  • Recently, the spun blend yarns with staple fibers and filaments are being developed in the spinning process using an air blowing and electrostatic spinning technology(cyclone) in order to enhance the soft feeling and the fine count spun blend yarn manufacturing competitiveness. In this study, the appropriate separation condition of polyester multifilament was examined according to the treatment condition of conductive agents and voltage on polyester multifilament in the newly developed cyclone spinning process. And it was investigated the physical properties and dyeability of the cyclone wool/polyester spun blend yarns and its wool composite fabrics in comparison with existing sirofil wool/polyester spun blend yarn and its fabrics. As the result, it is determined that the newly developed cyclone wool/polyester spun blend yarn applied fabrics has a superior quality level in terms of practicality.

  • Nanofibrous membranes of poly(D,L-lactic acid)/chitin blend were prepared by electro spinning for a barrier of guided tissue regeneration. A miscible solution was obtained by the blending chitin-salt complex into 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone solution of poly(D,L-lactic acid). The properties of the blend were examined for nanofibrous fabrication. The viscosity of the blend solution was increased significantly due to chain entanglement despite the low ratio of chitin to poly(D,L-lactic acid). An interaction between two polymeric compositions was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction detected an appreciably ordered microstructure in the nanofiber of the blend. A membrane of thinner nanofibers was fabricated by electro spinning the chitin blend. The permeability of the membranes was examined using bioactive model compounds.

  • This study explores the feasibility of granite waste aggregate (GWA) as a partial replacement of natural fine aggregate (NFA) in binary blend self-compacting concrete (SCC) prepared with fly ash. Total of nine SCC mixtures were prepared wherein one was Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) based control SCC mixture and remaining were fly ash based binary blend SCC mixtures which included the various percentages of GWA. Fresh properties tests such as slump flow, T500, V-funnel, J-ring, L-box, U-box, segregation resistance, bleeding, fresh density, and loss of slump flow (with time) were conducted. Compressive strength and percentage of permeable voids were evaluated in the hardened state. All the SCC mixtures exhibited sufficient flowability, passing ability, and resistance to segregation. Besides, all the binary blend SCC mixtures exhibited lower fresh density and bleeding, and better residual slump (up to 50% of GWA) compared to the OPC based control SCC mixture. Binary blend SCC mixture incorporating up to 40% GWA provided higher compressive strength than binary blend control SCC mixture. The findings of this study encourage the utilization of GWA in the development of binary blend SCC mixtures with satisfactory workability characteristics as a replacement of NFA.

  • Since PVDF/poly(1,4-butylene adipate) blend shows much lower LCST curve compared with PVDF/PMMA blend, the PVDF/PBA blend can be a good candidate for investigating the effect of the electric field on the phase separation and dissolution behavior of an electro-active polymer and electro-inactive polymer blend. • 1.

  • Experiments about engine performance using alcohol-gasoline blend as a fuel are studied. A conventional 4cycle 4cylinder gasoline engine is used. Measurements on torque, output, specific fuel consumption, and emissions are made over ignition timing and mixing ratio. Up to vol. 15% of alcohol, torque and output using alcohol-gasoline blend are almost same with using only gasoline, and specific fuel consumption is improved about 7%. In emissions alcohol-gasoline blend is more effective than gasoline.

  • EPDM/silicone blend was prepared with polyorganosiloxane compatibilizer for out-door polymer insulation used to shed. Each blend had various weight ratios, 100/0, 90/10, 70/30, 50/50, 30/70, 10/90, and 0/100 as EPDM to silicone, and electrical and tracking characteristics were studied with the method of IEC 60587. And also, tracking properties and contact angle related to UV-weathering period were studied to understand the degree of degradation of blend after 1000 h UV-weathering.

  • For examining an effect of lithium bromide on structure and property of chitosan/fibroin blend, we investigated the structural characteristic of chitosan/fibroin blend films using solution with lithium bromide which was removed during a casting. The chitosan/fibroin blend formed a complex with the dissolved bromine/lithium ions. The crystalline phase of the complex was found in the blend film at LiBr concentration of 0.6 mol/L. The degree of crystallization was decreased with increasing the concentration of LiBr. The hydrated crystalline phase of chitosan was formed in the blend film that lithium bromide was removed in the process of casting by neutralization and osmotic action. The crystallinity of this film was increased largely as compared with that of the film without lithium bromide. The complexed blend film formed hydrogel absorbing plenty of water.

  • This study was made on the poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) and poly(vinyl acetate- ethylene) (VAE) emulsion polymer blend which used PVA as protective colloid, and the PVA used as protective colloid was existed in each emulsion film before blend and even in the film after the blend consecutively. It makes us expect excellent adhesive power among particles that form the blend. Emulsion blends with different Tg are important target of concerning, and PVAc/VAE emulsion blend suggested simple and excellent research method. As a result of blend, elongation was lowered by the increase of PVAc, and the plasticizer used in making PVAc affected on the Tg of blend and lowered Tg of VAE emulsion, and the synergy effect of two blends was seen for the tensile strength, thermal resistance, and adhesive strength.
