  • The link e daggregation between 10GbE switches requires an advanced framistribution method to be properly and efficiently applied. The fixed or dynamic frame distribution methods, formerly proposed, cannot fully utilize the aggregated links, where the receiving terminal only attaches to a pre-specified link among multiple physical links. A frame distribution method using padding is proposed for the link aggregation between 10GbE switches to solve this problem. We compared the performance of the proposed method with those of the static and dynamic frame distribution methods. As a result, the proposed method shows a better performance when the offered load is below 0.7 and the average length of the frames is longer than 954 bytes.

  • Recently, the matrix method has become almost universal tool to solve various engineering problems in conjunction with the rapid development of high speed electronic computers. The method also has been introduced to ship structure analysis in past few years. This paper treats a method to obtain an approximate solution for stress distribution in a web frame of oil tankers. The method is designed to use relatively small computer. The procedure consists of two steps. In the first step, the web frame is idealized to a plane frame of slender members as shown in Fig. 2. Then, the plane frame is analyzed with a matrix method to determine forces and moments in each members. In the second step, the original shape of the web frame is restored and any portion of the frame, in which the stress distribution is desired, is isolated as shown in Fig. 3. Then, again, a finite element method is used to determine the stress distribution in the isolated portion. In this work, IBM 1130 computer in the computation center, SUN has been used. A numerical example with scantlings of an actual ship is worked out to prove the validity of this method.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of vertical ground motion (VGM) on seismic behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) regular frame with construction joints, and determine more proper modeling method for cast-in-situ RC frame. The four-story RC frames in the regions of 7, 8 and 9 earthquake intensity were analyzed with nonlinear dynamic time-history method. Two different methods of ground motion input, horizontal ground motion (HGM) input only, VGM and HGM input simultaneously were performed. Seismic responses in terms of the maximum vertex displacement, the maximum inter-story drift distribution and the plastic hinge distribution were analyzed. The results show that VGM might increase or decrease the horizontal maximum vertex displacement depending on the value of axial load ratio of column. And it will increase the maximum inter-story drift and change its distribution. Finally, proper modeling method is proposed according to the distribution of plastic hinges, which is in well agreement with the actual earthquake damage.

  • Conventional aseismic design methods of reinforced concrete frame all but disregard the state of damage over the entire building frame. This paper presents an automated damage-contorlled design method, which aims for uniform damage distribution throughout the entire building frame, as measured by the individual mumber damage indexes. Three design parameters, namely the longitudinal steel ratio, the confinement steel ratio and the frame member depth, were studied for their influence on the frame responce to an earthquake. The usefulness of this design method is demonstrated with a four story example office building predicting the extent of structural damage.

  • In this paper, stress analyses using shell and solid elements on weld zone of railway bogie frame were performed. To calculate stress distribution on weld zone, a coupling model using shell and solid elements was suggested. For this purpose, we performed specimen analyses on T-type solid and shell model of T-type panels which were modeled using shell elements, solid elements and coupled elements, respectively. The result showed that the stress concentration at weld zone was occurred in solid model, but it didn't occur in shell model. And the stress distribution of coupled model was similar to that of solid model. Also, we applied the coupled modeling method on the analysis on weld zone of bogie frame. The stress distribution of coupled model showed much higher compared to that of shell only model. Therefore, the coupled model method is highly recommended for the stress analysis in weld zone of bogie frame.

  • To minimize the compliance of frame, a method to optimize the topology of bracing system in a frame is presented. The frame is first filled uniformly with a truss-like continuum, in which there are an infinite number of members. The frame and truss-like continuum are analysed by the finite element method altogether. By optimizing the distribution of members in the truss-like continuum over the whole design domain, the optimal bracing pattern is determined. As a result, the frame's lateral stiffness is enforced. Structural compliance and displacement are decreased greatly with a smaller increase in material volume. Since optimal bracing systems are described by the distribution field of members, rather than by elements, fewer elements are needed to establish the detailed structure. Furthermore, no numerical instability exists. Therefore it has high calculation effectiveness.

  • The present Structuralists have usually calculated the end Moment of Rigid-frame members by using the Moment Distribution Method, presented by Hardy Cross in 1930, on the Basis of Elastic Law. But this method is considered to be an unfinished solution in case of the moment condition, which the Non-Equilibrium distributed loads or the Horizontal Force acted upon it result in deflection. Hence, after finishing the calculation of stress by means of the Moment Distribution Method, the stress condition due to Horizontal Forces had to be corrected approximatly. However we can directly get the solution of Rigid-frame having sidesway not by above method but by the Moment Distribution computation. Consequently this method is regarded as a Perfect Moment Distribution Method. Here 1 present.

  • Present study is mainly concerned about the idea of innovative utilization of bamboo in modern construction. Owing to its compatible mechanical properties, a beneficial effect of its use in reinforced concrete (RC) frame infills has been observed. In this investigation, finite element analyses have been performed to examine the failure pattern and stress distribution pattern through the infills of a moment resisting RC frame. To validate the pragmatic use of bamboo reinforced components as infills, earthquake loading corresponding to Nepal earthquake had been considered. The analysis have revealed that introduction of bamboo in RC frames imparts more flexibility to the structure and hence may causes a ductile failure during high magnitude earthquakes like in Nepal. A more uniform stress distribution throughout the bamboo reinforced wall panels validates the practical feasibility of using bamboo reinforced concrete wall panels as a replacement of conventional brick masonry wall panels. A more detailed analysis of the results have shown the fact that stress concentration was more on the frame components in case of frame with brick masonry, contrary to the frame with bamboo reinforced concrete wall panels, in which, major stress dispersion was through wall panels leaving frame components subjected to smaller stresses. Thus an effective contribution of bamboo in dissipation of stresses generated during devastating seismic activity have been shown by these results which can be used to concrete the feasibility of using bamboo in modern construction.

  • Display devices are becoming increasingly important as an interface between humans and machines in the growing information society. In display devices, PDP (Plasma Display Panel) has many advantages in that it has wide screen, wide viewing angle and is light weight, thin. In PDP driving method, if the brightness of input image is high, applying the fixed sustain pulse to the PDP panel will raise the PDP power consumption and may damages the PDP panel. To overcome these problems, the Plasma AI driving method was introduced by the Matshushita co. in Japan. The Plasma AI driving module calculates the peak value and average value of 1 frame image and adjusts the gradation and sustain pulses for 1 frame sustain. In this paper, the proposed PDP driving module is based on the Plasma AI driving module. The proposed driving module calculates peak value and average value, and the brightness distribution of 1 frame image. Using brightness distribution, the proposed driving module divides 1 frame input image into 15 image patterns. For each image pattern, minimum sustain pulses and sub-frames are used for the brightness of 1 frame image and the sustain weight for 64, 128, 192 gradation is proposed. Therefore, the sustain power consumption can be reduced.
