The Relationship Between the Food Habit and the Health Responses to the Todai Health Index (식습관(食習慣)과 건강상태(健康狀態)와의 관계성(關係性)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • This study was undertaken to investigate the relationship between the food habit and the health status. For this Purpose, 709 junior and senior high school teachers were studied by the questionnaire sheets; one was for the food habit and the other was for health complaints. (the standarized questionnaire designated Todai Health Index.) The results obtained were as follows, 1) Mean score of the food habit was 10.99 in males and 12.17 in females. The balanced dietary intake was associated with the ideal body weight. 2) In males and females with low food habit score than in those with high food habit score, THI point in sufferings, digestive organs, straight-forwardness, depression and life irregularity were higher. In males with low food habit score, THI point in nervousness was higher. In females with low food habit score, THI point in respiratory organs was higher. On the contrary the male subjects with high food habit score showed higher THI point in vanity and the female subjects with high feed habit score shewed higher THI point in vanity and nervousness. 3) Persons living alone showed a high tendency to eating away from home and to having low score of food habit. 4) Persons with low food habit score showed a high tendency to eating instant foods and considered themselves having poor health status.

A Study on the Food Habit & The Health Responses of College Students to the Todai Health Index (대학생의 식습관과 건강상태에 관한 연구)

  • This study is intended to investigate the demographic characteristics and socio-economic status of students, and to reveal the correlations between food habit and health condition by Todai health Index. The results of this study were summerized as followes: 1) the sex ratio of the subjects was 309 males: 129 females. Mean score of the food habit was 7,56 in males and 8.88 in females. The subjects were included in Fair and Poor group generally. Food habit score of students living their own home were significantly higher generally. Food habit score of students living their own home were significantly higher than those of the others (Lodging & Relatives, Self-Boarding, Dormitory, and so forth). 2) In males and females, mean of height and weight were 171.6cm, 62.1kg and 159.9cm, 50.9kg, respectively. Though there was insignificant difference in the physical index according to food habit score in general, there was a special trend in case of male that the higher food habit score they have, the higher physical index they get. The subjects with low food habit score showed the higher THI point in Life-irregularity, Straight-forwardness, depression and Sufferings than those with high food habit score. The female subjects with high food habit score showed the lower THI point in depression, on the contrary, showed higher in vanity. There was significant correlation between instant food, drinking and smoking and THI point.

A Survey on Nutrition Attitude and Food Habit of Nationwide Middle School Student's Mothers (전국 중학생 어머니의 영양태도와 식습관에 관한 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide a baseline assessment and relationship of nutrition attitude and food habit among mothers of middle school students. Eighteen questions were developed to test nutrition attitude and food habit test was used to reflect dietary behavior. The questionnare was mailed to a representative sample of nationwide middle schools, and was asked to be answered by mothers of one class' students. Usable questionnares were recieved from 4,694 participants of 99 schools. The mean score of nutrition attitude was 65.9 out of minimum possible score 18 and maximum 90. Nutrition attitude was weaker in the areas of control and self-efficacy than in intention and outcome-expectation. The mean score of food habit was 38.6 out of minimum possible score 12 and maximum 60. Food habit was weaker in the areas of protein, vitamins & minerals and dietary fiber than in the other areas. Nutrition attitude and food habit scores were lower among rural, manually working, lower educated and low-income mothers. There was a significant correlation between nutrition attitude and food habit(r=0.37, p<0.001).

A Study on Dietary Status of Elderly Koreans with Ages (전북 일부지역(무주군) 노인의 연령에 따른 식생활 실태조사 연구)

  • Elderly Koreans living in Muju Gun, Jeonbuk were divided into two groups with ages(65~74 years old group & over 75 years old group) and surveyed with questionnaire to investigate their dietary status and those factors affected with ages. The score of food habit in both sexes showed a falling tendency as their ages increased. Compared with elderly men, elderly women showed lower quality of diet. Elderly Korean were more consumed cereals and green vegetables than milk, egg, meat & fish, seaweed and fats & oils. As education level increased, the food habit score showed a rising tendency. The correlation coefficient between the score of food habit and education level was positive in illiterate and school graduates. The score of food habit of living together with their family was higher than those of living alone or living with their spouse. As household income increased, the food habit score showed a rising tendency. In the case of self consciousness of socioeconomic status was middle, food habit score is higher than those of very low. Dental status of eldery people did not affect food habit score. Palatability showed no significant correlation with age. Elderly Koreans prefered sweet taste than salty, sour, and bitter taste.

Nutrition Knowledge, Food Habit Problems and Dietary Attitudes of Nursing Students (간호학 전공 대학생의 영양지식, 식생활 태도 및 식습관)

  • Purpose: This study investigates the relationship among nutrition knowledge, food habit problems and dietary attitudes in nursing students. Methods: A total of 856 nursing students participated in the study. Data was analyzed by frequencies, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple stepwise regressions via SPSS WIN 21.0. Results: The mean scores for nutrition knowledge and dietary attitudes were above average and the score related to food habit problems was high. Dietary attitudes correlated positively with nutrition knowledge, but dietary attitudes correlated negatively with food habit problems. Significant predictors of dietary attitudes included: food habit problems, interest in nutrition and health, exercise, and drinking. The regression model explained 16.4% of perceived dietary attitudes. Conclusion: To improve dietary attitudes among nursing students, nursing educators should develop nutritional educational intervention programs in order to promote nutrition knowledge and identify food habit problems.

