어머니의 양육 행동특성과 초등학생의 식습관에 관한 연구 (The Relationship between the Eating Habits of Elementary School Students and Parenting Behavior Characteristics)

  • The object of this study was to investigate the relationship between the eating habits of high(4th, 5th, 6th) grade elementary school students and parental behavior characteristics(affection, rational guidance, overprotect and neglect). The parenting behavior scale and demographic variables, eating habits and food frequency were administered to the subjects. In this investigation, the subjects were 396 boys and 337 girls in Chunju city in Korea, 50.1% of the mothers was in the age from 35 to 39 years and 57.8% of the mother had an occupation. Data were analyzed by using a SPSS PS package. Significant differences and correlation among variables were determined by the frequency, $x^2-test$ and pearson's correlation coefficient. Eating habits was significantly influenced by mother's employment status, but was not affected by the levels of mother's education and income. Parental behavior characteristics was significantly related to the children's snacks habits(p<0.05, p<0.01), but have no connection with dietary habits and the eating out. The survey revealed higher percentage of the children who had taken affectionate, reasonable and positively reinforced child care, answered they enjoy meals and the other groups answered they did not. Also frequency of having soup, green vegetables, fruits, dairy products had positive relationship with affective, reasonable rearing attitude, but negative relationship with neglective rearing attitude. And the survey showed children who were reared in overprotect had chocolate, candy and the like in large quantities.

  • Two dogs were presented with melena, vomiting and depression after accidental swallowing of candy form of Strepsils (flurbiprofen), which is one of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs used in human medicine for controlling a sore throat. These dogs had common signs of anemia induced by gastrointestinal ulceration and hemorrhage with azotemia and leukocytosis. The dogs were treated with blood transfusion, fluid therapy, proton-pump inhibitor, antiemetics, mucus protectant and antibiotic. Although most of clinical signs of two dogs were resolved, azotemic problem with evidence of renal injury have remained.

낯선 사람의 범죄유인 행동에 대한 유아의 인식 (Examining Early Childhood's Perception of Strange Adults' Luring Behaviors Facilitating Crime)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the response pattern of children of early childhood (ages 4 to 5) to strangers' luring behaviors that suggest imminent crime. Data were collected from registrants offered by four kindergartens and daycare centers. Individual interviews were performed (N = 100) by using a questionnaire. Results were as follows: First, children of early childhood responded unfavorably to strange adults' kindness and request for aids. However, it was found that they did not make the right decision in relation to strange adults' luring behaviors that lead to crime when family related clues were manipulated. Second, children of early childhood responded favorably to strange adults' luring behaviors that are suggestive of criminal intent when candy, ice cream, and toys were offered. Especially, youngsters were more prone to be deceived by these indices than the older children. Third, older children responded unfavorably to strange adults' luring behaviors that suggest a criminal intent In addition, youngsters did not respond cleverly to strange adults' luring behaviors that suggest a criminal intent while showing a reluctant response.

Thin-Layer Chromatography에 의한 시판 알사탕류의 착색료에 관한 고찰 (Study on the Detection of Artificial Dyes in the Commercial Drops by Use of Thin-Layer Chromatography)

  • A study was carried out to detect of illegal artificial dyes, and to confirm the used rate of illegal dyes in the production process of commercial drops (candy), from Dec. 10, 1972 to Feb. 10, 1973. In this study, it was used thin layer chromatography, the samples were divided into two groups, group A of inscribed trade name and group B of not inscribed trade name. To contrast with group A and group B, 100 samples were randomly collected in the market places, 50 samples from group A and 50 samples from group B. The following conclusions were obtained: 1) used rate of illegal dyes were 2% of group A and 9% of group B. 2) used rate of illegal dyes were 2% of red, 2% of yellow, 1% of violet and 6% of green, not in blue. 3) used rate of illegal dyes 3% of Rhodamine B, 3% of Auramine and 6% of Light green S.F. Yellowish. 4) Out of 20 cases those used mixed dyes, only one case was confirmed as two illegal dyes, and 4 cases were used one illegal dye.

