  • In this thesis the legal systems related to real estate and sea area utilization are studied in order to improve them for construction of Very Large Floating Structure. Main research subjects are as follows: 1) Whether can Very Large Floating Structure be accepted or not as real estate like house and land\ulcorner 2) How can the sea area which is occupied by Very Large Floating Structure be utilized\ulcorner As the conclusion, the Very Large Floating Structure can be registered as real estate even though it is not specified by Korean law for the present. The design concept of Very Large Floating Structure can be interpreted as satisfying enough necessary conditions and factors for Very Large Floating Structure to become real estate. In the near future, we have to make improvement on the laws related with the construction of Very Large Floating Structures so that private sectors can joint the construction. In additions, a new law for various floating structures should be made as soon as possible.

  • In previous study, the hybrid floating structure composed of a pontoon and a semi-submersible was suggested to reduce the motions of floating structure. It was reported that the suggested hybrid floating structure could reduce the motions. However, the hybrid floating structure could not support enough buoyancy. In this study, the combination floating structure is newly suggested to resolve the problem. In order to adopt the shape of floating structures reducing the motions, the hydrodynamic analysis of various floating structures such as the pontoon, the hybrid and the combination of floating structure is carried out through hydrodynamic analysis program ANSYS AQWA. It is found that the combination floating structure is remarkably effective to reduce the motions compared to the other cases. Thus, the suggested combination floating structure may be a useful offshore structure for constructing a very large floating structure.

  • Considering a rigorously fluid-structure interaction, a method for an earthquake response analysis of a floating offshore structure subjected to vertical ground motion from a seaquake is developed. Mass, damping, stiffness, and hydrostatic stiffness matrices of the floating offshore structure are obtained from a finite-element model. The sea water is assumed to be a compressible, nonviscous, ideal fluid. Hydrodynamic pressure, which is applied to the structure, from the sea water is assessed using its finite elements and transmitting boundary. Considering the fluid-structure interaction, added mass and force from the hydrodynamic pressure is obtained, which will be combined with the numerical model for the structure. Hydrodynamic pressure in a free field subjected to vertical ground motion and due to harmonic vibration of a floating massless rigid circular plate are calculated and compared with analytical solutions for verification. Using the developed method, the earthquake responses of a floating offshore structure subjected to a vertical ground motion from the seaquake is obtained. It is concluded that the earthquake responses of a floating offshore structure to vertical ground motion is severely influenced by the compressibility of sea water.

  • Recently, floating offshore structure is studied as one of the effective utilization of the ocean space. And floating structure are now being considered for various applications such as floating airports, offshore cities and so on. The motion analysis of the fishing spot of floating offshore structure as it receives regular wave is studied. The finite element method is used in the analysis of structural section of this structure. And the analysis is carried out using the boundary element method in the fluid division. In order to know the characteristics of the motion of the floating fishing spot structures, effects of wavelength, water depth, and wave direction on dynamic response of the floating structure are studied by use of numerical calculation.

  • A seismic response analysis method for three-dimensional floating offshore structures due to seaquakes is developed. The hydrodynamic pressure exerted on the structure is calculated taking into account the compressibility of the sea water, the fluid-structure interaction, the energy absorption by the seabed, and the energy radiation into infinity. To validate developed method, the hydrodynamic pressure induced by the vibration of a floating massless rigid circular disk is calculated and compared with an exact analytical solution. The developed method is applied to seismic analysis of a support structure for a floating offshore wind turbine subjected to the hydrodynamic pressures induced from a seaquake. Analysis results show that earthquake response of a floating offshore structure can be greatly influenced by the compressibility of fluid, the depth (natural frequencies) of the fluid domain, and the energy absorption capacity of the seabed.

  • This paper deals with the analysis of dynamic characteristics of mooring system of floating-type offshore wind turbine. A spar-type floating structure which consists of a nacelle, a tower and the platform excepting blades, is used to model the floating wind turbine and connect three catenary cables to substructure. The motion of floating structure is simulated when the mooring system is attached using irregular wave Pierson-Moskowitz model. The mooring system is analyzed by changing cable position of floating structure. The dynamic behavior characteristics of mooring system are investigated comparing with cable tension and 6-dof motion of floating structure. These characteristics are much useful to initial design of floating-type structure. From the simulation results, the optimized design parameter that is cable position of connect point of mooring cable can be obtained.

  • A numerical method is developed for the hydroelastic response of the Very Large Floating Structure considering the sea-bottom topography. The sea-bottom effects on the hydroelastic response of the floating structure is studied. The sea-bottom topography should be considered when the floating structure is constructed near the shore. To investigate the sea-bottom effects, four different sea-bottom topographies are considered in this study. finite-element method based on the variational formulation is used in the fluid domain, The pontoon-type floating structure is modeled as the Kirchhoff plate. The mode superposition method is adopted for the hydroelastic behavior of the floating structure.

  • A large floating structure is attracting great attention in recent years from the view of ocean space utilization. Its huge scale in the horizontal directions compared with the wavelength and relatively shallow depth make this type of floating structure flexible and its wave-induced motion be characterized by the elastic deformation. In this paper, a boundary integral equation method is proposed to predict the wave-induced dynamic response mat-like floating offshore structure. The structure is modeled as an elastic plate and its elastic deformation is expressed as a superposition of free-vibration modes in air. This makes it straightforward to expand the well-established boundary integral technique for rigid floating bodies to include the hydroelastic effects. In order to validate the theoretical analysis, we compare with the experimental result of reduced model test. Satisfactory agreement is found between theory and experiment.

  • This paper investigates and compares the natural modes and static reponses of moduled and one-bodied floating structures. Equations for calculating natural modes and static responses are formulated by finite element method and the natural modes are solved by subspace iteration method. A floating parking place whose length is 120 m and width 60 m is considered as an example structure.
