  • The Extradosed PSC bridge is one of the best alternates which not only covers the longer span than PSC box girder and also performs the role of landmark facility with much cheaper cost than cable stayed bridge. Since the cable-stayed long span bridge is more flexible than general medium span bridges and railway bridges can be experienced resonance phenomenon by repeated equidistant axle loading of the train, it is inevitable to consider the dynamic behavior on impact, deflection and so on. In the present study, the dynamic behavior of an Extradosed PSC railway bridge subjected to moving train forces is analyzed. As well as trains which operate in conventional railway tines, KTX train is also considered. For the estimation of dynamic performances of the Extradosed PSC bridge, vertical deflection, accelerations of the slab, end rotation of the girder and impact on pylons and cables are discussed.

  • In this paper, structural characteristics for an extradosed prestressed concrete box girder bridge are investigated in terms of selective parameters. These parameters are mainly associated with the structural details of the extradosed bridge and derived from currently available literatures regarding previous design drawings. The analyses have been carried out using general-purpose structural analysis program, RM-Space Frame. The parameters evaluated for the present study represent the most salient features of the extradosed bridge and are as follows; 1) span length ratio(side-span length to center-span length), 2) boundary condition of girder, 3) height of pylon, 4) anchorage location of external cables and 5) girder stiffness. The analytical predictions indicate that span length ratio and pylon height are reasonably adequate in the range of 0.55 to 0.60 and $L_m/8$ to $L_m/12$ respectively for the bridge under consideration. Also, demonstrated is the boundary condition of girder, in which rigid-connection details give more efficiency than the continuous details. In addition, considering structural characteristics of the extradosed bridge, it is desirable that the girder stiffness should be determined by the stress range of external cables rather than bending moment of girder.

  • Since Ganter Bridge in switzerland was constructed in 1980, many extradosed bridge, especially not covered by concrete, have constructed in Japan. From the end of 1990's, Korea, the demands for the new-stylied and symbolized bridge had raised and extradosed bridge is applied in midspan bridges. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the constructional technique of the Extradosed Bridge, named Nok San Bridge in Pusan, Korea. Nok San Bridge is the first one of the several bridge used by the patterns of external tendons in Korea.

  • Recently, the concrete-steel hybrid extradosed bridge has been proposed as alternative bridge type at long span site. The hybrid extradosed bridge adopts light orthogonal deck girder instead of heavy concrete deck girder at the center span of bridge, and it enables to construct long-span bridge. And also, for this bridge type the decrease of self-weight of girder enables to reduce girder depth and side span length of extradosed bridge, so its type has more efficient structural behavior and makes it possible to perform optimal bridge design. Therefore, it is very important to set up the procedure and parameters of optimal design for concrete-steel hybrid extradosed bridge. In this study, the effects of design parameters (the variation of pylon height, bridge deck depth and orthogonal deck girder length) are discussed. And numerical analysis and sensitivity analysis are carried out according to these parameters. And design weight values about these parameters are quantitatively suggested to reflect characteristics of concrete-steel hybrid bridge.

  • The aim of this paper is to open up a relatively new type in bridge engineering by introducing plan and design of extradosed bridge which is implemented in Sungnam-Janghowon T/K project. The topic encompasses parametric study including the behavior of the bridge relevant to the cable layout, the distance from pier table to the first cable's location, the height of pylon, the stiffness of cross section and wind vibration to ascertain sectional type of bridge and span length. For the purpose of the knowledge base presented here, the important feature of design is recommended such as modeling method, camber control, finite element analysis and heat hydration of pier table. We can verify the issue related to the characteristics of extradosed bridge as a result of study and design endeavor.

  • The recent development of PSC girder bridges are mostly dedicated for optimization of self-weight, simplification of girder section for easy construction and minimization of maintenance efforts. Moreover some of those bridges are required as a landmark facility which raises the image of locality and harmony with surroundings. An extradosed bridge is one of the best alternates which not only covers the longer span than PSC box girder and also performs the role of landmark facility with much cheaper cost than cable stayed bridge. Hyundai is carrying out the construction of unique style extradosed bridge which have central suspension system and uniform girder depth named Keong-An grand bridge on the Sungnam-Janghowon Express highway. In this paper, major process of design and construction features of Keong-An bridge is presented.

  • The study is indispensable for the dynamic behaviors because this Cable-stayed long span bridge ; has a more flexible structure than normal bridge can have weaknesses which are impact factor, deflection and defectives etc. This study analyze the dynamic behavior by an analysis of the moving constant train force on railway with Midas/Civil that is a commercial finite element analysis tool about Extradosed PSC Bridge. Also it will be checked the dynamic behavior features and standard of the dynamic capability.

  • This study proposes the optimal ratio of vertical load-carrying capacity (${\beta}$) by investigating structural performances and economic efficiency in the extradosed bridges. Without design standards for the extradosed bridge, Japanese design standards have been used domestically. For the design live load, DL24 is found to be more adequate than DB24. Using the DL24 load, parameter studies are carried out. The parameters are 'main tower height', 'main girder stiffness', and 'cable arrangement'. As a result, it is found that one side cable-stayed extradosed bridges are more economical than double side cable-stayed extradosed bridges. This study also shows that when the ratio of vertical load-carrying capacity(${\beta}$) is 30~50% in the extradosed bridge with the ratio of tower height to main span length 1/6, the extradosed bridge is most economical because of the cable stress less than the allowable stress.

  • This study presents a method to evaluate the seismic risk of an extradosed bridge with seismic isolators of lead rubber bearings (LRBs), and also to show the effectiveness of the LRB isolators on the extradosed bridge, which is one of the relatively flexible and lightly damped structures in terms of seismic risk. Initially, the seismic vulnerability of a structure is evaluated, and then the seismic hazard of a specific site is rated using an earthquake data set and seismic hazard maps in Korea. Then, the seismic risk of the structure is assessed. The nonlinear seismic analyses are carried out to consider plastic deformation of bridge columns and the nonlinear characteristics of soil foundation. To describe the nonlinear behaviour of a column, the ductility demand is adopted, and the moment-curvature relation of a column is assumed to be bilinear hysteretic. The fragility curves are represented as a log-normal distribution function for column damage, movement of superstructure, and cable yielding. And the seismic hazard at a specific site is estimated using the available seismic hazard maps. The results show that in seismically-isolated extradosed bridges under earthquakes, the effectiveness of the isolators is much more noticeable in the columns than the cables and girders.

  • This study presents fragility curves for the wind fragility analysis of a six-span extradosed bridge. The loads and corresponding load combinations are calculated using domestic design codes. Random variables are utilized to considering the uncertainties of the input variables for wind loads. The fragility curve is represented as a log-normal distribution function, in which two parameters are estimated by the maximum likelihood method. The results show that the extradosed bridge is safe to suffer static wind forces.