Probiotic bifidobacteria의 건강 증진 작용과 산업적 이용 (Health Benefits of Probiotic Bifidobacteria and Their Industrial Application)

  • Bifidobacteria are normal inhabitants of the human gastrointestinal tract throughout lift, starting just days after birth, and are one of several predominant species of the colonic microflora, along with Peptostreptococcus, Eubacteria, Clostridia, and Bacteroides. Bifidobacteria differ from lactic acid bacteria in that they produce not only lactic acid but also acetic acid as major fermentation products. The classification of bifidobacteria has changed numerous times since they were discovered in 1899 in the feces of breast-fed infants. Since 1994, three additional species have been included in the list (B. lactis, B. inopinatum, and B. denticolens), with a current total of 32 species. A variety of probiotic effects of bifidobacteria are currently being investigated. Research reports suggests several potential probiotic advantages, in particular antimicrobial effects, immune-modulation reduction of the cancer risk, and modulation of gastrointestinal flora. As technological challenges related to viability and enumeration are being overcome, milks fermented with these anaerobic microorganisms(alone or in combination with lactic acid bacteria) are more able to provide consistently satisfying with large numbers of viable microorganisms. Over 70 products containing bifidobacteria are currently offered around the world, including fermented milks, cheese, buttermilk frozen desserts, candy, and pharmaceutical preparations.

전동 스크롤압축기의 운전rpm에 따른 냉동사이클의 성능에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Performance of Refrigeration Cycle for various RPM of Inverter Scroll Compressor)

  • An experimental study was performed estimating COP(Coefficient of Performance) of air-conditioning cycle with inverter scroll compressor. All experiments were done for various compressor speeds from 1000~4000 rpm and used the inverter controller called CANDy to change the compressor rpm. The air-conditioning cycle components in the apparatus were used as same with components of YF hybrid car. To estimate the COP, this study measured the temperature and pressure at inlets and outlets of compressor, condenser, and evaporator. And also measured the compressor input power using Powermeter. Through the experiments, the maximum error to estimate COP was shown about ${\pm}6.09%$ at 3500rpm. This study revealed that the condenser temperature and pressure were increased and the evaporator temperature and pressure were decreased with the increased compressor speed. And also, the COP was decreased with increased compressor speed. Those results can be used the basic and fundamental data to design the air-conditioning cycle with inverter scroll compressor.

Validation and measurement uncertainty of HPLC-UV method for quercetin quantification in various foods

  • The purpose of this study was to validate a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for the quantitative analysis of quercetin in various foods. The method was based on HPLC-UV (360 nm). The method was validated using candy, beverage, and sausage which were tested for specificity, linearity, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), precision, and accuracy, and the measurement uncertainty was assessed. Matrix-matched calibration was also applied. The calibration curves (0.5-50 mg/L) showed good linearity (r2≥0.9998). LOD and LOQ ranged from 0.15 to 0.31 mg/kg and from 0.44 to 0.93 mg/kg, respectively. The average accuracy and precision at 0.5, 2.5, and 10 mg/kg ranged from 84.3 to 102.0% and 0.7 to 3.0 relative standard deviation (RSD%), respectively. This study confirmed the applicability of the proposed method by applying it to commercial products, such as teas and beverages. Thus, the proposed analytical method is suitable for quantifying quercetin in various foods.

