A Study on the Effects of Filling and Packing Phases on Injection Molding Process (충전과 보압과정이 사출성형공정에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • Injection molding process factors such as molding temperature, injection pressure, flow rate and flow velocity, must be controlled properly in filling and packing phases in the injection molding process. In this study, effects of these factors on the injection molding were investigated through the flow analysis for the filling and packing phases. Molding troubles like flow mark weld line, sink ma가 short shot and warpage car be caused by these injection molding process factors. Among them the short shot was caused by the fact that the packing pressure could not reach properly to the filling end part in the packing phase and hence the flow rate could not be supplied to the full. In addition as the flow rate for the volumetric shrinkage during the f개zen phase could not be supplied Properly by the packing pressure, the short shot appeared. Here, the volumetric shrinkage reduced with increasing the packing pressure and also the warpage of molded part increased with increasing the packing Pressure.

  • Wrinkles and shape distortions are generated during the forming of B-pillar(or center pillar) which is a component of the automobile side-frame. The stretch flanging modes at the joining part of the B-pillar and the roof-rail or the side-still give rise to forming problems when taior-welded blanks are applied to the side-frames. The authors simplified B-pillar lower part to T shaped section to investigate the forming behaviors. Three of die step locations and two of blank types were tested to show the effects of weld line locations and edge conditions on he forming of tailor welded blanks. The heights of body wrinkles and the strain distribution in the stretch flanged area were measured and compared.

Door module PNL was the subject of research. The door module PNL is expected to cause warpage before the mold production due to the thin and flat product characteristics and fiber orientation characteristic of the material. In this paper, CAE analysis and reverse correction tool Design. CAE analysis to obtain the results of weld line position, bending position and deformation value Through the correction tool, think3, the original product was modified before the mold production to improve the completeness of the parts. In fiber orientation, the position and size of the cooling channel in the mold, the position and size of the gate, Temperature, pressure, time, and work environment. Compared with the result of CAE analysis, the product that was reverse-corrected by Think3 was manufactured, and injection molding was performed. Injection molding products were tested 24 hours later. 3.5 mm to 7.0 mm, and under the fixed condition, the deviation was from 1.1 mm to 1.5 mm.   • In this paper, paint-free metallic plastic material, polypropylene (PP) and acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (ASA) materials were investigated on the applications for bumper skid plate and outside mirror housing parts. In order to maximize metallic effect, type, size and content of aluminum pigment were optimized based on flop index. Hybrid aluminum pigments with different aspect ratios were used to conceal weld lines. By controlling the fluidity of the material, the flow mark problem, generated on the surface of the part, was resolved. We also investigated the surface defects of flow and weld lines by using the developed modeling and simulation.

  • This study was carried out to analyze the dynamic characteristics of laser tailor-welded blanks (TWBs) made of dissimilar materials. The analysis was performed using Hyper Works 10.0 with Solver LS-DYNA v.971. 2D-Shell was used as the modeling element, and the number of elements and nodes was 35,641 and 36,561, respectively. The impact speed was 10 km/h. To analyze the impact characteristics according to the height of the weld line for the upper and lower parts of the center pillar, the length of the lower part was set as 300 and 400 mm. When the lower part was made of SPFC980 steel with a length of 300 mm, the deformation was the smallest and the absorbed energy of the impact force was the largest. On based the lower part of center pillar, the position of TWB shows the shorter and the better value. In other words, the performance depended on the proportion of the upper part made of high-strength SABC1470 steel. A lower part made of SPFH590 steel showed large deformation. In contrast, a lower part made of SPFC980 steel showed significantly lesser deformation. Therefore, the impact performance of a lower part made of SPFC980 steel with a length of 300 mm showed the best analysis result.

A Study on Improvement of Surface Qualify in Injection Molded Parts (사출금형제품의 표면향상에 관한 연구)

  • Injection molded plastic parts have many surface defects. These include a weld line, sink mark, flow mark, gloss, shading, scratching etc. Because these surface faults are not aesthetically acceptable, plastic parts are produced through painting or texturing. The purpose of this paper is to develop paintless molded parts using a flow control method. Computer aided injection mold filling simulations were used in order to minimize the number of defects from injection molding. Based on the numerical results, FR(Flame Retardant) HIPS was developed and the guidelines for part design, mold design, and the processing conditions were established. The effects of cost savings, improvements in productivity, and recycling were considered by reducing the number of surface faults and eliminating the painting process.

  • Molding properties of etched surface pattern are presented. Specimens, whose surface patterns are made by print-type etching, are investigated. The molding properties of surface pattern are estimated with roughness deviation of surface pattern on part and mold. The etching properties are related to physical properties of plastic materials and surface roughness of etched pattern. Also, flow mark and gate location can give influence on surface pattern molding. The experimental result can contribute to good molding of surface pattern in injection molding.

  • In case of thin-wall two-color injection molding, flashing often occurs when molten polymer flows into small gap at the parting line in mold with high pressure or under the unbalanced clamping force condition. In this study, flashing was examined in the production of thin-wall notebook case with large area when the rapid heat cycle molding (RHCM) technology was applied to the two-color injection molding. The effects of the RHCM technology on the part properties and weld-lines were compared with conventional injection molding. The flashing caused by the clamping device of the two-color injection molding machine was examined and compared by experiments and CAE analyses.

  • In this research, the robustness of a seam tracking for the automatic welding system is studied. The laser displacement sensor is used as a seam finder. X-Y moving table drived by ac servo motor controls the position and velocity of the torch-and-sensor part. However, dc servo motor is used to control the position and velocity of the torch. The sensor locates ahead of torch to preview the weld line, and brings about the inaccuracy on the torch tracking. To enhance the robustness on this system against the influence of disturbances and model uncertainty, H$\_$.inf./ control is applied to the angular motion of torch. The simulation shows that the tracking accuracy improved significantly. Also, experimental results give a good performance of H$\_$.inf./ control strategy to the automatic seam tracking system for the welding.

  • Gas-assisted injection molding is an innovative low-pressure injection molding technique that can provide numerous benefits such as reduced part warpage, excellent surface quality without sink marks, low injection pressure, and greater design flexibility. However, the adoption of gas-assisted injection molding may cause unexpected defects if the gas channel design is not conducted properly. The objective of this paper is to broaden the understanding of gas-assisted injection molding by summarizing the design procedures and experimental results of the gas-assisted injection molding of a 17" flat monitor front cover. The gas channels were designed by using Moldflow(MF/GAS) simulations and a 450 ton injection molding machine with a 5 stage pressure control gas kit was used in the experiments.
