A Study on Construction of the Union Cataloging by WIKI Cataloging Philosophy (WIKI cataloging 정신을 통한 공동목록 완성에 관한 연구)

  • This study propose the union cataloging based on wiki cataloging method which guarantee the quality of imported bibliographic data by outsourcing. Wiki cataloging means to improves a quality of union catalog used the cooperation of librarians who have the knowledge and experience to the cataloging. The methods are 1) policy of wiki cataloging 2) development of wiki systems 3) establishment of wiki cataloging rule based on advanced librarian cooperation. Especially, advanced librarian take charge of an 245, 260, 300 fields as basic bibliographical elements, general librarians participate expanded fields.

  • With the emergence of Semantic Web and Web 2.0, the paradigm shift of the Web is on resource-centered services. That is, the focus now moves from having just rich resources to the meta-information of describing the resources. The relevant standards, RDF(Resource Description Language) and Topic Maps, of describing the meta-information are defined and adopted by W3C and ISO respectively. Describing meta-information in such a XML form could be burdensome to participants. Semantic Wiki extended from 1)WikiWikiWeb is proposed to deal with the problem. It enables users to generate RDF meta-information about Wiki pages with simple usages of the grammar. We discuss the way of improving interoperability between Topic Maps-based semantic Wiki papges and RDF-based ones. The method proposed by RDFTM task force is present with the usage of high-level Wiki grammar for facilitating low-level transformation.

Examination of Implicit Interactivity in Wiki-based Learning in University

  • The arrival of the Web 2.0 age, which is characterized by such key words as participation, sharing and openness, provides a learning environment in which both instructors and students can experience interactivity. In the educational area, we are particularly witnessing a growing interest in the social software like Wiki as one of the communication tools that reflects the characteristics of Web 2.0 and focuses on the interactivity with others. Based on this background, this study aims to examine into the meanings of interactivity inherent in the Wiki-based learning by studying such cases where Wiki is being used as a learning tool. For the purpose of our study, we practiced the Wiki-based learning method on the study subjects of the 17 junior students from U- University and 18 junior students from K- University during their 2009 fall semester teacher training courses. Through a comprehensive analysis of the questionnaires, interviews, Interactivity Measurement Diagram, examinations on the Wiki uses, Daily Self-reflection Records, and any other materials collected throughout the program, we could garner the following results: First, most of the students acknowledged that the use of Wiki was a useful communication means and helped promote their interactivity during their learning activities. Second, the interactivity of the Wiki-based learning was found to be more dynamic in the team-based projects or the community-based Wiki uses than in the instructor-oriented cases. Third, the Wiki-based learning is judged effective in expanding the scope of thinking and improving the learning capabilities through the collaborative knowledge-building process. The educational employment of the social software like Wiki in this web 2.0 age has great potentials for the true establishment of the learner-oriented learning environment, which has long remained at a standstill.

  • The advent of Web2.0 has believed to be the solution against many barriers in information sharing, especially wiki. Information sharing and collaboration are realized voluntarily and unselfishly with wiki. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the benefits and challenges of using wiki as a project management method in an IT/IS project. Wiki-based project management could provide project managers and members with expert knowledge collaboration for better project results. In the research model, we used TMS(Transactive Memory System) theory to define the relation of collaboration and performance of project members. Based on a survey among project members, the interactions between wiki characteristics and performance are examined in an IS project environment. Using Smart PLS 2.0, the data was analyzed to define the interactions by the structural equation modeling. From the empirical data, the mediated effect of expert knowledge collaboration is supported. We also derive the implications of wiki-based method. It is expected to bring new possibilities of Project management performance.

Factors affecting participation and achievement in wiki-based online learning (위키 기반 협력학습에서 자기효능감과 위키에 대한 불안이 참여도 및 성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • Wiki is an online-based collaborative tool, and has been frequently used more recently as it realizes the paradigm of web 2.0 in educational context. Especially, wiki promotes collaborative knowledge building which is the major interest of this study. The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationships among academic self-efficacy, self-efficacy for group work, wiki anxiety, participation in wiki activity, and learning achievement. Fifty nine college students participated in the wiki activity, and the data from fifty three were used for the multiple regression and path analysis. The results reported that academic self-efficacy and wiki anxiety affected participation in wiki activity, and these two variables also had indirect effects on learning achievement, mediated by participation.