Xylitol stimulates saliva secretion via muscarinic receptor signaling pathway

  • Xylitol is well-known to have an anti-caries effect by inhibiting the replication of cariogenic bacteria. In addition, xylitol enhances saliva secretion. However, the precise molecular mechanism of xylitol on saliva secretion is yet to be elucidated. Thus, in this study, we aimed to investigate the stimulatory effect of xylitol on saliva secretion and to further evaluate the involvement of xylitol in muscarinic type 3 receptor (M3R) signaling. For determining these effects, we measured the saliva flow rate following xylitol treatment in healthy individuals and patients with dry mouth. We further tested the effects of xylitol on M3R signaling in human salivary gland (HSG) cells using real-time quantitative reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction, immunoblotting, and immunostaining. Xylitol candy significantly increased the salivary flow rate and intracellular calcium release in HSG cells via the M3R signaling pathway. In addition, the expressions of M3R and aquaporin 5 were induced by xylitol treatment. Lastly, we investigated the distribution of M3R and aquaporin 5 in HSG cells. Xylitol was found to activate M3R, thereby inducing increases in $Ca^{2+}$ concentration. Stimulation of the muscarinic receptor induced by xylitol activated the internalization of M3R and subsequent trafficking of aquaporin 5. Taken together, these findings suggest a molecular mechanism for secretory effects of xylitol on salivary epithelial cells.

Facebook Users in United Arab Emirates: Underlying the Factors and Demographic Analysis

  • This study examined the use of Facebook in United Arab Emirates. There were two objectives of this study. The first purpose was to identify the motive for the use of Facebook among people in U.A.E. This study conducted the survey using both qualitative and quantitative methods. One hundred eighty-three working people were used from the survey. Thirty-five questions identified from the interviews were used for the questionnaire design in quantitative method. Factor analysis showed six factors namely usefulness, usage, reliability, making new friends, ethical issue and openness of information. The total variance explained by all the factors was fifty-two percent. This study also examined the demographic variables whether they would play an important role in using the social network site. The study included two more variables, income and married status, which were not frequently examined by previous studies. MANOVA showed statistical significant differences (p < .01) across six factors. ANOVA results showed that gender variable affected only the factor of openness of information. Males were more likely to share their information compared to females. Income variable affected all the factors except the openness of information. The results showed that high-income people had the highest meanscores on three factors (usage, reliability, making new friends) while low-income people had the highest means on usefulness and ethical factors.Marital status had significant effects on usefulness, reliability, and ethical factors. Married people had the low scores on reliability and ethical factors. Lastly, education variable had no effect on all the factors examined.

전주지역 중학생의 성별 및 비만판정에 따른 식행동 비교 연구 (A Comparison of Dietary Behaviors According to Gender and Obesity Status of Middle School Students in Jeonju)

