The World-Wide-Web have many advantages as a front-end of database systems. Hence in Internet applications, such as E-Commerce systems, the requirements for Web-based database applications have been increasing. In this work we propose a framework for java-based Web database applications-JaWAF(Java-based Web Application Framework). JaWAF has the 3-tier architecture of Client/Server, and consists of database gateway, application server, and communication and message component. When this framework is applied to the database applications developments, it can provide advantages, such as ease understanding and fast implementations of the Web applications. Thus we can build 3-tier Web-based database application systems with high scalability and distributed processing capability. Database gateway in JaWAF works as a daemon process that connects to the database systems and waits for requests from clients, and supports state-oriented service between clients and database servers. Hence the performance of Web applications could be increasing.

Web applications typically interact with databases. Therefore, it is very crucial to understand which web components access which database resources when maintaining web apps. Existing research identifies interactions between Java web components, such as JavaServer Pages and servlets but does not extract dependencies between the web components and database resources, such as tables and attributes. This paper proposes a dynamic analysis of Java web apps, which extracts such dependencies from a Java web app and represents them as a graph. The key responsibility of our analysis method is to identify when web components access database resources. To fulfill this responsibility, our method dynamically observes the database-related objects provided in the Java standard library using the proxy pattern, which can be applied to control access to a desired object. This study also experiments with open source web apps to verify the feasibility of the proposed method.

The purpose of this study is to introduce the web database for healthy city Wonju that contains healthy city indicators and materials. It has provided diverse information to public officers who are working on healthy city projects and citizens for monitoring and evaluating the projects, effectively. The web database was made on 2006 and was updated on 2009. The new Web database system was designed for supporting that the staffs of healthy city can manage all data update by themselves. The new Web database encompasses more recent information about health city projects. After identifying users' needs and reasons for modifying the fields of data, we added new indicators to the Web database. Some redundant indicators were deleted based on users' requests. The Web database quality evaluations were performed by using 13 quality evaluations constructs. Through all 13 constructs, less than 20% of study subjects felt that it did not satisfy their needs or expectations. Well developed and verified contents of the Web database for healthy city are very essential and important. The database makes healthy city projects alive by managing and sharing healthy city related data and indicators effectively.

The purpose of this study is to analyze systematically the characteristics and types of contemporary houses and to offer information concerning houses based on web database. This study deals with single-unit Korean houses designed by modern architects, which appeared in architectural periodicals and books published since 1990. This study sets three analysis criteria : general characteristics, morphological characteristics and functional characteristics of houses. Also, the web database including analysis contents is constructed to attain various information of the houses and results. The process of constructing the web database and the search method for house information retrieval are described. It is concluded that contemporary houses show various aspects of their plans in certain specific types. By using web database we obtained various analysis on house plan. This study investigated practicality of web database in architecture, interior design and house studies, and the types of contemporary house plans are revealed as well.

Since web has been used as the front-end of database, many web database connectivity tools have been developed and being developed now. For web developers and educators, it has been a difficult problem to select one tool out of so many alternatives. This paper compares web database connectivity tools available on PC Windows environment in the viewpoint of developers and educators. This comparative analysis focuses on the functions and programming techniques provided by these tools through implementing a simple case study using these software solutions. The performance analysis of these tools was not done in this reason.

To determine factors affecting scholarly web database service quality, this research is to investigate factors of web academic information service quality, and analyze how these factors influencing on web academic information service quality satisfactions. As a results, three dimensions were identified namely, information retrieval, ease of use and interaction. The scholarly web database service management has more critical problems than information service in these days. It indicates that the qualitative aspect is becoming more important than quantitative in web academic information service management.

In this paper, we present the development of a system(WebPierrot) that helps end-users to generate home pages with the construction of their corresponding web databases without the web programming technique. It consists of a page editor. a database wizard and a database manager. The page editor creates and modifies multimedia home pages. The database wizard generates databases operated with home pages automatically, and the database manager maintains the database related to the home pages. The page editor has been made based on the DHTML(Dynamic Hypertext Markup Language) and lets users generate multimedia home pages interactively. The database manager creates, updates and manages web databases. The system has the advantage which end-users can create multimedia home pages containing databases without requiring web database programming.

The purpose of this study is to show a case integration of web programming with database using Visual InterDev as a conceptual client and Web Server as server, Through this case study, we can see how easily dynamic web database programming used in Internet and Interanet can be developed in one integrated design environment such as Visual InterDev eliminating the inconvenience of developing database file and web page separately. Some literature survey and experimental practices were done to provide future developers with the principles and methodologies of developing web database programing using Visual InterDev with much less coding efforts and more convenient and easy way compared to other web developing tools.

Nowadays, we can easily access a remote database as well as a local database with HTML forms. Although implementing a database application with HTML forms is much simpler than implementing it with a proprietary graphical user Interface system, HTML forms and CGI programs still must be coded. We implemented a software tool that automatically generates the SQL statements that create a database for an application, the forms that are used as a user interface, and the Java servlets that retrieve the data requested through the forms. The database tables to be treated and the forms to be generated are determined by the class diagram for the application. Our software tool, which we call WebSiteGen, thus simplifies the implementation of a Web-based database application.

We believe in terins of information service systems that one of the best ways to develop a large scale database service system is to integrate the service capability of the Web and the dta management facility of database management systems in a complementary fashion. In such integation a database gateway in the core component, the web-database gateway accesses database management systems to serve the requests represented by using the Web technology. We designd BADA/Web be independent from the Web and DBMS and much as possible, which minrrizes the performance overhead caused by connecting database management systems and makes BADA/Web portable. BADA/Web incorporates TCL into a ibrary of it and handles concurrent requests efficiently. In this paper we describe our desingn and implementation experience in integrating the Web and BADA-III We evaluate the performance of BADA/Web by measuring and companing the latency and average response time for a simple query and also explore the effects of BADA/Web with some synthetie queries .
