  • The purpose of this study was to explore visitors' experiences based on two different types of ecological sites: natural and artificial ecological sites. Specifically, this study aimed to analyze the differences in the perceived experiences and satisfaction according to the perception of the visitors to the ecological sites. First, the analysis of measurement factors of visitor experience perception identified four factors such as ecological experience, environment friendliness, sociality, and relaxation. The comparison of perception according to the factor of visitor experience showed that there were significant differences between natural and artificial ecological sites and that the perceived visitor experience was generally higher in the natural ecological sites. The result of the analysis of the influence of the perceived visitor experience to ecological sites on visitor experience showed the relaxation had the largest influence for both natural and artificial ecological sites. The ecological experience and environmental friendliness also had a significant impact on visitor satisfaction in the natural ecological sites and artificial ecological sites, respectively. This paper also discussed the implications for planning and management issues at ecological sites.

  • This is a comparative study focused on the scenic landscape preferences derived from visitors's perceptions at the Dulle-gil and the uphill trail in Bukhansan National Park. Unlike previous landscape assessment methods, this study contains more direct and on-site analysis with methods of understanding the visitors' perceptions by using 'visitor employed photography(VEP)' which requires each visitor to take preferable scenic landscape with one's own smart phone camera. The scenic landscape types at two different trails were categorized and then the types favoring most of participants were verified. There are total number of 16 visual landscape types preferred by participants at both the Dulle-gil and the uphill trail in Bukhansan National Park. As in terms of consensus photography(CP) on the Dulle-gil was found to have more diverse elements including both natural and artificial elements compare to the uphill trail. Furthermore, the perceptually excited node(PEN) at the Dulle-gill were found to be more scattered evenly whereas PEN at the uphill trail were concentrated on the entrance and the top of the mountain. It is necessary to consider that the scenic landscape management at the Dulle-gil and the uphill trail require different approaches. Facilities were set based on careful consideration of distinctive geographical features and vegetation in the Dulle-gil. And the management need to be focus on the 'forested area' maintaining natural state in the uphill trail. Futhermore, the result of the CP and PEN in the trails would be helpful to proceed the next step of landscape perception study depending on characteristics of groups.

  • This study analyzed visual-perceptual centrality as a measure to solve the confusion that might occur in visitor's movement in analyzing contemporary museums that have recently expand. Also, this study proposed a new methodology to understand the relationships of the occurrence and convergence of visual-perceptual power. The existing visibility graph analysis mostly ends up in identifying nodes corresponding to the physical environment of museums while the newly proposed visibility graph analysis is a methodology that can analyze the landmark on which the visual-perceptual power occurs and converges, by setting visible space elements as analysis variables, which showed a possibility to draw more reliable results in parallel to the existing analysis, and the results of this analysis are as follows. A public museum located in downtown has a limitation that it cannot but be multi-layered as a way to enlarge for the accommodation of a variety of programs on a limited site. Also, this study found that the problem of visitor orientation occurring in the multi-layer process was solved by a major space which was visual-perceptually void. Also, its types can be summarized into two types: One is setting parameter spaces (ramps, staircases, hallways) linked visual-perceptually to the major space and the other is solving the confusion of the visitor's movement by composing a simple exhibition space. In particular, it is judged that the type solving the confusion of the visitor's movement by composing a simple exhibition space also had a relationship with changes in the characteristics of the exhibited works by period. In addition, it was found that the entrance also appeared in two types: dependent type and independent type in the major space according to the characteristics of the major space.

  • As the globalization increased, cultural heritage has been widely used as tourist destination. Traditional temples which have valuable cultural resources are important cultural heritages. It was found that most traditional temples which were used as famous tourist destinations lost their intrinsic religious values because of the intensive tourist uses. Sustainable tourism was introduced as an alternative tourism to the conventional one which could cause the destruction of the intrinsic values. Sustainable tourism represents and encompasses a set of principles balancing between visitor satisfaction, economic revitalization of the area, and the conservation of the heritage resources. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the possibility for the sustainable tourism of cultural heritage (traditional temple) by investigating visitors' satisfaction, revisit intention, and awareness on conservation. In order to perform this purpose, Sin-heung-sa was selected as a study site and 339 visitors participated in the questionnaire survey. The study results are summarized into three important findings. First, it was found that the possibility for the sustainable tourism of Sin-heung-sa was high. Vistors' awareness on conservation is high, but visiting satisfaction was medium-high. Specifically, the awareness for heritage transmission was the highest and the awareness for other conservational dimensions such as need for education, conservation for surrounding area, and respect for environmental capacity were also high. Second, visitors' overall and separate satisfactions were not high. Therefore, it was recommended that management strategies are needed to increase the visitor satisfaction because both conservation and visitor satisfaction are essential elements of successful sustainable tourism. The results revealed that visitors' satisfaction could be enhanced by improving safety of the area, providing diverse travel activities and information, and creating unique atmosphere. Third, the revisit intention was evaluated higher than the overall satisfaction, which showed that the attractiveness and competitiveness of Sin-heung-sa was relatively high. Important determinant attributes for revisit intention were analyzed to be good nature(landscape, valley, the fauna and flora) and network with surrounding tourist destinations.
