팽창 흑연을 포함한 폴리우레탄 폼의 난연 및 물성 변화 연구 (Flame Retardancy and Physical Properties of Polyurethane Foam with Expandable Graphite)

  • 본 연구에서는 팽창 흑연의 함량 변화를 달리하여 제조한 팽창 흑연/폴리우레탄 폼 복합체의 난연성 및 물리적 특성을 고찰하였다. 제조된 팽창 흑연/폴리우레탄 폼 복합체는 팽창 흑연의 함량이 증가할수록 인장강도는 감소하였고, SEM 의한 셀 형성을 분석한 결과 팽창 흑연 함량이 증가할수록 셀이 불균일하고 붕괴되는 현상이 발생함을 확인할 수 있었다. 압축강도와 밀도, 공기 투과도 시험결과 팽창 흑연의 함량이 증가할수록 밀도가 증가하면서, 압축강도 값이 높아졌으며, 공기 투과도는 낮게 나타났다. 난연성은 합성된 폼의 탄화길이를 분석하였으며 팽창 흑연의 함량이 10 phr 이상 첨가될수록 우수한 난연 성능을 발현함을 알 수 있었다. X-ray diffraction (XRD)에 의한 회절도 분석결과 팽창 흑연의 함량이 증할수록 $2{\theta}=26^{\circ}$부근에서 흑연의 결정피크가 나타남을 확인할 수 있었다.

팽창흑연을 사용한 복합재료의 난연 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study for the Fire Retardant-Characteristics of Expandable Graphite Composite Materials)

  • In this study, the composite material of expandable graphite was made to the material development for improving such as a composite material of the sandwich panels or material properties of a fire door and was tested by the ISO 1182, ISO 5660-1(Cone calorimeter Method). For the test, the composite material of expandable graphite, what the expandable graphite ratio was increased by respectively 0g~30g, was classified A1,A2, A3, A4, and made to the test specimens. Through cone calorimeter test, peak heat release rate(HRR) and total heat release(THR), expanded thickness and expansion rate of each composite material of expandable graphite, and fire prone crack and mass loss rate after burning was measured. Thus, the effect of the addition of the expandable graphite and whether is suitable for reference as a fire retardant, was analyzed. Consequently the correlation of THR and fire retardant performance rate was confirmed.

Microwave-treated Expandable Graphite Granule for Enhancing the Bioelectricity Generation of Microbial Fuel Cells

  • Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) convert chemical energy to electrical energy via electrochemically active microorganisms. The interactions between microbes and the surface of a carbon electrode play a vital role in capturing the respiratory electrons from bacteria. Therefore, improvements in the electrochemical and physicochemical properties of carbon materials are essential for increasing performance. In this study, a microwave and sulfuric acid treatment was used to modify the surface structure of graphite granules. The prepared expandable graphite granules (EGG) exhibited a 1.5 times higher power density than the unmodified graphite granules (1400 vs. 900 mW/m3). Scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed improved physical and chemical characteristics of the EGG surface. These results suggest that physical and chemical surface modification using sulfuric acid and microwave heating improves the performance of electrode-based bioprocesses, such as MFCs.

팽창성 흑연과 금속수산화물이 목재·플라스틱 복합재의 특성에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Expandable Graphite and Metal Hydroxides on the Properties of Wood Plastic Composites (WPCs))

  • Wood-plastic composites (WPCs) composed of mainly wood flour and thermoplastics have attracted considerable attentions due to advantages of cost effectiveness, high durability, and microbial resistance. However, relatively poor fire resistance of WPCs from low thermal stability of wood and plastics prevents further uses. This study investigated the effect of expandable graphite (EG) and aluminium hydroxide (AH)/magnesium hydroxide (MH) on the properties of WPCs. The combined incorporation of both EG and metal hydroxide (i.e., AH or MH) into formulations leads to higher flexural modulus of filled composites compared to neat PP and WPC. In thermal properties, EG played an important role in improving thermal stability of filled composites by suppressing thermal decompositions of wood and PP. Moreover, EG showed better water absorption features. From this research, it can be said that EG and metal hydroxides have potentials as effective reinforcement, flame retardant, and moisture barrier.