Effects of Dietary Education on Elementary Children in After-school Program in Seoul (서울 일부 초등학교 방과 후 교실 아동을 위한 식생활교육의 효과)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of 10-week dietary education on elementary students in an after-school program in Seoul. Participants were 20 1-2 grade students and 283-6 grade students, and the dietary program consisted of dietary education and activities focused on children's levels of understanding. The results were as follows: Total participant's food habit scores and nutrition knowledge significantly increased (p<0.05) after dietary education. Food habit and nutrition knowledge scores of lower grade participants (grade) increased desirably (p<0.05). Meanwhile higher grade participants' (grade) food habit scores also changed (p<0.05), but their nutrition knowledge scores were changed. Boy's food habit scores significantly changed (p<0.05), whereas girl's food habit scores did not change significantly. Further, female participants' nutrition knowledge scores did not changesignificantly after education. Participants' obesity knowledge scores significantly changed after the education (p<0.05), but their attitudes on obesity increased insignificantly. Lower grade participants' attitudes on obesity significantly and desirably changed (p<0.05), whereas higher grade participants' attitudes on obesity changed insignificantly. Girl's knowledge and attitudes on obesity significantly and desirably changed (p<0.05-0.01). This study revealed the correlation between food habit scores and attitudes on obesity (p<0.01), demonstrating that participants with high food habit scores have advisable attitudes on obesity. The result of this study shows that lower grade participants' food habit scores, nutrition knowledge, and attitudes on obesity changed desirably after dietary education. Therefore, this study promote the development of adequate nutrition education and materials focused on lower grade students and the need for systematic and continuous dietary education programs based on elementary school.

Food Habit of Career Women (직장여성의 식습관에 관한 조사연구)

  • This study was carried out to describe the food habit. Five hundreds ten women working more than 6 months were chosen for samples among the residents in Seoul and Kyungki provinces. This survey was done by questionnaire from the 5th September to the 5th October 1996. The results was followed: 1. The average score of the food habit in the career women was 9.6 among the total score 20. 2. The food habit of the career women appeared worse to whom were younger, single, and having loss educational backgrounded and living apart from family. When the average score of food habit was compared between groups, nurses group was lower than the other group, and shift workers. 3. Education and guidance for appropriate diet and food habit will be considered as necessary for health of the working women.

Food Habits & Gastric Symptoms of Career Women (직장여성의 식습관과 위증상)

The average score of gastric symptom was 8.1 among the total score 30. 4. The average gastric symptom score of the career women was resulted in less high among the younger, single, technical college graduated and living separately from the family. In the group comparison, the nurse group showed higher score than teachers and shift worker group showed higher score than nonshift worker. 5. There were negative correlation between food habit and gastric symptom. From the research point of view, the food habit of career women resulted differently depending on their occupations and invidual characteristics. Therefore, education and guidence for appropriate ate diet and food habit will be considered as necessary for health of the working women.

A Study on a Relation of Food Ecology to Obesity Index of 5th Grade Children in Cheju City (II) -Obesity Index of Children and Food Habit of their Mothers- (제주시내 초등학교 5학년 어린이의 체격과 식생태에 관한 조사연구 (II) -어린이의 체격과 어머니의 식습관-)

  • This survey was conducted to investigate the relation of children's obesity index to their mothers' food habit during the October in 1995. The survey covered a total of 492 mothers whose children were in the fifth grade of elementary schools in Cheju City area. The results are summarized as follows: 1.The surveyed children's average WLI(Weight-Length Index) is 107.08. WLI shows that 16.1% of them are overweight, 16.1% obese and 49.8% ideally weighted. The mothers' average BMI(Body Mass Index) is 22.4. 21.8% of them are underweight and 69.4% normal. The children's obesity index is significantly correlated to their fathers', but not significant to their mothers'. 2.As to the food habit I (balance of nutrients intake), 58.4% of the mothers have 'excellent' or 'good' food habit and the mean score is 14.95 out of maximum possible score 24.0. Concerning to the food habit II (intake of sugar, fat and salt etc.), 87.4% of mothers have 'good' or 'fair' food habit and the mean score of is 13.34 out of maximum (possible score) 20.0. The mothers' food habit I and II, as a whole, have no significant effect on the children's obesity index, but in some items the significant relations are founded. The children's chesty index is significantly related to the intake of eggs (P<0.05) and pan-broiled or fried foods (P<0.05). The amount of mothers' food intake is significantly relevant to their obesity index (P<0.001), but not significantly to their children's. The food habit of mothers who have taken midnight snack almost every day are significantly related to their children's chesty index (P<0.05). The findings of the study emphasize the importance of the nutrition education to ensure health and better physical fitness for children and their mothers.

Health behavior and status associated with junk food consumption in adolescents: Data from the Korea youth risk behavior web-based survey (청소년건강행태온라인조사를 이용한 청소년의 정크푸드 섭취실태 및 건강행태와 건강수준)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate effects of soda, fast food, and ramen consumption on dietary habit and health behavior of adolescents and to investigate pathway of which junk food influencing health status. Methods: The findings of this study were based on the data obtained from the 2015 11th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey. The analysis was accomplished using structural equation model which was designed based on the ideas that junk food consumption affects health status not only directly but also indirectly through eating habit and health behavior. Results: The structural models of both sexes revealed that the more they consumed junk food, the more negative effects it had on eating habit and health behavior. In addition, junk food consumption had an negative influence on health status directly and indirectly through eating habit and health behavior. Conclusions: The study results imply that school health education regarding proper eating habit should be implemented and that related policies should be established since complex individual, social, and environmental factors contribute to adolescents' eating habit.
