Average Current Controlled X-Y Channel Driving White LED Backlight System for 46" LCD TV

  • A novel white-LED (light emitting diode) backlight system for 46"LCD TVs which involves the average current controlled X-Y channel driving method is proposed, which is composed of 1 converter and row and column channel switches. In the conventional X-Y channel driving driven with a constant voltage source, the driving current of LED increases because the threshold voltage of LED decreases when LED temperature goes up. To maintain the luminance of backlight constant, the average current controlled X-Y channel driving will be employed. Finally the results are confirmed by experimental results.

  • A novel white-LED (light emitting diode) backlight system for 46"LCD TVs which involves the current controlled X-Y channel driving method is proposed in this paper. There are two problems related to the LED current in the conventional X-Y channel driving driven by a constant voltage source. To solve these problems, a real time current sensing system is applied to the conventional one and the time-division current sensing method is employed.

  • This paper proposes a novel RGB-LED (light emitting diode) backlight system, for 32" LCD TVs, accompanied by a new X-Y Channel driving method in which its row and column switches control the individual division screen. This proposed driving method is able to produce division driving effects such as image improvement and reduced power consumption. Not only that, the number of driver needed in this method, that is 3 power supplies with 3*(m+n) switches, is much fewer than that of cluster driving method, that is 3*(m*n) driver.

  • A novel driving theory on the electrohydrodynamic (EHD) pump driven by traveling electric fields without the temperature gradient is proposed. The equations of the generating pressure and the flow rate are derived. The EHD micropump is fabricated by micromachining technology and tested. The channel heights are 50$\mu\textrm{m}$, 100$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 200$\mu\textrm{m}$ are respectively an the channel width is 3 mm. The spacing and width of the electrodes are both 40$\mu\textrm{m}$. The maximum pressure is 70.3 Pa, 35.4 Pa and 17.2 pa at he frequency of 0.2Hz for each channel height (50$\mu\textrm{m}$, 100$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 200$\mu\textrm{m}$) and the maximum flow rate is 0.90x10\ulcorner ${\mu}$$\ell$/min, 1.88x10\ulcorner ${\mu}$$\ell$/min and 4.85x10\ulcorner ${\mu}$$\ell$/min at the frequency of 0.4H for each channel height.

  • Today, cars have developed into intelligent automobiles that combine advanced control equipment and IT technology to provide driving assistance and convenience to users. These vehicles provide infotainment services to the driver, but this does not improve the safety of the driver. Accordingly, V2X communication, which forms a network between a vehicle and a vehicle, between a vehicle and an infrastructure, or between a vehicle and a human, is drawing attention. Therefore, various techniques for improving channel estimation performance without changing the IEEE 802.11p standard have been proposed, but they do not satisfy the packet error rate (PER) performance required by the C-ITS service. In this paper, we analyze existing channel estimation techniques and propose a new channel estimation scheme that achieves better performance than existing techniques. It does this by applying the updated matrix for the data pilot symbol to the construct data pilot (CDP) channel estimation scheme and by further performing the interpolation process in the frequency domain. Finally, through simulations based on the IEEE 802.11p standard, we confirmed the performance of the existing channel estimation schemes and the proposed channel estimation scheme by coded PER.

Strained-SiGe Complementary MOSFETs Adopting Different Thicknesses of Silicon Cap Layers for Low Power and High Performance Applications

  • We introduce a strained-SiGe technology adopting different thicknesses of Si cap layers towards low power and high performance CMOS applications. By simply adopting 3 and 7 nm thick Si-cap layers in n-channel and p-channel MOSFETs, respectively, the transconductances and driving currents of both devices were enhanced by 7 to 37% and 6 to 72%. These improvements seemed responsible for the formation of a lightly doped retrograde high-electron-mobility Si surface channel in nMOSFETs and a compressively strained high-hole-mobility $Si_{0.8}Ge_{0.2}$ buried channel in pMOSFETs. In addition, the nMOSFET exhibited greatly reduced subthreshold swing values (that is, reduced standby power consumption), and the pMOSFET revealed greatly suppressed 1/f noise and gate-leakage levels. Unlike the conventional strained-Si CMOS employing a relatively thick (typically > 2 ${\mu}m$) $Si_xGe_{1-x}$ relaxed buffer layer, the strained-SiGe CMOS with a very thin (20 nm) $Si_{0.8}Ge_{0.2}$ layer in this study showed a negligible self-heating problem. Consequently, the proposed strained-SiGe CMOS design structure should be a good candidate for low power and high performance digital/analog applications.

Improvement of Carrier Mobility on Silicon-Germanium on Insulator MOSFET Devices with a Strained-Si Layer

  • The effects of heat treatment on the electrical properties of strained-Si/SiGe-on-insulator (SGOI) devices were examined. We proposed the optimized heat treatment processes for improving the back interfacial electrical properties in SGOI-MOSFET. By applying the additional pre-RTA (rapid thermal annealing) before gate oxidation step and the post-RTA after source/drain dopant activation step, the electrical properties of strained-Si channel on $Si_{1-x}Ge_x$ layer were greatly improved, which resulting the improvement of the driving current, transconductance, and leakage current of SGOI-MOSFET.

  • The bacterial flagellar motor is a molecular machine that couples proton or sodium influx to force generation, mostly for driving rotation of the helical flagellar filament. In this study, we cloned a gene (motX) encoding a component of the sodium-driven flagellar motor from Vibrio fluvialis. The nucleotide sequence of the motX gene, composed of 633 bp and 211 amino acid residues, was determined. Overexpression of the motX gene in Escherichia coli using a strong promoter induced growth inhibition and cell lysis. The lethal effect of E. coli was suppressed by adding amiloride, as a potent inhibitor for the sodium channel. Electron microscopic observation of the expressed protein indicated that MotX protein induced by isopropyl ${\beta}$-D-thiogalactopyranoside caused the lysis of host cell.

Development of the Multi Band Transceiver for Multi-Channel SAR (다채널 영상레이다를 위한 다중대역 송수신기 개발)

  • In this paper, we designed and fabricated the multi band Transceiver Assembly(TCA) for the Multi Channel Synthetic Aperture Radar(MCSAR) containing C-band, X-band, Ku-band and we researched to verify electrical performance of TCA. The transceiver consists of transmitters, receivers, signal selection modules for each band, and stability oscillator, frequency synthesizer, controller, power distributor. The transceiver has a receive path selection and bandwidth selection functions in accordance with the operating mode. And the transceiver can transmit and receive all three bands simultaneously, each band has a bandwidth of up to 300 MHz. Final transmission output of transceiver for each band is over 20 dBm to be suitable for driving the T/R module. Receiver bandwidth is selected according to the required function and receiver gain has approximately C-band 52 dB, X-band 50 dB, Ku-band 60 dB, the maximum noise figure of Ku-band V polarization is 4.28 dB in the whole band H, V polarization. As a result of the electrical performance test, a multi-band TCA is satisfied the property requirements of the MCSAR.
