초분광 카메라를 이용한 콘크리트 백화 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on Concrete Efflorescence Assessment using Hyperspectral Camera)

  • In Korea, the guideline for the bridge safety inspection requests to assess surface degradation, including crack, efflorescence, spalling, and so on, for the rating of concrete bridges. Currently, the assessment of efflorescence is performed based on the visual inspection of expertized engineers, which may result in subjective inspection result. In this study, a novel method using a hyperspectral camera is proposed for objective and accurate assessment of concrete efflorescence. The hyperspectral camera acquires the light intensity for a number of continuous spectral bands of light for each pixel in an image, which makes the hyperspectral imaging technique provides more detailed information than a color camera that collects intensity for only three bands corresponding to RGB (red, green, and blue) colors. A stepwise assessment algorithm is proposed based on the spectral features to decompose efflorescence area from the inspected concrete area. The algorithm is tested in the laboratory test using two concrete specimens, one of which is dark colored with efflorescence on a surface while the other is bright concrete without efflorescence. The test shows high accuracy and applicability of the proposed efflorescence assessment using a hyperspectral camera.

  • The cause of efflorescence originated from calciumsilicate hydrate brick was studied and some reports on efflorescence were reviewed. The main ingredient of undesirable efflorescence powder was sodium sulphate. It was found that influx of sodium and sulphur components was resulted from hydration water and fine sand.

  • This study progressed an investigation on the cause of the efflorescence phenomenon of bricks in Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, which is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage by using diverse scientific analyses. The samples were taken in Hwaseong and analyzed using XRD and SEM-EDS for the material identification of efflorescence. We observed under a polarizing microscope and measured absorption factors for the basic investigation for traditional bricks. As a result of material identification, soluble salt($Na_2SO_4$, $KNO_3$) and insoluble salt($CaCO_3$) were detected. There was no big difference between original bricks and repaired bricks under the polarizing microscope. However, in terms of the water absorption rate, bricks which were used for repair nowadays showed low water absorption rate(1%). In conclusion, soluble salt and insoluble salt appeared due to an effect of an air pollution and joint mortar. Soluble salt was removed in the rainy season, but insoluble salt was not removed. As a result of the efficiency and safety tests for chemicals removing efflorescence, chemical E is likely to be the suitable chemicals for the efflorescence phenomenon of traditional bricks in Suwon Hwaseong Fortress. In the future, consideration whether the use of lime is available or not should be studied through comprehensive researches including repair work, construction work and the environment factor with lime. Also, physical, chemical identifications of repairing bricks will be required.

Efflorescence assessment using hyperspectral imaging for concrete structures

  • Efflorescence is a phenomenon primarily caused by a carbonation process in concrete structures. Efflorescence can cause concrete degradation in the long term; therefore, it must be accurately assessed by proper inspection. Currently, the assessment is performed on the basis of visual inspection or image-based inspection, which may result in the subjective assessment by the inspectors. In this paper, a novel approach is proposed for the objective and quantitative assessment of concrete efflorescence using hyperspectral imaging (HSI). HSI acquires the full electromagnetic spectrum of light reflected from a material, which enables the identification of materials in the image on the basis of spectrum. Spectral angle mapper (SAM) that calculates the similarity of a test spectrum in the hyperspectral image to a reference spectrum is used to assess efflorescence, and the reference spectral profiles of efflorescence are obtained from theUSGS spectral library. Field tests were carried out in a real building and a bridge. For each experiment, efflorescence assessed by the proposed approach was compared with that assessed by image-based approach mimicking conventional visual inspection. Performance measures such as accuracy, precision, and recall were calculated to check the performance of the proposed approach. Performance-related issues are discussed for further enhancement of the proposed approach.

  • In this study, moisture absorption coefficient and efflorescence properties of Ordinary Portland cement and alkali-activated slag cement mortar were assessed according to their red mud substitution ratio. Tests were conducted to determine the cause of efflorescence, which is a significant obstacle to the recycling of red mud as a sodium activator in alkali-activated slag cement, and to find a method to control efflorescence.

세라믹소지에 생성되는 석회에 의한 백화현상분석 (Analysis of Ca-rich efflorescence in ceramic bodies)

  • 세라믹소지에 발생하는 온도별 백화생성기구를 백화를 형성하는 양이온과 음이온을 분석하여 규명하였다. 백화가 발생된 세라믹 소지의 표면을 SEM과 EDS 분석을 하여 백화의 주 성분은 Ca와 S임을 확인하였다. 세라믹소지를 pH 7과 pH 10에서 각기 습식혼합 하였으며, 이때 여과된 액을 ICP와 IC 분석을 하여, 양이온 및 음이온 농도분석을 하였다. pH 7에서 제조된 세라믹 소지의 Ca 이온농도는 pH 10에서 제조된 세라믹소지의 Ca 이온농도의 8배 값을 보였으며, pH 10에서 제조된 세라믹소지는 $1100^{\circ}C$ 이상으로 소결된 소지에서도 백화가 발견되지 않았다.

  • 본 논문은 알칼리활성화 슬래그 레드머드 시멘트의 백화저감을 위한 기초연구로서 다양한 온도 및 습도 조건이 레드머드 혼입 알칼리활성화 슬래그 시멘트의 강도 및 백화에 미치는 영향을 보통 포틀랜트 시멘트와 비교하여 검토하였다. 양생조건에 따른 레드머드 혼입 알칼리활성화 슬래그시멘트의 강도 및 백화특성 검토결과 표준수중양생을 실시한 모르타르는 기건양생, 고온양생, 저온양생과 비교하여 28일 압축강도, 휨강도가 가장 높게 나타났으며 흡수율 및 백화발생면적, $Na^+$용출량은 가장 낮게 나타났다. 따라서 향후 레드머드의 대량 활용을 위한 방안으로서 적정한 양생조건은 수중양생으로 사료된다.

  • 백화는 시멘트 콘크리트의 표면에 흰 가루 물질이 생성되는 것으로 이 현상은 지오폴리머에서도 나타난다. 지오폴리머의 백화는 알칼리 자극제의 나트륨과 대기 중 이산화탄소가 반응하여 나트륨 탄산염 물질이 지오폴리머 표면에 나타나 발생한다. 본 연구에서는 비산재 기반 지오폴리머의 Na/Al 비를 조절하거나 양생온도와 가열 양생 기간을 변화시켰을 때 2차 백화를 억제할 수 있는지 검토하였다. 지오폴리머의 28일 압축강도는 Na/Al 비가 0.8인 시료보다 Na/Al 비가 1.0인 시료에서 높게 나타났으며, 양생온도가 높고 가열 양생 기간이 길수록 강도는 높게 나타났다. 한편 백화는 Na/Al 비가 1.0인 시료의 경우 양생온도가 높고 가열 양생 기간이 길수록 적게 나타났다. Na/Al 비가 0.8인 시료에서는 Na/Al 비가 1.0인 시료에서 보다 백화가 더 빠르게 나타났다. 비산재 기반 지오폴리머의 2차 백화 발생을 억제하기 위해서는 Na/Al 비를 1.0으로 유지하는 것과 양생온도를 높이고 가열 양생 시간을 길게 하는 것이 유리할 것으로 생각된다.
