An Evaluation of the Weldability Characteristics on the 4 Lap Spot Welded Joint of Structural Steel Sheets in Automobile (자동차용 강판의 4겹 다층 점용접물의 용접특성 평가)

  • This research is conducted to investigate weldability characteristics with various welding conditions on the 4 lap spot welded joint of structural steel sheets in automobile. The relationship between the tensile-shear strength and the indentation depth has been investigated to evaluate the weldability and the optimum welding conditions. The welding current and the welding time have a greatly affect to the tensile-shear strength compared to the electrode force. It was found that the indentation depth has a relatively close relationship with the expulsion occurrence. The optimum welding conditions were proposed for the 4 lap spot welded joint.

  • An extensive corrosion study was initiated by galvalume steel sheet manufacturing company to clarify the corrosion behavior of zinc and zinc and zinc-alloy coated automotive sheet steel in out panel and electrical application. Since the early 1980's the use of zinc and aluminum alloy coated steel for vehicular corrosion protection has increased drastically. This paper describes the evaluation of formability, weldability and painted corrosion performance of galvalume steel sheet. This paper presents an overview of the program and some initial test results on the weldability, lifetime of the electrode tip shape of the spot welding and corrosion protection. Galvalume steel sheet improved corrosion performance and spot weldability of galvalume steel has no problem for the variation of welding current. And tip lifetime was changed according to the influence of shape.

  • The problem of autobody corrosion has been addressed over the past decade by the increasing use of zinc and zinc alloy costed steels in automotive application. this paper describes the evaluation of formability, weldability and painted corrosion performance of galvalume steel sheet. This paper presents an overview of the program and some initial test results on the weldability, lifetime of the electrode tip shpae of the spot welding and corrosion protection.   • This paper describes the weldability and mechanical behavior of JIS S45C medium carbon steel (corresponding to KS SM45C and SAE 1045) for machine structures in CW Nd:YAG laser welding. ill general, medium carbon steels have a limited application to the industrial fields in spite of good mechanical characteristics. This is due to welding difficulty because of the high carbon contents and impurities in this material. Therefore, in this study the laser weldability of medium carbon steel with adjusted contents of S and P has been investigated in order to extend the application to medium carbon steels. Several experiments and numerical simulations have been conducted to determine the characteristics of mechanical behavior in CW Nd:YAG laser welds. The results of the simulations concur with the experiment results. From the result of this study, the application possibility of CW Nd:YAG laser welding to medium carbon steel has been confirmed. Also, the appropriateness of mechanical behavior simulation has been verified to analyze and predict the welding phenomena.

  • Spot-welding is a widely used manufacturing method for thin-sheet components, especially in mass-production industries such as the car industry. Automobiles are often constructed by multi-lap spot welding to secure the passenger from the accident, where optimisation of the welding conditions is a major economic consideration. This research is conducted to investigate weldability characteristics with various welding conditions on the 4-lap spot welded joint of structural steel sheets in automobile. The relationship between the tensile-shear strength and the indentation depth has been investigated to propose the optimum welding conditions. The welding current and the welding time have a greater effect on the welding characteristics than the electrode force. It was found that the electrode force has a relatively close relationship with the expulsion occurrence. The design curves for optimum welding are proposed for the 4-lap spot welded joint.

  • In order to develop ASTM A302 grade C type steel plate with excellent weldability, several steels with different chemistry have been manufactured and evaluated their mechanical properties and weldability. Trial A302-C steels have revealed tensile strength in the range of $61-67kg/mm^2$ and elongation in the range of $27{\sim}32%$, depending on chemical compositions within the ASTM specification range. In case of impact toughness, trial steels showed in the range of 58-70J at $0^{\circ}C$. From the weldability test, the minimum preheat temperature was found to be about $150^{\circ}C$, and automatic welding condition satisfied the requirements of both ASTM specification and users.

  • The welding characteristics of polyethylene pipe for gas varying temperature and pressure is analyzed in this study. The analysis is very important to studying the weldability of PE pipe as well as is useful for its welding data. The specimens have the same welding conditions. Experimental data of the bead width, height and thickness for PE welding are measured with tool projector, Experimental results for PE welding Indicated that temperature more than pressure have influence on the weldability. It was confirmed that optimal PE welding within the limits of $210^{\circ}C$ and 15kg/$cm^2$ have high welding performance in comparison with other conditions. These results are very important to improve the safety and to reliable welding components of PE gas pipe.
