The physical condition assessment criteria of fill dam safety inspection are now weakly regulated and inappropriate for small agricultural reservoirs since these criteria have fundamental backgrounds suitable for large-scale dams. This study proposes the degree (critical values) of defects for the quantitative condition assessment of the embankment in order to prepare the condition assessment criteria for a small reservoir with a storage capacity of less than one (1) million cubic meters. The critical values of defects were calculated by applying the method that considers the size ratios based on the dimensional data of reservoirs, and the method of statistical analysis on the measured values of the defect degree which extracted from comprehensive annual reports on reservoir safety inspection. In comparison with the current criteria, the newly proposed critical values for each condition assessment item of the reservoir embankment are presented in paragraphs 4 and 6 of the conclusion. In addition, this study presents a method of displaying geometric figures to clarify the rating classification for condition assessment items with the two defect indicators.
The condition assessment of bridges is one of the important procedures in the safety evaluation of the structures. The current inspection guideline is rather ambiguous and vague so that the inspection results based on the existing guidelines are highly subjective and varing from person to person and even day to day for a given person. It is therefore, necessary to improve the current inspection criteria in order to provide consistent results in safety assessment. To circumvent possible inconsistencies in inspection and rating of bridge components, the revised criteria have been proposed in this study. The proposed guideline and criteria may be efficiently used for the realistic and consistent assessment of bridge structures.
The purpose of this study is tile development of tile observation Assessment criteria that is used to assess manipulative skills in elementary science. The procedures of developing observation Assessment criteria are as follows. First, we investigated the actual condition about science process skills assessment with tile questionnaire. Second, we selected 7 experimental apparatus through the analysis of the science textbooks. The selected experimental apparatus are dropper, alcohol lamp, thermometer, test tube, filtering device, able balance, graduated cylinder Third, the observation Assessment criteria arc developed through tile analysis of the related experimental textbooks, the demonstrations, and the questionnaire, Forth, tile validity is verified by science education specialists and graduate students who major in science education. Fifth, the first jilter-rater agreement is investigated in the result of the field with observation criteria of which the validity was verified. The second inter-rater agreement is investigated through the revision and the addition of the criteria with the low agreement. In result, the jilter-rater agreement ranged from 0.86 to 0.98. One of the major problems in observation assessment is the rater's subjective viewpoint. So, this research shows a more specified scale and criteria for the assessment. This suggests that the observation Assessment criteria developed in tile study satisfies the high reliability and validity requirements. Considering the results, this criteria call be used effectively for assessing manipulative skills of elementary school students.
This paper presents a graphical method for hazard assessment of electric shock by safety criteria. For the human body to be safety actual body current should not exceed safety criteria, i.e. allowable body current. The assessment method presented in this paper is based m the safety criteria of the IEEE Standard 80 as well as the IEC 479-1. The hazard can be assessed in terms of alterable touch voltages instead of alterable body current. Thus, the hazard assessment of given electric shock condition is referred to a procedure by which the actual touch voltages are compared with the allowable (safe) touch voltages. Since the IEC 479-1 safety criteria are nonlinear, the graphical method is presented for the hazard assessment. Body current and body voltage are calculated with the allowable touch voltage. A comparison of the safety criteria of two widely accepted standards, i.e. the IEEE Std 80 End the IEC 479-1 is proposed. Also Thevenin equivalent resistance is obtained from electric shock model expressed by two-port earth-grid-foot system. On the basis of calculated results, the allowable touch voltage, the body current and the body voltage we can conduct the hazard or safety assessment and estimate the severity of electric shock.
Recently, as fluctuations in annual precipitations continue to grow, the frequency of floods and droughts is rapidly increasing. Especially, since many reservoirs are reported as having less capacity and aging faster than large dams, the damages due to floods and droughts are estimated to become more severe. With this background for the present study, field investigation of reservoirs in Chungnam, Chungbuk, and Chonbuk regions was carried out for disaster prevention and the safety management of agricultural reservoirs. Furthermore, embankment transformations were compared and analyzed after the raising of embankments. Based on design methods for remodeling agricultural reservoirs and the results of embankment raising and the problems which occurred on crest, supplementation to the upstream and downstream slopes, control sector, and spillway should be implemented in the existing reservoir. In regard to this, the condition assessment score of compound member of reservoirs was performed, the Chungnam region score was in the 3.11-4.73 range. In addition, reservoirs in Chungbuk scored in the 4.00-4.49 range, and reservoirs in Chonbuk scored in the 3.90-4.60 range. Applying current precision safety inspection practices to small reservoirs requires economic expenses and time, for which assessment items are too varied and complex. Therefore, subdivided condition assessment items and criteria should be improved and streamlined by deleting, reducing, combining, and selecting only the riskiest factors. In the future, reservoirs should be periodically monitored and systemically managed and rational plans for maintenance and repairs should be used as reinforcement methods.
