Distribution Characteristics of Dioxins in Marine Sediment from Busan Port in Korea

  • Eight marine sediments from Busan port in Korea were annually analyzed to examine the concentration distribution of dioxins from 2006 to 2010. Yearly mean concentration of dioxins ranged from 186.3 to $383.3pg\;g^{-1}$ in real values and 5.087 to 8.541 pg-TEQ (Toxicity equivalency) based on dry weight of samples. The dioxin concentration at the site near fishing market was the highest concentration among all sampling sites. Also the dioxin concentration at the sites with various pollutant sources such as large ships, sewage influx and thermal power station as well as fishing market was higher than that of the sites without specific pollutant sources. Another main factor that affects the dioxin concentration is topography characteristics of the bay. The bay has relatively high dioxin concentration because of the lack of the pollutant diffusion. This study demonstrated that the dioxin concentration in the site with pollutant sources and the lack of the pollutant diffusion was relatively high as compared with the other sites. As a result of contribution ratio of dioxin congeners, OCDD (Octachlorodibenzodioxin) in all sites was major contributor in real value, in contrast, dioxin congeners in TEQ values were dominated by 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF.

Comparative risk analysis for priority ranking of environmental problems in Seoul

  • In Korea, there is no CRA studies and has not well known CRA and not well established their methodologies. Therefore, objectives of this study is to establish the framework of CRA consisting of health risk, economic risk and perceived risk and the detail methodologies of three main component of estimating and comparing those risks for on the three environmental problems of air pollution, indoor air pollution and drinking water contamination which being subjective to the eight sub-problems of hazardous ai. pollutants (HAPs), regulated pollutants (representative as PM10) and Dioxins (PCDDS/ PCDFs) in air pollution, and indoor ai. pollutants (IAPs) and Radon in indoor air pollution, and drinking water pollutants (DWPs), disinfection-by- products(DBPs) and radionuclides in drinking water contamination in Seoul, Korea. And then, their problems set priorities by individual and integrated risk. As a results, ranking of health risk were the following order of indoor air pollution, air pollution and then drinking water contamination, in three environmental problems and of radon, PM10, IAPs, HAPs, DWPs, Dioxins, DBPs, and then radionuclides in eight sub-problems. And that of economic risk were the same order. In the contrary, ranking of perceived risk were the following order of air pollution, drinking water contamination, and then indoor air pollution, and of HAPs, Dioxins, radionuclides, PM10, DWPs, IAPs, Radon and then DBPs.

열공정에서 페놀류로부터 Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins(PCDDs)과 Polychlorinated dibenzofurans(PCDFs)의 생성에 관한 연구[I] (A Study of Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins(PCDDs) and Polychlorinated dibenzofurans(PCDFs) Formation from Phenols in Thermal Process[I])

  • 페놀류 전구물질로부터 형성된 polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins(PCDDs)와 dibenzofurans(PCDFs)의 모든 동족체와 이성질체의 경향을 페놀과 19개의 염화페놀류의 분포를 이용하여 연구하였다. 실험은 $400^{\circ}C$(particle-mediated formation)와 $600{\sim}700^{\circ}C$(gas-phase formation)에서 각각 행하여 졌으며, 운반가스로 사용된 가스의 조성은 92%의 질소와 8%의 산소를 사용하였다. 염소기가 없는 dibenzo-p-dioxin(DD)와 dibenzofuran(DF)를 포함한 모든 종류의 PCDDs와 PCDFs의 동족체와 이성질체들이 20개의 페놀류를 혼합하여 사용한 본 실험으로부터 얻어졌다. 가스상 실험은 PCDFs가 많이 생성하였고, 입자상 실험에서는 PCDDs를 많이 생성 하였다. 가장 많이 생성된 동족체는 각각 DD와 DF였으며, 염소기의 숫자가 증가할수록, 동족체의 생성량은 감소하였다. 하지만 가스상과 입자상 실험에서 얻어진 PCDDs와 PCDFs의 동족체와 이성질체의 분포는 거의 항상 일정하였다. 고농도로 존재하는 페놀과 적은수의 염소기를 가지고 있는 염화 페놀류의 농도가 가스상과 입자상에서 발생하는 PCDDs와 PCDFs의 분포에 아주 중요한 역활을 하였다.
