  • Rubber friction properties include adhesion friction characteristics of the interface, hysteresis friction characteristics originating from repeated rubber deformations, and cohesion friction characteristics due to wear and tear. Cohesion friction is generally sufficiently small (< 3%) that it can be ignored, whereas adhesion friction has a relatively large contribution of 15%, but has not been investigated thoroughly. Therefore, through an adhesion friction study, the adhesion mechanism was examined and the relationship between friction characteristics and adhesion friction on dry surfaces was derived. The wet grip characteristics of tread rubber are fully described by the hysteresis characteristics of tires, but friction characteristics on dry roads are difficult to determine without adhesion factors. The results presented herein demonstrate that the combination of hysteresis and adhesion properties in the tread rubber sufficiently explained the characteristics of the dry grip. Based on the results of this study, technologies will be developed to determine the key factors governing adhesion friction characteristics and improve dry tire braking performance.

  • Adhesion of DLC film is very significant property that exhibits wear resistance, chemical inertness and high hardness when being deposited to metal substrate. This study was considered that change adhesion of DLC film produced by Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition can be presented through inserting interlayer (Cr, Si-C:H). The thickness of interlayer was result of changing adhesion and residual stress. It was showed that the maximum 12 N of adhesion is on DLC film of Cr interlayer, and that a tendency is to be increased residual stress depend on the thickness. DLC film of Si-C:H interlayer represented 16 N of adhesion at $1{\mu}m$, whereas adhesion is decreased when the thickness is increased. For the interlayer at multi-layer, it was the best that adhesion of Cr/Si-C:H/DLC film was 33 N. Si-C:H interlayer at DLC film controled adhesion of the whole film. It was relaxed the internal stress of DLC film produced by inserting Cr, Si-C:H interlayer.

  • Selecting a proper tile cement for ceramic tile is important to secure tile construction quality. But there is some ambiguity in standards about evaluating adhesion test such as using KS L 1593 in Lab test but using KS L 1592 in site. So, this study aims to how to select proper tile cement for securing adhesion strength in site considering both tensile and shear adhesion strength of cement for ceramic tile. Also, when doing tensile adhesion test in site, there may be adhesion drop because of cutting tile with grinder. As a result, drop of adhesion strength is about 9% ans quality manager consider these factor and should select proper tile cement.

  • The leukocyte adhesion to endothelium is pivotal in leukocyte recruitment which takes place during inflammatory, autoimmune and infectious conditions. The interaction between leukocytes and endothelium requires an array of adhesion molecules expressed on leukocytes and endothelial cells, thereby promoting leukocyte recruitment into sites of inflammation and tissue injury. Intervention with the adhesion molecules provides a platform for development of anti-inflammatory therapeutics. This review will focus on developmental endothelial locus-1 (Del-1), an endogenous inhibitor of leukocyte adhesion.

  • It is one of the most effective methods for improving the performance of electric railway vehicles to make better the wheel-railway adhesion characteristics. The purpose of this paper is to develop the equivalent reduction machine to experiment on the adhesion system. The experiment system makes it possible to change the wheel-rail adhesion force with various adhesion parameters, and therewith to test the adhesion control system with the reduction machine in a laboratory.

  • A study on adhesion property of evaporated Al-Cr films was conducted on steel sheet by using two-source evaporator. Adhesion of Al-Cr coated steel was evaluated by tape test after $180^{\circ}$bending. Adhesion was decreased with increasing the Cr content in Al-Cr films. It was thought that the decrease in adhesion with increasing Cr content be related to insufficient wetting and diffusion of Cr atoms in the film. Best adhesion was achieved in the case of pure aluminum film..

  • Adhesion strength of electroless-plated Ni, Ni-P and Cu deposites on alumina substrate has been studied. Grain boundary spaces produced on the substrate surface by etching treatment provided anchoring sites for enhancing the adhesion strength. Adhesion strengths of Ni-P and Ni deposit were higher than that of Cu deposit, because of higher initial nucleation rates than the latter. The electroless-plated Ni-P and Ni underlayer improved the adhesion strength of the Cu deposit. In could be attributed to the enhanced adhesion between the substrate and those underlayers as well as the satisfactory adhesion between Cu deposits and those underlayers. Heat treatment was also conducted in order to enhance the adhesion strength of Cu layer. The strength was enhanced by about 19% when the treatment was conducted at $150^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. The enhancement was attributed to relief of internal stress and release of hydrogen.

  • Various methods for adhesion measurement, which are related to previously published paper [J. of Soc. of Adhe. and Inter, 3,4 (2002)], are reviewed. At first, the prerequisite for the ideal adhesion strength measurement is considered, and three categories of methods for adhesion measurement, such as mechanical, non-mechanical methods and miscellaneous methods, are introduced.
