughts on a variety of issues involving migrant wives, such as cultural integration, cultural knowledge, opportunity equality, cultural originality, language usage, openness, and the movement toward a more multicultural society. Interview results indicated that the participants had perceived others' prejudice toward migrant wives in Korean society; the results also indicated that they wanted to participate in cultural festivals and gain knowledge of other cultures. The majority of the participants endorsed a uni-directional perspective on cultural adaption, and they thought of migrant wives as community members. The participants' attitudes toward a multicultural society were both positive and negative, and they suggested that Korean society is moving toward a broader perspective. Implications of the study and directions for future research were discussed.
The present study examined the overall receptivity of community members to migrant wives in Korea. A total of 23 community members from two regions, Ansan, an urban area and Youngam, a rural area, were selected for the interview based on their prior experience with migrant wives. Data were collected via a semi-structured interview method. The participants provided their personal feelings and thoughts on a variety of issues involving migrant wives, such as how they perceive migrant wives' original culture and lifestyles, the nature of their interaction experience with migrant wives, their overall evaluation of migrant wives, their opinions about migrant wives' cultural adaptation, and their opinions about the on-going transformation of the Korean society into a multi-racial, multi-cultural society. Interview results indicated that, although the participants' attitude toward migrant wives was positive, the overall receptivity to migrant wives was largely based on the traditional sex-role stereotypes typically found in the Korean society. Moreover, the vast majority of the participants endorsed a narrow-minded, uni-directional perspective on cultural adaptation which puts far greater emphasis on migrant wives' assimilation into the host culture than reciprocal influence process between the two cultures. Implications of the study and directions for future research were discussed.
The purpose of this study is to observe the awareness and needs of original inhabitants on urban to rural migration and propose public projects with a consideration of their stance based on the results. To comprehend their awareness and needs on urban to rural migration through their experience related to it, focus group interview was done and three categories were identified as a result, which are 'relative deprivation', 'limitations and difficulties of urban to rural migration', and 'plans for successful settlement'. First, the original inhabitants were discontent towards the government policies related to urban to rural migration and migrant's behaviors seemed to form negative perception on it. Second, financial difficulty and trouble in stable crop cultivation and acquirement of farming techniques were identified as limitations and difficulties of urban to rural migration. Third, the original inhabitants recognized the need of direct communication between original inhabitants and migrants and activation of meetings for exchange of information to positive relationship between the two groups and migrants should have proper attitude and effort to learn the rural culture for interaction and cooperation. Fourth, there's in need for an institution, which serves as a focal point that provides information and support urban to rural migration. Fifth, successful plans for settlements of migrants thought by the original inhabitants were found. Sixth, there's a need for the original inhabitants to play the role of a mentor to the migrants for their settlement and to promote positive relationship between them.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of low physical activity (PA) in Peruvian adults and to identify associated factors. Methods: An analytical study was performed using data from the 2017-2018 Nutritional Food Surveillance by Life Stages survey. The outcome variable was low PA (yes or no), assessed using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-short form. Prevalence ratios were estimated as a measure of association. Results: Among the 1045 persons included in the analysis, the age-standardized prevalence of low PA was 61.9%. The adjusted model showed that being female and migrating from a rural to an urban area in the last 5 years were associated with a higher probability of having low PA than males and individuals who had not migrated, while residing in rural highlands and jungle areas was associated with a reduced probability of having low PA compared to people residing in other geographic domains. Conclusions: Being a female and migration from a rural to an urban area in the last 5 years were associated with a higher likelihood of having low PA. Therefore, promotion and prevention strategies related to PA are required, especially in the female and migrant populations.

Due to the decrease in the school-age population and the overall population, school closures will continue to occur. Currently, most school closures are happening in rural areas, where geographical conditions often result in relatively poor educational, welfare, and cultural facilities compared to urban areas. Additionally, the proportion of elderly populations and migrant women is continuously increasing. In order to effectively utilize closed schools in the future, various efficient utilization methods that align with the social context of the respective regions will be necessary. The purpose of this study is to examine the status of closed school and utilization types in selected rural and island areas of similar sizes through field surveys and literature reviews. By comparing and analyzing these findings, we have identified the predominant utilization types in rural and island areas and assessed the current situation where utilization is lacking. Based on the results, we aim to provide fundamental data for improving and enhancing the utilization of school closures in the face of the ongoing decline in the school-age population.
The purpose of this study, regarding the effect of the marriage immigrant women's marriage adaptation living in urban and rural areas on their quality of the life, is to analyze whether there are any differences in the moderating effect of support from spouses and families for different areas of residence. This is in order to serve as the preliminary data for preparing intervention strategies that are suited to different areas of residence, so that the quality of life of marriage immigrant women may be improved. This study is a correlational research that targeted 304 marriage immigrant women living in urban and rural areas (148 in urban areas, 156 in rural areas). The study revealed that the support from spouses and families, marriage adaption, and the quality of life were lower in rural than in urban areas and that support from spouses and families, and marriage adaptation had a significant positive correlation for all areas of residence. Also, there was a moderating effect of support from spouses and families in the effect relationship between marriage adaptation and the quality of life. Also, it appeared that this moderating effect was more important in rural than in urban areas. On the basis of the results of this study, we propose that customized intervention strategies for each area of residence be developed so that regardless of the area, migrant women will be able to lead a marriage well and live a fulfilling life.
