습식클러치용 마찰재의 조성별 마찰특성에 관한 연구 (A study on the frictional characteristics of wet-clutch friction materials in accordance with compositions)

  • Wet-friction materials have been widely used for clutches and brakes of automotives over past several decades. In order to enhance its performance, its friction behaviour should be fully understood. It is, however, still not at hand and therefore an attempt was made to have some more understanding of friction behaviour of wet-friction materials. Measurements of coefficient of friction were made with the variation of lubricants, lub. temperature, sliding velocity, and contact pressure. In addition, the effects of both the viscosity of lubricants and the porosity of materials on the coefficient of friction were also investigated. It can be concluded that the coefficient of friction is decreased as the concentrations of the resin and inorganic fillers are increased, and it tends to decrease with the increase in the lubricant temperature and sliding velocity.

An analytical analysis of a single axially-loaded pile using a nonlinear softening model

  • The skin friction of a pile foundation is important and essential for its design and analysis. More attention has been given to the softening behaviour of skin friction of a pile. In this study, to investigate the load-transfer mechanism in such a case, an analytical solution using a nonlinear softening model was derived. Subsequently, a load test on the pile was performed to verify the newly developed analytical solution. The comparison between the analytical solution and test results showed a good agreement in terms of the axial force of the pile and the stress-strain relationship of the pile-soil interface. The softening behaviour of the skin friction can be simulated well when the pile is subjected to large loads; however, such behaviour is generally ignored by most existing analytical solutions. Finally, the effects of the initial shear modulus and the ratio of the residual skin friction to peak skin friction on the load-settlement curve of a pile were investigated by a parametric analysis.

  • Equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) is a convenient forming process to extrude material without substantial changes in the sample geometry and this deformation process gives rise to produce ultrafine grained materials. The properties of the materials are strongly dependent on the plastic deformation behaviour during ECAP. The major process variables during ECAP are 1) die geometries, such as a channel angle and coner angles, and 2) the processes variables, such as lubrication and deformation speed. In this study, the plastic deformation behaviour of materials during the ECAP has been theoretically analysed by the finite element method (FEM). The effect of the die friction on the plastic deformation behaviour during the pressing is discussed by means of FEM calculations.

  • The thermal behaviour of layerd solids, typified in practice by surface coated materials, is evaluated for the specific case of a fast moving heat source. This is intended to represent the particular instance of solids in sliding contact and the consequences of friction. The finite difference method has been utilised to establish the temperature distributions at the surface and also the sub-surface region for coating materials which are either less conductive or more conductive than the substrate to which they are attached. The effects of variation in layer thickness, and also the load, speed and friction coefficient, are evaluated.

해저터널 급속차폐를 위한 팽창구조체의 마찰거동에 대한 연구 (Friction behaviour of inflatable structure system to protect rapidly flooding damages in subsea tunnel)

  • 본 연구는 팽창구조체 설계에서 중요한 인자인 마찰계수의 결정에 대하여 중점을 두었다. 팽창구조체는 지중 구조물 의 시공 및 운영 시 발생되는 돌발용수 및 이상누수에 의한 사고들에 대비한 많은 가치가 있는 수동적 급속차폐시스템이다. 특히 해저터널에 있어서는 필수적이라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 팽창구조체를 구성하는 섬유재료의 상대적인 마찰거동에 대한 결과를 제시하였다. 이러한 마찰거동을 평가하기 위하여 마찰실험과 모형터널마찰실험을 실시하였다. 마찰시험으로부터 서로 다른 표면 조건에서 마찰계수를 결정하였으며, 이 결과로 얻어진 마찰계수는 실질적인 모형 미끄럼시험 결과를 통하여 분석 비교하였다. 이 들 결과로부터 터널과 팽창구조체 상호 마찰거동에 대하여 검토하였다. 이 연구 결과로부터 모형터널마찰실험으로부터 얻어진 마찰계수 값은 실내마찰시험으로부터 얻은 마찰계수 값보다 약 12%작게 나타났다.

  • A study on the dynamic response of single-storey steel frames equipped with a rotational friction damper is presented. Extensive testing was carried out for assessing the friction pad material, damper unit performance and foaled model frame response to lateral harmonics excitation. Numerical simulations based on non-linear time history analysis were used to evaluate the seismic behaviour of steel frames with rotational frictional damper. It Is demonstrated that using discrete friction dampers of proper parameters to link steel frame can reduce dynamic response significantly.