고밀도 팽창흑연 성형품의 압축 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study of Mechanical Properties in Compression on High density Graphite Products with Expanded Graphite)

  • Graphite is well known as a material which has high-temperature thermostable property, chemical resistance against acid and alkaline state also is very easy to environment. Nowadays the need of graphite product is increasing rapidly because of its advantages. In this paper, the mechanical property of newly developed graphite products with high density is investigated with especially in compression test. I introduced the graphite specimens for this study by NGF method with two expandable graphite and compared to the specimens of commercial graphite sheet from expanded graphite which made by the rolling process. I investigated the characteristics of these materials by measuring specific weight, hardness, compressive strength and investigating structures by SEM, It is verified that the graphite products with NGF method has superior properties for using gasket materials than that of commercial graphite sheet.

인계 난연제를 사용한 난연 EPDM 폼에서 팽창흑연 첨가효과 분석

  • 다양한 첨가제가 들어가는 고분자 화합물(compound)의 제조에 있어 난연 발포 보조제인 팽창흑연(Expandable Graphite, EGP)은 흡유가가 낮기 때문에 비교적 많은 양을 첨가해도 혼합(Mixing)이 잘 되는 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 논문에서는 대표적인 인계 난연제 APP(Ammonium Polyphosphate)를 사용한 난연 EPDM(Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) 폼에 팽창흑연 첨가량을 증가시키면서 산소 지수와 발열량을 통해 난연 성능의 변화를 분석하였다. 산소지수는 ISO 4589-2 상온 산소지수 방법을, 발열량 평가는 ISO 5660-1 콘 칼로리미터를 활용하였다.

  • In this research, a high-elasticity acrylic emulsion binder with core-shell polymerization and self-crosslinking system is mixed with a flame-retardant water-dispersed polyurethane (PUD) binder. In addition, finite element analysis was conducted through virtual engineering software ANSYS by applying three representative nonlinear material models. The most suitable nonlinear material model was selected after the relative comparison between the actual experimental values and the predicted values of the properties derived from simulations. The selected nonlinear material model is intended to be used as a nonlinear material model for computational simulation analysis that simulates the experimental environment of the vibration test (ASTM E1399) and the actual fire safety test (ASTM E1966). When the mass fraction of thermally expandable graphite was 0.7%, the thermal and physical properties were the best. Among the nonlinear material models, the simulation result of the Ogden model showed the closest value to the actual result.

팽창 흑연을 포함한 NBR/GTR 발포체의 난연 및 발포특성 (Flame Retardancy and Foaming Properties of the NBR/Ground Tire Rubber Foams Containing Expandable Graphite)

  • 팽창 흑연을 포함한 NBR/GTR 발포체를 제조하고, 이들의 난연특성 및 발포특성에 팽창 흑연이 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 고무재료로 NBR만을 사용한 경우 팽창 흑연 30 phr, 폐타이어 고무분말 (GTR)을 포함한 경우 팽창 흑연 10 phr 범위 내에서, 발포특성에 있어서는 팽창 흑연을 사용하지 않은 경우와 유사한 셀 구조 및 첨가제 분산을 가짐을 알 수 있었다. 한계 산소 지수 (LOI) 분석 결과 팽창 흑연의 함량이 증가함에 따라 LOI가 증가함을, 콘칼로리미터 분석 결과 LOI분석 결과와 유사한 경향성을, 즉 LOI가 증가함에 따라 열방출속도 (HRR), 총열방출량 (THR) 등이 감소함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 상기한 조성 내에서 우수한 난연특성을 즉, 낮은 열방출속도, 총열방출량, 유효연소열 (EHC) 등을 가짐을 알 수 있었다. 연기밀도에 있어 콘칼로리미터 분석에서의 A-COY와 유사한 경향성을, TGA 분석에 있어 LOI 및 콘칼로리미터 분석결과와 대체적으로 유사함을 알 수 있었다.

수산화나트륨 수용액으로 처리한 흑연의 열/전기전도 특성 (Thermal / Electrical Conductivities of Graphites Treated in Aqueous NaOH Solution)

  • Thermal and electrical conductivities of the natural, artificial, and expandable graphites were analyzed after treatment in NaOH aqueous solution. In order to investigate the elimination of the oxidized groups and impurities on the graphite surfaces after NaOH treatment, the graphite samples were structurally characterized by using XRD, XPS, Raman, FE-SEM. The thermal and electrical conductivities of the graphite samples were significantly improved after NaOH treatment. These results were caused by the structural rehabiliation.
