  • Most O4I Systems are considered as one of the major system in future Information Warfare. However, it is difficult to measure the effectiveness of force improvement when C4I System is used with other weapon systems, quantitatively. In this Paper, we propose a quantitative method to evaluate the force improvement effectiveness of KNTDS(Korea Naval Tactical Data System). This method utilized the Lanchester's equations and its applications. We also showed a numerical example based on a given scenario in a sea battle and the ASP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) Method is applied to verify its results.

  • KJCCS(Korean Joint Command & Control System) is a system that integrate each military tactics C4ISR into JCS(Joint Chiefs of Staff) level. It is established in major CP(Commanding Post) and provides all battlefield situation in real time by sharing that between connection troops. The objective of this study is to suggest a way for the measurement of force improvement effectiveness of KJCCS. C2 model is applied to measure force improvement effectiveness of KJCCS. This study will be also present a requirement logic for C4ISR system acquisition later.

  • This paper develops a methodology that can be used to quantify the assesment of power improvement effectiveness of corps level C4I system applied to integrated fire operation by adapting Schuzer's C2 theory. This paper first describes how C4I systers can enhance the battle outcome in three way. : (1) Enhanced unit probability of survival; (2) Enhanced unit's individual effectiveness; improved exchange ratios; (3) Improved task force allocations : increased percentage of assets that can be assigned to a given engagement These enhancements are then show to result from improved probability of detection through information sharing; improved survivability and lethality through battle force coordination; and enhanced force allocation and prepositioning through improved timeliness of information(more advanced warning). It demonstrates that well-designed C4I systems can be shown to represent a significant force multiplier on the outcome of the battle.

  • This paper proposes a torque predictive control for dynamic performance improvement of clamping force in electro-mechanical brake (EMB) for railroad cars. In general, pneumatic braking system (PBS) is used for railroad cars. It is sensitive depending on environmental changes and it has increasing idle running time because of slow dynamic response. Additionally, the PBS has low braking efficiency in case braking torque more than standard value is applied to the brake system such as emergency braking. In order to overcome these disadvantages of the PBS, the EMB is used for the railroad cars. The EMB for railroad cars has advantages that increasing the fuel efficiency and design flexibility because it is able to decrease vehicle weight of railroad cars and secure space for design. In this paper, control method for dynamic performance improvement of clamping force in EMB for railroad car is proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed control method is verified by the simulation results.

  • Seismic isolation systems can improve the seismic safety of nuclear power plants by decreasing seismic force transmitted to structures and equipment. This study evaluates the effectiveness of equipment seismic isolation systems by the comparison of core damage frequencies in non-isolated and isolated cases. It can be found that the seismic isolation systems increase seismic capacity of nuclear equipment and decrease core damage frequencies significantly. The effect of equipment isolation is more significant in the PGA range of 0.3g to 0.5g.

  • A quantitative evaluation of postural balance training using a virtual reality bicycle system was performed. In the experiment, the effectiveness of virtual reality bicycle system on postural balance training was analyzed with four male subjects in their twenties. The parameters measured during cycling were cycling time, average velocity, number of times subject deviated from path, and weight shift. Those parameters were evaluated for the quantification of the extent of control. We also measured the parameters on postural control capability after 5th trial and 10th trial in a balance testing system with a force plate to find out the effectiveness of the training. In the balance test with force plate, it was found out that the weight shift was almost zero and the deviation from the target trace reduced significantly after the training with the virtual cycle. The result showed that the virtual bicycle system was an effective system as a rehabilitation training device.

  • Machinability improvement by the use of liquid nitrogen in cryogenic machining has been reported in various studies. This has been mostly attributed to the cooling effect of liquid nitrogen. However, No study has been found in discussion on whether liquid nitrogen possesses lubrication effect in cryogenic cutting. In machining tests, cryogenic machining reduced the force component in the feed direction, indicating that the chip slides on the tool rake face with lower friction. This study also found that the effectiveness of LN2 lubrication depends on the approach how LN2 is applied regarding cutting forces related.

  • Event detection in wireless sensor networks is a key requirement in many applications. Acoustic sensors are one of the most frequently used sensors for event detection in sensor networks, but they are sensitive and difficult to handle because they vary greatly depending on the environment and target characteristics of the sensor field. In this paper, we propose a learning-based improvement of CFAR algorithm for increasing node-level event detection performance in acoustic sensor networks, and verify the effectiveness of the designed algorithm by comparing and evaluating the event detection performance with other algorithms. Our experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm by increasing the detection accuracy by more than 45.16% by significantly reducing false positives by 7.97 times while slightly increasing the false negative compared to the existing algorithm.

  • Second step shot peening was applied on both smooth specimen and U-notch specimen in order to investigate the stress distribution and the improvement in fatigue strength. Various experiments and measurements such as rotary bending fatigue test and the measurement of compressive residual stress were performed. The results showed that the fatigue strength of second step shot peened specimens increased by 34 percent compared to that of unpeened ones. Compressive residual stress also considerably increased, which resulted in the increase of fatigue strength. finite element analysis showed that shot peening is effective in decreasing the bending stress by external force. The effectiveness of shot peening in reducing the compressive residual stress was anticipated by the superposition of the concentrated stress and the compressive residual stress.

  • The transitional zone between tunnel and earthwork is one of the most vulnerable areas site for railway lines and because of differential settlement due to different stiffness of each supporting layer, it has to conducted a maintenance work constantly. In this study, it is conducted to compare the effect of reinforcement by wheel load and displacement of the sleepers after existing sleepers are replaced with the large sleepers for 20m long in-field transitional zone. Also, numerical parametric study using multi-layer elastic method has been performed to compare rail force, settlement and stresses of ballast while varying size and space of the sleeper. The field test and numerical results show that replacing the large sleepers improves about 10% of total settlement and coefficient of wheel force than conventional sleepers. Effectiveness of improvement is about 9.3%, 4%, 14.5% for rail seat force, settlement of sleepers and ballast pressure respectively with size of sleepers.
