  • To indicate the statistical complexity of dynamical systems, we introduce the notions of higher order irregular set and higher order maximal Birkhoff average oscillation in this paper. We prove that, in the setting of topologically mixing Markov chain, the set consisting of those points having maximal k-order Birkhoff average oscillation for all positive integers k is as large as the whole space from the topological point of view. As applications, we discuss the corresponding results on a repeller.

  • In the synthesis of water-based polyurethane using self-emulsification process, after being neutralized, polyurethane pre-polymers containing ionic pendant groups are dispersed by simple convective mixing. Preparation of dispersion is followed by chain extension reaction, which is considered as important step for growth of the molecular weight of polyurethane. In this work, pH variations in the aqueous phase were monitored during the chain extension process in the presence of water-soluble diamines. The optimum degree of chain extension and the average particle size in the polyurethane dispersions were examined with varying ionic pendent group contents, type of chain extenders, and feed rate of chain extenders, The initial pH value in the aqueous phase linearly increased and the optimum chain extension point could be obtained from the intersection of two linear lines having different slopes, All average particle sizes before chain extension reaction were almost same, however, the final average particle size increased as feed rates of chain extenders increased, In addition, as the ionic pendant group contents increased, the particle size decreased since the hydrophilicity and hydrodynamic volume increased. As carbon numbers of the chain extenders increased, the final particle size increased significantly. From the results, it was concluded that the chain extension reaction took place among the particles not only in a particle.

  • Polycarbonate diol-based waterborne polyurethane (WPU) was prepared by prepolymer mixing process. The prepolymer mixture contained the polycarbonate diol, isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), dimethylol propionic acid, triethylamine, and ethylenediamine (EDA). The NCO/OH ratio in the prepolymer was adjusted by controlling the molar ratio of IPDI, and its effects on the properties of WPU were studied. The structure of WPU was characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The average particle size increased and viscosity decreased with increasing NCO/OH ratio and EDA content in WPU. The reduced phase separation between soft and hard segments increased glass transition temperature. The reduction in the thermal decomposition temperature could be attributed to the low bond energy of urethane and urea groups, which constituted the hard segment. Additionally, the polyurethane chain mobility was restricted, elongation decreased, and tensile strength increased. The hydrogen bond between the hard segments formed a dense structure that hindered water absorption.

  • The spherical silica powder was synthesized by varying the kinds of solvent and mixing energy in emulsion method. The stirring speed varied from 500 to 1000 r.p.m. at 5$0^{\circ}C$ for 2h. Toluene in benzyl groups and a series of alkanes were used as dispersant. The average size of spherical silica particles decreased with increasing the stirring speed and the chain length o solvents used in this work. The average size was controlled in the range of 134~28$\mu\textrm{m}$ by selecting a proper solvent and stirring speed. The optimum processing parameters were described in details.

  • Interrelationship between bacterial and phytoplankton variables and associations of this relationship with phytoplankton community structure were studied from July, 1990 to October, 1991 in the estuarine system of Mankyung and dongjin Rivers where estuarine mixing is very active. During the study period only bacterial production and chlorophyll were always significantly correlated (r$^2$>0.36, p<0.02), suggesting that phytoplankton-biomass related process seemed to be related to bacterial production in the estuarine waters. However, bacterial production comprised only a small fraction (on average<2.6) of primary production throughout the study period, suggesting that those parameters were uncoupled. this might be partly due that phytoplankton, food particles for zooplankton, food particles for zooplankton, were mostly composed of large and/or chain-forming diatoms.
