A study on a sequences of games with draw (비김이 있는 연속적인 게임에 관한 연구)

  • In the theory of probability, a Bernoulli trial is a random experiment with exactly two possible outcomes, "success" and "failure", in which the probability of success is the same every time the experiment is conducted. In the successive games of scissors paper stone there exists the case of draw in each game. In this paper we are interested in the ultimate success probability of each participant and the expected number of the game till any one of the two has the ultimate victory. Using our results, we can calculate the ultimate winning probability of each player of the two players and the expected number of the game till any one of the two has the ultimate victory in any case whether there is draw or not in each game.

Analyzing the Ecosystem of the Domestic Online Game Industry : Focusing on the Linkage between Developers and Publishers (국내 온라인 게임 산업 생태계 분석 : 개발사-퍼블리셔 관계를 중심으로)

  • This study aims to analyze the structure and characteristics of the domestic online game industry using network analysis. In particular, two-mode network analysis is employed to measure the network structure, centrality, and cluster for two types of online game platforms, online games and mobile games, from 1996 to 2014. We also conduct a dynamic analysis to capture the structural changes in the ecosystem by internal and external environmental changes before and after turning point for each online game platform. It is revealed that the online game econsystem has the higher number of clusters and higher concentration ratio than those of mobile game ecosystem. In dynamic analysis, both platforms exhibit similar trends over time with the increasing number of clusters, enlargement of largest cluster's size, and decreasing concentration ratio. This study is expected to provide fruitful implications for strategic decision making of online game companies and policy making for the online game industry.

On Estimation and Distribution of Game Satisfaction (게임만족도 추정 및 분포에 관한 연구)

  • Every year, although the number of game enterprises increases, every game which is developed and distributed by these enterprises do not have competitiveness. One game even increasing competitiveness and added value of game industry, we have to develop games which are satisfied with users, and for it, we need scientific research which evaluates about satisfaction. In this paper, We quantatively estimate game satisfaction by using AHP and statistical method. Also we discuss the method which derive distribution of game satisfaction. We can acquire expected effect which predicts satisfaction level and standard about games by using these methods.

  • The wide spread of smartphones and the growth of the number of internet users are reshaping the SNS (Social Network Service). Merging into other service areas and creating new business models with high profits, SNS is no more a service simply providing personal connections. Now SNS has positioned itself as a service platform. SNG (Social Network Game) is a new outcome utilizing SNS as a game platform and showing a rapid growth rate in a short period of time. The number of SNG users is expected to increase steadily. In this study, we examine whether SNG user motivations lead to flow experience and future intention to use. For that purpose, we conducted a survey with smartphone users. The results indicate that flow experience functions as a mediator and user motivations indirectly affect intention to use through flow experience. This paper concludes with discussions on findings and suggestions for future research.

  • In this paper, many game companies seek better optimization and easy-to-apply logic to prolong the game's lifespan and provide a better game environment for users. Therefore, research will be showing the game's key input response method called RoS (Response of Speed). The purpose of the method is to simultaneously perform various motions with the character showing natural motion without errors even if the character's control key is duplicated. This method is for the developers so they can reduce bugs and development time in future game development. To be used with quickly generating game environments, the new method compares with the popular motion method, so which method is faster and can adapt to diverse games. The paper suggested that the Response of Speed method is a better method for optimizing frames and reducing the number of reacting seconds by showing a faster response and speed). With the method popularity of scrollers, many 2D cross-scroll games follow the formula of Dash, Shoot, Walk, Stay, and Crouch. With the development of game engines, it is becoming easier to implement them. Therefore, although the method presented in the above paper differs from the popular method, it is expected that there will be no great difficulty in applying it to the game because transplantation is easy. In the future, we plan to study to minimize the delay of each connection of the character motion so that the game can be optimized to best.

