  • Many types of disasters are related to environmental problems. Today, frequently occurring disasters and global environmental problems have begun to threaten human life and welfare. Consequently, building sustainable communities requires assessing relationships between environmental problems and disasters using a broad, open approach and with a long-term perspective. This paper attempts to identify the need for conceptualizing disasters and environmental problems together by comparing mechanisms of both disasters and environmental problems, and attempts to integrate both of these seemingly different types of phenomena as similar types of risk threatening human existence. Based on this work, a chart is proposed for qualitatively organizing disasters, environmental problems and their mutual influences, as well as providing a framework for potential quantitative analysis. It is hoped this research serves to contribute to effective mitigation to both disasters and environmental problems in today's age of global environmental issues.

The level of middle school students' behavior of environmental problems is 3_49 out of perpect 5, which is somewhat lower than the consciousness of environmental problems. The highest was air pollution(M=4.11), and the lowest was water pollution(M=3.23). 2. The middle school students' consciousness and behavior of environmental problems showed passive corelation$(P<.01)$ : The higher the consciousness of environmental problems is better the behavior of environmental problems. 3. • The goal of today's environmental education is to enhance the understanding of the serious of environmental problems and the interactions among environment. With this perspectives people need to be aware that environmental education is no longer a liberal arts in university education, but play a vital role within the socio-cultural context. This study was performed to assess the changes in the university student's attitudes and consciousness in real life after the education of a point at issues of environmental problems. For this study 11 questionnaires which were composed of large scale environmental problems(water and air pollution), and small scale environmental problems(food additives, GMO, endocrine disrupter) were performed with self-administered by university students(n=781) who made a application for liberal arts related to environmental subjects. According to the analysis the most student's consciousness of a point at issue of environmental problems(water pollution, air pollution, additives, GMO, endocrine disrupter), and practical attitudes(i.e., practical attendant at congregation and internet voting) were change statistically significant(p<0.01) after the education of a point at issue of environmental problems rather than before. Specially, the score for the item of the large scale problem of environmental issues(water pollution, air pollution) were decreased significantly(p<0.01), but the score for the small scale problems, such as food additives, GMO, endocrine disrupter were increased significantly(p<0.01) after the education of a point at issue of environmental problems(p<0.01). And among the students that participated, 97.7% responded that such a point at issues of environmental problem is needed at the university. With this educational improvements supports the states that the education of a point at issue of environmental problems were more essential, practical and needed to students at university rather than that of an existing instruction. Thus, further studies are required to develop the education of environmental issues at universities like STSE programme.

  • The aim of this study is to clarify what influence has on elementary school children's environmental awareness in time of teaching environmental problems from an animistic viewpoint and from non-animistic viewpoint. For this purpose, this study carried out its research targeting 126 students in fourth grade at M elementary school located in U Metropolitan City. This study suggested the environmental problems by re-edifying the already suggested environmental problems from an animistic viewpoint to 62 students for two classes which were classified as an experimental group after sampling 10 cases of the representative environmental problems that might derive from the earth system, and conducted the class on 10 main topics relevant to the problematic situation of environment with an animistic viewpoint excluded targeting the remaining 64 students forming a comparison group. The results of this study were as follows: First, there appeared an ex-ante ex-post statistically significant difference in the awareness of environmental problems from the experimental group which received an environmental class from an animistic viewpoint. However, there didn't appear a statistically significant difference from the comparison group. This study interprets this result to mean that elementary students' awareness of environmental problems increase because they think about the environmental problems by associating them with a problem of life when the students receive the environmental class from an animistic viewpoint. Second, there appeared an ex-ante ex-post statistically significant difference in the awareness of environmental problems from the experimental group which received an environmental class from an animistic viewpoint. However, there didn't appear a statistically significant difference from the comparison group. Regarding this aspect, this study believes that the experimental group shows much higher willingness to environmental act in comparison with the comparison group because elementary school students think of inanimate objects as living things.

  • As the environmental problems are recognized as daily problems in our lives, not as issues of those who are engaged in specific professional fields, the interest in environmental education is increasing gradually. The environmental education is the one that studies the environment and its problems and seeks the solutions for them. This paper deals with how the Korean subject will include environmental education. The environmental problems are already dealt with in the Korean textbooks according to the 6th curriculum for the Korean subject. A noticeable fact is that those textbooks connect the skills for language skills with environmental education. That is, the textbooks try to improve 4 language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) with the Korean data related to environment, which can be the most practical means. This tendency will be also reflected in the 7th curriculum for the Korean subject, and the means will be taken by which environmental education will be able to be implemented more effectively through a variety of learning activities. In case of speaking and listening, learning activities such as speaking of, listening to, or discussing the contents concerning environmental problems can be recommended. In case of reading and literature, learning activities such as reading articles or works concerning environmental problems. Through these learning activities the Korean education will be able to achieve the goal in the fields of knowledge, information, and autonomy or attitudes which are the goals of environmental education. If the contents of the Korean curriculum are described in detail, it can be known that the Korean subject have someting to do with knowledge, skills, and recognition more deeply. In the methods In obtain information and knowledge, it will be desirable to recognize knowledge and information indirectly through various reading data rather than to recognize knowledge and information directly. Or it will be desirable to increase the sensitivity about environmental problems through literary works. For this environmental education in the above, we need to utilize discussion or presentation-oriented leaching and learning in the Korean education. Also we need to approach environmental problems by using various teaching media. We need to emphasize the education in the affective domain, especially through expression of emotions. guidance of reactions, internalization, personification, and so on.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the priority of environmental problems in Korea by investigating the environmental professionals' perception. The delphi technique was applied to identify their risk perception towards some specific items related with pollution. A standardized questionnaire on environmental problems and their priorities was used to 74 subjects. In the questionnaire, the environmental problems were divided into the general ones,9 items, and the specific ones,30 items. Also, the perception was associated with two points of view which were the risk on general human health or ecosystem, and on the present situation in Korea. The priority of risk from general environmental problems on human health or ecosystem was analyzed in the order of 'water pollution', 'air pollution', 'soil contamination', 'waste', 'toxic chemical pollutants', 'food contamination', 'ocean contamination', 'odor pollution', and 'noise pollution'. The priority of risk on the present situation in Korea was analyzed in the order of 'water pollution','air pollution','waste','toxic chemical pollutants','food contamination','soil contamination','ocean contamination','odor pollution', and 'noise pollution'. And these priorities were significantly related with the characteristics of respondents such as sex, age, and major concerned area. However, for the first five priorities of risk from the specific environmental problems on human health or ecosystem, the environmental professionals agreed with 'automotive vehicle exhaust', 'domestic and industrial source pollutants to surface water', '$CO_2$nd g1oba1 warming effect','toxic air pollutant' and 'industrial source air pollution'. The priorities of risk on the present situation in Korea were similar to these results.
