  • This paper describes a normalization of character which is contained in the character recognition process. Line and dot density is computed on input character image and then image mapping is executed into destination. Also recognition is processed using overlap-partitioning of character image and extraction of 4 directional feature primitives. The validity of proposed nonlinear normalization algorithm could be verified by increment of recognition rate.

  • It is an important factor to distinguish the kind of the character for increasing recognition rate before the character recognition in the document recognition system composed of the multi-font and multi-letter. All the letters of each country have a various men characteristic in the each composition. In this paper, we used the stroke density as a method to distinguish the letter, and it has been adopted Korean, English and Chinese character. Input data is processed by the normalization to adopt multi-font document. Proposed method has been proved by the results of experiment the fact that the distinction probability of the Korean and English is more than 80%.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm for character recognition using the subdivided type and the stable structure information. The subdivided type of character is acquired from the stable structure information of character which is extracted from an input character. Firstly, the character is obtained from a scanner and classified into on of 6 types by using directional density vector. And then, the stable structure information is extracted from each character and the character is subdivided into on of 26 types. Finally, the classified character is recognized by using neural network which is inputted the directional density vector equivalent to JASO area or recognized direct. Aa a result of experiment with KS C 5601 2350 printed Hangeul characters, we obtain the recognition rate of 94%.

  • In this paper, a novel approach based on wavelet transform is proposed to process the scraped character which is represented on digital image. The basis idea is that the scraped character is described by its textured neighborhood, and it is decomposed into multiresolution features at different levels with its background region. The image is first decomposed into sub bands by applying Daubechies wavelets. Character features are extracted from the low frequency sub-bands by partition, FCM clustering and area-based region process. High frequency ones are activated by applying local energy density over a moving mask. Features are synthesized in order to reconstruct the original image state through inverse wavelet transform Background region is eliminated and character is extracted. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Character plays an important role not merely in animation but also in the modern image industry. From this perspective a new academic approach to and an analysis of character seems of much significance. With this in view this study carried out an elucidation of the basic factors and concept of plasticity for the creation of animation character on the basis of animation structural elements. Furthermore, an inquiry was conducted into fundamental requirements and factors of animation characters, human anatomy serving as the basis of forms for animation character modelling, the characteristics and techniques for creating animation cubic character, and then suggested a method of creation. In this process it was revealed that integral cubic character was applied to diverse animations, that character of high density was prerequisite for the creation of creative and effective animations, and that cubic character plasticity played a catalytic role in activation popular sympathy and the character industry.

Environmentally Assisted Cracking of Alloys at Temperatures near and above the Critical Temperature of Water

  • Physical properties of water, such as dielectric constant and ionic product, significantly vary with the density of water. In the supercritical conditions, since density of water widely varies with pressure, pressure has a strong influence on physical properties of water. Dielectric constant represents a character of water as a solvent, which determines solubility of an inorganic compound including metal oxides. Dissociation equilibrium of an acid is also strongly dependent on water density. Dissociation constant of acid rises with increased density of water, resulting in drop of pH. Density of water and the density-related physical properties of water, therefore, are the major governing factors of corrosion and environmentally assisted cracking of metals in supercritical aqueous solutions. This paper discusses importance of "physical properties of water" in understanding corrosion and cracking behavior of alloys in supercritical water environments, based on experimental data and estimated solubility of metal oxides. It has been pointed out that the water density can have significant effects on stress corrosion cracking (SCC) susceptibility of metals in supercritical water, when dissolution of metal plays the key role in the cracking phenomena.

New Memristor-Based Crossbar Array Architecture with 50-% Area Reduction and 48-% Power Saving for Matrix-Vector Multiplication of Analog Neuromorphic Computing

  • In this paper, we propose a new memristor-based crossbar array architecture, where a single memristor array and constant-term circuit are used to represent both plus-polarity and minus-polarity matrices. This is different from the previous crossbar array architecture which has two memristor arrays to represent plus-polarity and minus-polarity connection matrices, respectively. The proposed crossbar architecture is tested and verified to have the same performance with the previous crossbar architecture for applications of character recognition. For areal density, however, the proposed crossbar architecture is twice better than the previous architecture, because only single memristor array is used instead of two crossbar arrays. Moreover, the power consumption of the proposed architecture can be smaller by 48% than the previous one because the number of memristors in the proposed crossbar architecture is reduced to half compared to the previous crossbar architecture. From the high areal density and high energy efficiency, we can know that this newly proposed crossbar array architecture is very suitable to various applications of analog neuromorphic computing that demand high areal density and low energy consumption.

Impact of individual traits, urban character and urban form on selecting cars as transportation mode for work travel (통근통행을 위한 통행수단으로서 자동차 선택에 개인속성 및 도시특성, 도시형태가 미치는 영향)

  • This study aims to draw a correlation in the choice of automobiles as the preferred mode of personal transport in relation to three factors: 5Ds, urban form and individual-level characteristics. The analysis result shows that the control at the individual level is required to analyze effective urban character and urban form elements to decrease the car choice and the 5Ds demonstrate meaningful relation to decreasing the car choice. However, it may be concluded that the density and the diversity, well-known elements in decreasing the car choice among Western cities do not show relatively large impact on Korean cities.