A Case Study of Cooperative Learning: Applying Group Game to Calculus Class (미적분학 수업에 그룹게임을 적용한 협동학습 사례)

  • This paper is to study whether cooperative learning applying group games becomes a teaching method that can increase interest and participation in class in calculus and the effect of the number of students. To increase interest and participation in class, the researcher conducted cooperative learning by applying smartphones and various game tools to group games. The consequences of the study confirmed that students' interest and participation in the class increased regardless of their mathematics basics. Therefore, it is expected that the calculus which is difficult for students to understand will be more easily approached by cooperative learning applying group games in the future.

A Study on the Factors Affecting the Success of Crowdfunding for Game Development Projects (게임개발 프로젝트를 위한 크라우드펀딩의 성공에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구)

  • Procurement of development funds is a very difficult process in the Korean game industry where competition is fierce. Recently, crowdfunding has been used as a convenient platform to attract potential investors to secure the development cost of the game. This study explored the factors influencing the success of crowdfunding for game development projects. We collected data on 229 game development projects in Tumblebuck, a reward-based crowdfunding site in Korea. According to the results of the logistic regression model, the factors that have a positive effect on the success of funding are the average compensation amount relative to the target amount, the number of SNS shares, the number of updates, and the originality of the proposed game. Video playback time has been found to have a negative impact. Based on the results of this study, it is expected that planning a game development project considering the variables affecting the success of crowdfunding will help financing.

Measuring Operational Efficiency of Korean Online Game Companies with DEA Window Analysis (DEA Window 분석을 이용한 국내 온라인 게임 기업의 운영 효율성 평가)

  • This paper measures the operational efficiency of domestic online game companies and analyze its trends and patterns by using data envelopment analysis (DEA). DEA is a non-parametric approach to measuring the relative efficiency of decision-making units (DMUs) with multiple inputs and outputs. 14 online game companies are selected as DMUs and three inputs (number of employees, capital and asset) and three outputs (sales, operating profit and net profit) are selected as DEA variables. First, the output-oriented BCC model and super-efficiency model are employed to measure the static operational efficiency of the online game companies from 2003 to 2012. We also conduct the dynamic analysis with DEA window model to capture the trends of their operational efficiency influenced by internal and external environmental changes. The results are expected to provide fruitful implications for strategic decision making of online game companies and policy making for the online game industry.

ON LIMIT BEHAVIOURS FOR FELLER'S UNFAIR-FAIR-GAME AND ITS RELATED MODEL

  • Feller introduced an unfair-fair-game in his famous book [3]. In this game, at each trial, player will win 2k yuan with probability pk = 1/2kk(k + 1), k ∈ ℕ, and zero yuan with probability p0 = 1 - Σk=1 pk. Because the expected gain is 1, player must pay one yuan as the entrance fee for each trial. Although this game seemed "fair", Feller [2] proved that when the total trial number n is large enough, player will loss n yuan with its probability approximate 1. So it's an "unfair" game. In this paper, we study in depth its convergence in probability, almost sure convergence and convergence in distribution. Furthermore, we try to take 2k = m to reduce the values of random variables and their corresponding probabilities at the same time, thus a new probability model is introduced, which is called as the related model of Feller's unfair-fair-game. We find out that this new model follows a long-tailed distribution. We obtain its weak law of large numbers, strong law of large numbers and central limit theorem. These results show that their probability limit behaviours of these two models are quite different.

  • As virtual reality technology has gained popularity from people, various contents have appeared. Virtual reality game making good use of virtual reality device has received lots of attention from users and market. A number of virtual reality games have been developed. Virtual reality game allows users to feel presence and flow to be maximized through virtual reality device. A user can interact with several items through interface of device in display environment of virtual reality. This study was find a way to arouse an interest and induce users to be immersed in virtual reality game by maximizing above mentioned characteristics. This study was analyze interaction items in popular virtual reality game and interface design methods before presenting design methods. This study was make a comparative analysis of interface design methods centering on virtual reality game cases and examine a link between interface and interaction items. Through this study, it is expected that this will be a prior study that will be the basis for designing interfaces for virtual reality games that are more presence.