Climate change has often resulted in severe droughts in a rice-farming season (i.e., April to June), and the large amount of water resources were needed to cope with droughts during the season. Therefore, the subsurface dam, which is able to store groundwater resources in the alluvium aquifer, has been considered to be an alternative for securing more groundwater resources. In this study, suitable sites assessment criteria for agricultural subsurface dam using analytic hierarchy process (AHP) were established for adequate drought management. Moreover, the criteria were applied to the existing five agricultural subsurface dams to verify their applicability of groundwater supply for each subsurface dam. The assessment criteria were divided into three major categories (geology, hydrology and business condition) and classified to 12 individual sub-categories with weighting. From the assessment, Ian subsurface dam and Wooil subsurface dam were identified as the best and the worst suitable site, respectively, and this result was in accordance with the average amount of annual groundwater supply by each subsurface dam during the period of 2011-2017.

Background: Due to increased interest in animal welfare, there is now a need for a comprehensive assessment protocol to be used in intensive pig farming systems. There are two current welfare assessment protocols for pigs: Welfare Quality$^{(R)}$ Assessment Protocols (applicable in the Europe Union), that mostly focuses on animal-based measures, and the Swine Welfare Assurance Program (applicable in the United States), that mostly focuses on management- and environment-based measures. In certain cases, however, animal-based measures might not be adequate for properly assessing pig welfare status. Similarly, welfare assessment that relies only on environment- and management-based measures might not represent the actual welfare status of pigs. Therefore, the objective of this paper was to develop a new welfare protocol by integrating animal-, environment-, and management-based measures. The background for selection of certain welfare criteria and modification of the scoring systems from existing welfare assessment protocols are described. Methods: The developed pig welfare assessment protocol consists of 17 criteria that are related to four main principles of welfare (good feeding, good housing, good health, and appropriate behavior). Good feeding, good housing, and good health were assessed using a 3-point scale: 0 (good welfare), 1 (moderate welfare), and 2 (poor welfare). In certain cases, only a 2-point scale was used: 0 (certain condition is present) or 2 (certain condition is absent). Appropriate behavior was assessed by scan sampling of positive and negative social behaviors based on qualitative behavior assessment and human-animal relationship tests. Results: Modification of the body condition score into a 3-point scale revealed pigs with a moderate body condition (score 1). Moreover, additional criteria such as feed quality confirmed that farms had moderate (score 1) or poor feed quality (score 2), especially those farms located in a high relative humidity region. Conclusions: The developed protocol can be utilized to assess welfare status in an intensive pig farming system. Although further improvements are still needed, this study is a first step in developing a pig welfare assessment protocol that combines animal-, environment-, and management-based measures.
With the recent increase in the volume of liquid cargo transportation, there is a need for STS( Ship To Ship) globally. In the case of the STS mooring, the safety assessment should be conducted according to other criteria because mooring is different from the general mooring at the quay, but there is no separate standard in Korea. Thus in this study, STS mooring simulation and sensitivity analysis using OPTIMOOR program, the numerical analysis program, was conducted to identify the characteristics of the STS mooring. The target sea modeled the Yeosu port anchorage in Korea and the target ship was selected as the case of VLCC (Very Large Crude Oil Carrier)-VLCC. Through the numerical simulation and sensitivity analysis, the characteristics of STS mooring were identified. Also based on these results, we focused on establishing the standard for STS mooring safety assessment. Numerical simulation results show that the STS mooring safety can be changed according to a ship's cargo loading condition, pre-tension of mooring line, sea depth, encounter angle with the weather, and the weather condition. Additionally, the risk matrix is prepared to establish the safe external force range in the corresponding sea area. This result can be used to understand the mooring characteristics of STS and contribute to the revision of mooring safety assessment criteria.
The inspection of bridge condition is of extreme importance. Current inspection codes for bridge inspection are vague and uncertain. So, the results are highly subjective and different from person to person and even day to day for a given person. To circumvent possible inconsistencies in inspection and rating of bridge components, the revised inspection guidelines have been proposed.
This paper describes the structural analysis result and load test result of accident EMU(Electric Multiple Units). Structural analysis and load test of EMU were performed for the criteria of safety assessment. Structural analysis using commercial I-DEAS software provided important information on the stress distribution and load transfer mechanisms as well as the amount of damages during rolling stock crash. The purpose of the load test is to evaluate a safety which carbody structure shall be considered fully sufficient rigidity so as to satisfy proper system function under maximum load and operating condition. The results have been used to provide the critical information for the criteria of safety assessment.