  • 청소년기의 식습관은 현재의 영양섭취와 미래의 건강에 영향을 미치므로 그 중요성이 강조되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 전주시내 중학생 450 명을 대상으로 학생들의 식행동을 조사하여 성별에 따른 차이 연구와 비만여부에 따른 차이를 연구하였다. 비만판정은 체질량 지수, 신장별 체중, 비만도의 3가지 비만판정 방법 중 2가지를 만족하는 학생을 비만으로 하였으며 설문지를 이용하여 식행동과 식품섭취 실태를 조사한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 조사대상자의 분포는 남학생은 56.7%(255명), 여학생은 43.3%(195명) 이었으며 비만${\cdot}$비비 만별로는 비만은 33.6%(151명), 비비만은 66.4% (299 명 ) 이였다. 또 남학생이 여학생보다 유의적으로 비만율이 높게 나타났다 (p<0.05). 나이는 13세, 14세가 가장 많았으며 부모의 학력은 고졸이 가장 많았고, 아버지 직업은 공무원 및 회사원이, 어머니 직업은 전업주부가 가장 많았다. 학 생들이 자각하는 경제적 수준은 중류층으로 인식하는 경우 가 가장 많았고 자신의 체격에 대해서는 비비만학생의 경우는 66.6% 가 '적당하다'고 인식하고 있었으며 비만학생의 경우는 62.0% 가 '뚱뚱하다'고 인식하고 있었다. 하루 중 세끼 모두 식사하는 경우는 64.2%였으며, 아침 결식은 27.3%, 점심 결식은 1.1%, 저녁 결식은 7.4% 임을 알 수 있었다. 식사 시간의 규칙성은 성별로는 남학생 (58.8%) 이 여학생 (55.9%)에 비해 규칙적이었으며, 비만${\cdot}$비비만별로는 비비만학생 (62.2%)이 비만학생 (48.0%) 에 비해 규칙적인 것으로 나타났다(p<0.05). 식사에 걸리는 시간은 전체 59.4% 가 10${\sim}$20 분이었고, 남학생이 여학생에 비해 식사속도가 빠른 것으로 나타났다 (p<0.05). 식사량은 남학생이 여학생보다 많고 비만학생이 비비만학생보다 식사량이 많은 것으로 나타났다. 가장 좋아하는 맛은 매운맛, 단맛, 신맛, 짠맛, 쓴맛 순이었고 비만 학생이 비비만학생에 비해 짠맛과 매운맛을 좋아하는 것으로 나다났다(p<0.05). 싫어하는 음식은 남녀학생 모두 특정 채소(부추, 호박)를 싫어하는 경향이 많았고 여학생이 남학생에 비해 식사할 때 가라는 음식이 많은 것으로 나다났다(p<0.01). 한 달 동안의 외식횟수는 2${\sim}$4회(33.6%) 가 가장 많았고, 비비만학생이 비만학생보다 외식 횟수가 많았으며 가족과 외식할 때 주로 먹는 음식은 한식, 양식, 중국음식 순으로 나다났다. 친구와 외식할 때 주로 먹는 음식은 패스트푸드가 79.6%로 가장 많았다 간식의 횟수는 대부분(86.3%) 하루에 1회 이상이었고 비비만학생이 비만학생보다 간식 횟수가 더 많았으며 (p<0.01), 간식을 먹는 주된 이유 는 배가 고파서였고 간식을 먹는 시간은 방과 후 저녁시간이 가장 많았다. 간식으로 주로 먹는 음식은 과자류, 라면류, 과일, 우유 및 유제품 순으로 나다났다. 성별에 따른 일주일간 식품 섭취는 남학생의 경우에 라면(p<0.05), 우유 (p<0.01), 탄산음료(p<0.05)가, 여학생의 경우는 초콜릿${\cdot}$사탕(p<0.05)의 섭취빈도가 높았으며 비만${\cdot}$비비만별 일주일간의 식품 섭취는 비비만학생이 비만학생에 비해 라면(p<0.05), 햄버거${\cdot}$피자(p<0.05), 초콜릿${\cdot}$사탕 (p<0.01)의 섭취빈도가 높았다. 또 남자 비비만학생이 햄버거${\cdot}$피자, 라면의 섭취빈도가 높았으며(p<0.05), 여자 비비만학생은 초콜릿${\cdot}$사탕의 섭취 빈도가 높았다 (p<0.01). 이상과 같이 식사의 규칙성, 싫어하는 음식, 간식, 식품섭취 빈도 등에서 남녀별, 비만${\cdot}$비비만별 차이가존재하며 특히 몇 가지 식습관과식 행동은 지도가 필요하다고 사료된다. 첫째, 아침 결식은 청소년기의 신체적 성장${\cdot}$발달과 수학능력 등 학교생활에 영향을 미치므로 적극적인 지도와 보완책이 필요하며 둘째, 친구들과 외식할 때 패스트푸드가 높은 비중을 차지하는 청소년들의 외식유형에 대한 관심과, 편향된 영양소와 지나친 칼로리의 패스트푸드를 지양하는 영양교육이 필요하며 셋째, 비만학생들의 식사량 제한이나 특정식품 제한은 성장기의 영양결핍이나 성장지연을 가져올 수 있으므로 올바른 체중관리 프로그램의 교육 및 보급이 필요하다고 사료된다. 이를 위한 청소년기의 바른 식생활 습관 적절한 영양섭취를 위한 체계적인 영양교육이 요구되며 학교와 가정, 사회가 관심을 가져야할 것이다.