  • The Web which supplied static information by web page administrator takes big change, recently, since the web service of new concept called 'WikiWiki' appeared. Wiki system can have gotten very active participation of users because everybody who inspect web page can exchange and add page freely. This paper shows that Wiki engine system implemented by XML and XSLT etc., and explains how to manage the history of document change.

An Online Terminology Dictionary of Traditional Korean Medicine (온라인 한의학 용어 사전 시스템 구축)

  • Objectives : Our study aims to provide a collaborative Internet terminology dictionary like Wikipedia, where about 30,000 concept terminologies with respect to traditional Korean medicine (TKM) are shared and TKM experts can edit the terminologies. Methods : The concept terminologies have been collected and refined for three years by the terminology management system, a custom-made software built upon the Oracle database, where each terminology is divided and normalized into one or more tables. The operation of Wikipedia depends on MediaWiki, a free and open source wiki software built upon the MySQL database. The database schema of our terminology management system is different from that of MediaWiki so that MediaWiki cannot used as our terminology dictionary. Thus, we propose a way to share and edit TKM terminologies with wiki-like user interface. Results : We devise a new terminology dictionary system to search and edit terminology upon the database of the terminology management system. The online terminology dictionary of TKM has the user interface and functions which is similar to Wikipedia to support collaborative works. Conclusions : Wikipedia is operated on MediaWiki which is can be downloaded and used freely under the GNU General Public License. However, there occur problems to use MediaWiki upon the legacy system. Thus, other wiki projects start, they should be considered.

A Semantic Web-enabled Woo System for Ontology Construction and Sharing (온톨로지 생성과 공유를 위한 시맨틱 웹 기반 위키 시스템)

  • The Semantic Web has the objective of developing universal media in which machine-processable semantic information can be represented and shared, and it is therefore important to distribute ontologies that represent this kind of semantic information to the Web and make them available to multiple parties. However, the current ontology authoring tools are not operating on the Web, which makes it difficult to distribute ontologies directly to the Web and to create and edit them collaboratively with other people. This paper proposes a framework that facilitates the ontology construction and sharing, realizing easy distribution of ontologies to the Web. Wiki is one of the frameworks for collaborative construction and sharing of knowledge on the Web, and Wiki contents consist of natural language texts and simple markup language for visualization. For better collaboration in creating and sharing ontologies, this paper suggests the Semantic Wiki that embodies the Semantic Web features to the existing Wiki system. The Semantic Wiki framework facilitates the collaboration in ontology co-authoring and sharing for people, and at the same time, makes it possible for the agent software to easily manage the ontology information. Eventually, the Semantic Wiki system accomplishes various tasks including the semantic view, the semantic navigation, and the semantic query.

  • The Internet has brought us a new paradigm called WEB 2.0 which inherently represents the openness, participation, sharing, and cooperation. The WEB 2.0 has rendered people to actively participate in the creation of information and to dynamically interact with others to build mutual knowledge-bases, introducing a whole new web environment. One of the most representative techniques demonstrating the value of the WEB 2.0 is the WIKI which is essentially based on the 'Collective Intelligence' and the 'Wisdom of Crowds'. So far, the WIKI has drawn lots of attention for its potential as an educational tool. In this research, we explored the educational potential of the WIKI by investigating various programs and web-based tools offering WIKI services, and then, analyzing the usage model and characteristics of its users. Based on the analysis, we developed a WIKI-based instructional model and also proposed concrete lesson plans adopting this model. Besides, we introduced preliminary methodologies on the active use of the WIKI in the Edunet and the Cyber Home Learning System as well.

An Automatic Construction of ISA relations of Wordnet Using Wiki Definitions (Wiki정의로부터 ISA를 추출할 수 있는 언어적 규칙)

  • The paper aims at showing the subsumption relations of the Wordnet can be captured automatically from a dynamic encyclopedia such as Wikipedia with a meaningful precision. The idea behind the proposal is that a knowledge base in the form of Wordnet can be dynamically obtained and maintained accordingly to the online dictionaries so that the scalability of knowledge base construction may be achieved to some degree. To show the plausibility of dynamic ISA construction, we have tested how well the ISA relations among the 100 technology terms selected from the Wordnet can be saved from the ISA construction by the wiki definitions of the selected terms. As a result the wiki definition led to the ISA relations of the Wordnet with the precision of 80%.
