마이크로 방전가공에서 Round Trip Method를 이용한 전극마모 보정 (Tool Electrode Wear Compensation using Round Trip Method for Machining Cavities in Micro EDM Process)

  • Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is one of the most extensively used non-conventional material removal process. The recent trend in reducing the size of product has given micro EDM a significant amount of research attention. Micro EDM is capable of machining not only micro holes and micro shafts as small as a few micrometers in diameter but also complex three dimensional micro cavities. But, longitudinal tool wear by electrical discharge is indispensable and this affects the machining accuracy in micro EDM process. Therefore, newly developed tool wear compensation strategy called round trip method is suggested and verified by experiment. In this method, machining depth of cut, overlap effect and critical travel length are also considered.

  • In electro-galvanizing line to manufacture the electro-galvanized steel sheet, polishing system is required to maintain clean surface of conductor roll and to secure the quality of the steel sheet. At the same time, prediction and decision of the replacement cycle for felt material and its brush installed in the polishing system is also important because the brush is directly contacted on the conductor roll surface. In this study, the polishing system has been designed which the brush is repetitive translating according to the longitudinal direction of the conductor roll. Furthermore, the prediction on the wear-life of the felt material used for the brush is performed using the contact pressure extracted by finite element analysis. And to verify the predicted wear-life of the felt material, the experimental study is also carried out. From the comparison result between the predicted and the measured wear-life of the felt material, it is presented that the wear-life and the replacement cycle of the felt material are well predicted by considering a wear compensation factor, and the wear compensation factor is useful and reasonable.

  • The tool wear that is developed by long-term machining in mold manufacturing with machining center makes a severe influence to the accuracy and the surface roughness. In this reason, tool-wear supervising system which has guaranteed high accuracy and high speed is needed to improve the measurement quality. Touching probe and touch sensor are widely used to measure the tool profile at on-machine measurement. In this paper, using the newly developed electric touch point measuring system, the Automatic Tool Compensation System is developed to correct the error of tool diameter resulted from the wear, and the operating method of this system is also provided.

  • Tool wear is one of major causes occurring defectives in NC machining. In this paper we developed an automatic tool compensation system for the NC lathe machining. The system compensates machining error without any help of operators whenever the specification of a part is out of a tolerance. The configuration of the automatic compensation system consists of a NC lathe, an autoloader, a sensor, and a PLC. The system is operated as follows. A workpiece loaded by the autoloader is machining on the NC lathe. Once the workpiece is machined to be turned to a part, it is moved onto the sensor to be measured. If the sensor detects a part out of tolerance, a tool compensation is made in the NC controller. The system gives a help in increasing the productivity by reducing occurrence of defective parts as well as by eliminating time for the tool compensation. Besides the productivity increase, the system calculates cumulative usage time of the tool and notices the tool replace time to a worker by an alarm signal. A case is introduced to show that the system can be applied effectively in a shop.

마모공정에 대한 정량 보정계획 (A Fixed Amount Compensation Plan for a Tool Wear Process)

  • A fixed amount compensator is proposed for a process with a linear tool wear function. A Cost model is constructed which involve process adjustment cost and quality loss. Symmetric and asymmetric quadratic functions of the deviation of a quality measurement from the nominal target value are considered as the quality loss functions. Methods of finding optimal values of initial setting and compensation limit are presented and a numerical example is given.

  • Electric discharging machining (EDM) is commonly adopted to machine the precise and tiny part when it is difficult to meet the productivity and the tolerance by the conventional cutting method. The die-sinking EDM method works well to machine the micro-parts and the perpendicular wall of die and mould, whereas EDM drilling, called super drill, is excellent to machine the deep and narrow hole regardless the material hardness and the hole location. However, the electrode wear is rapid compared to the conventional cutting tool and makes it difficult to control the electrode feeding and to machine precisely. This paper presents an efficient method to estimate the electrode wear using hole pass-through experiment while the stochastic method is used to compensate for the estimation model. To validate the proposed method, the commercial EDM drill machine is used. The experiment result shows that the electrode wear amount can be predicted very precisely.

전기기계식 제동장치의 제동패드 마모보상방법 및 성능평가 (A Brake Pad Wear Compensation Method and Performance Evaluation for ElectroMechanical Brake)

  • 본 논문은 전기기계식제동장치(EMB : Electro Mechanical Brake, 이하 EMB)의 제동패드 마모발생에 따른 소프트웨어 기반의 마모보상방법의 적용 및 성능평가를 다루었다. EMB의 구동을 위해 사용된 모터는 3상 매입형 영구자석 동기전동기(IPMSM : Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, 이하 IPMSM)가 사용되었다. EMB의 압부력(clamping force) 제어를 위해 위치제어기, 속도제어기 및 전류제어기가 적용되었으며, IPMSM의 출력 압부력 예측을 위해 모터의 거리별 압부력 실험을 통하여 힘 추정기(force estimator)를 1차 모델식으로 단순화 하였다. 제동패드에서 마모가 발생함에 따라 IPMSM에서 출력되는 토크전류의 크기가 감소하는 특성을 이용하여 기준 토크전류와의 비교를 통해 힘 추정기를 업데이트하는 방법으로 마모보상이 가능함을 보였다. 제동패드의 마모 후 최대 압부력 도달시간이 0.1초 이내로 증가하였으나, 마모패드 장착시에도 제동압부력은 마모 전 제동패드와 동일한 최대 기준 압부력을 만족하였으며, 최대압부력 도달시간의 경우 0.5초(기준값) 이내임을 실험으로 검증하였다. 소프트웨어 기반의 EMB 제동패드의 마모보상 방법은 철도차량의 출발 전 제동장치 점검시 테스트모드의 진입을 통하여 수행이 가능하다.

  • In general, manufacturing error is originated from bad material, machine tool defection and tool breakage. When the manufacturing process is stable, the most of error come from the tool wear. In common on-machine measurement teaching probe and touch sensor are widely used however in this paper the electric touch point type automatic tool compensation system is developed the performance of it is validated and effective operating is proposed.