Simplified model to study the dynamic behaviour of a bolted joint and its self loosening

  • Bolted joints are essential elements of mechanical structures and metal constructions. Although their static behaviour is fairly well known, their dynamic behaviour due to shocks and vibrations has been less studied, because of the large size of the finite element models needed for a detailed simulation. This work presents four different simplified models suitable for studying the dynamic behaviour of an elementary bolted joint. Three of them include contact elements to allow sliding of the screw head and the nut on the assembled parts, and the last one allows rotation between screw and nut. A penalty approach based on the Coulomb friction model is used to model contact. The results show that these models effectively represent the dynamic behaviour, with different accuracy depending on the model details. The last model simulates the self loosening of a bolt subjected to transversal vibrations.

Friction Mechanisms of Silicon Wafer and Silicon Wafer Coated with Diamond-like Carbon Film and Two Monolayers

  • The friction behaviour of Si-wafer, diamond-like carbon (DLC) and two self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) namely dimethyldichlorosilane (DMDC) and diphenyl-dichlorosilane (DPDC) coated on Si-wafer was studied under loading conditions in milli-newton (mN) range. Experiments were performed using a ball-on-flat type reciprocating micro-tribo tester. Glass balls with various radii 0.25 mm, 0.5 mm and 1 mm were used. The applied normal load was in the range of 1.5 mN to 4.8 mN. Results showed that the friction increased with the applied normal load in the case of all the test materials. It was also observed that friction was affected by the ball size. Friction increased with the increase in the ball size in the case of Si-wafer. The SAMs also showed a similar trend, but had lower values of friction than those of Si-wafer In-terestingly, for DLC it was observed that friction decreased with the increase in the ball size. This distinct difference in the behavior of friction in DLC was attributed to the difference in the operating mechanism. It was observed that Si-wafer and DLC exhibited wear, whereas wear was absent in the SAMs. Observations showed that solid-solid adhesion was dominant in Si-wafer, while plowing in DLC. The wear in these two materials significantly Influenced their friction. In the case of SAMs their friction behaviour was largely influenced by the nature of their molecular chains.

$WS_2$ 고체윤활제의 마찰.마모 거동 (Tribological Behaviour of $WS_2$Solid Lubricant)

  • The $WS_2$ solid lubricant synthesized through the vapour phase transport method was coated on the commercial bearing steel (SUJ 2) substrate, and the tribological behaviour of the lubricant was investigated using a ball-on-disk type tester. The $WS_2$ powder was spray-coated at room temperature using compressed air, and the change of friction coefficient was examined in various conditions, i.e., specimen configuration, atmosphere (air and nitrogen), applied load and rotating speed. $WS_2$ coated ball and disk showed the optimum friction coefficient of 0.07 and wear life of 45,000 cycles in the nitrogen atmosphere under 0.3 kgf and 100 rpm, whereas relatively high coefficient of 0.13 and reduced wear life of 4,000 cycles were observed in air atmosphere. The effect of rotating speed on the friction coefficient was not observed both in nitrogen and in air atmospheres. This confirmed that the spray-coated $WS_2$ solid lubricant was effective in reducing the friction coefficient and improving wear life in nitrogen atmosphere, and the oxygen and moisture existing in air could seriously deteriorate the lubrication effect of $WS_2$ coating layer.

기발표 실측치 분석을 기반으로 한 3차원 유한요소해석 수행을 통한 부마찰에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Negative Skin Friction based on Measurements from Existing Works Analysed by 3D Finite Element Analyses)

  • 본 연구에서는 말뚝에 작용하는 부마찰과 관련된 원심모형실험 및 실규모 현장실험 등 기발표 자료에 대한 고등3차원 유한요소해석을 수행하였다. 이를 통해 기존연구에서는 충분히 고려되지 못했던 부마찰이 작용하는 말뚝의 거동 특성을 상세히 분석하였다. 즉 수치해석을 통해 기존연구에서는 고려하지 못했던 부마찰에 의한 말뚝의 침하와 군효과, 군말뚝에서 희생말뚝의 영향과 말뚝두부와 기초판 사이의 상호거동, 말뚝-인접지반의 경계면 요소(interface element)의 유무 및 시간 의존적인 부마찰의 발생특성 등 다양한 요소들을 분석할 수 있었다. 원심모형실험의 경우 중력가속도가 1g에서 특정한 값으로 증가하는 경우 흙의 자중 증가로 인해 말뚝에 비교적 큰 부마찰이 발생하는 것을 확인하였다. 군말뚝의 경우 희생말뚝 유무 및 말뚝두부와 기초판과의 연결여부에 따라 말뚝의 거동이 크게 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 부마찰은 압밀과 관련된 시간의존적 특성을 가지므로 압밀이 진행 중인 말뚝의 거동을 분석할 경우 압밀을 고려한 해석을 수행하는 것이 합리적인 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 일련의 고찰을 통하여 기존연구의 한계를 적절하게 보완하면서 부마찰을 받는 말뚝의 거동을 명확히 분석할 수 있었다.
