  • Lacquer sap extracted from lacquer trees exhibits good thermal stabilities and antimicrobial properties. To apply these superior properties to functional packaging, polyurushiol (YPUOH) powders were prepared and blended into LDPE (low density polyethylene) to prepare three different LDPE/YPUOH composite films via a twin screw extruder system. Their morphology, thermal and antimicrobial properties as well as barrier properties of the LDPE/YPUOH composite films were thoroughly investigated to find out applicablities of the films as functional packaging materials. Although the interfacial interaction between LDPE and YPUOH was relatively weak, LDPE/YPUOH composite films exhibited good dispersion of YPUOH in LDPE, resulting in the enhanced thermal stability with YPUOH loading. Due to the good antibacterial property of as-prepared YPUOH, LDPE/YUOH composite films also showed an excellent antibacterial activity (R) of 99.9% against E. coli. Furthermore, the moisture barrier property of LDPE/YPUOH composite films increased with increasing YPUOH contents. Incorporating the relatively low amount of YPUOH in LDPE resulted in the apparent enhancement in thermal stabilities, antibacterial and moisture barrier properties, which made them promising candidates as a functional filler for packaging materials.

  • We investigated that effects of annealing ambient on the characteristics of functional nano thin film synthesized on glass substrate. The functional nano thin films were annealed by using rapid thermal annealing (RTA) equipment in vacuum, oxygen and nitrogen ambient, respectively. The hardness of the functional nano thin films were measured by a standard hardness testing method (ASTM D3363) such as a H-9H, F, HB and B-6B pencil (Mitsubishi, Japan). Also, the adhesion of the functional nano thin films were measured by a standard adhesion testing method (ASTM D3359) using scotch tape (3M, Korea). The contact angle of the functional nano thin films was measured by a contact angle analyzer (Phoenix 300 Touch, S.E.O.). The optical property of functional nano thin films was measured via UV-visible spectroscopy (S-3100, Scinco).

  • We developed that the film fibers which was vacuum-metalized silver on the PET film played a part increasing durable on the alkali, antibiotic and another functional property. For this usage, PET film fibers with fine denier vacuum-metalized silver manufactured through changing the micro slitting machine's drive process.

  • 4-Vinylbenzyl maltohexaoside peracetate, 1, was copolymerized with divinylbenzene using the initiator for nitroxide-mediated living radical polymerization, 2, to afford the polystyrene microgel with acetyl maltohexaose, 3. The deacetylation of 3 was achieved by treatment with sodium methoxide in dry 1,4-dioxane to produce the polystyrene microgel with maltohexaose, 4. A good coating property of the polystyrene microgel was combined with an excellent hydrophilic property derived from maltohexaose. In addition, 4 showed the ability to solubilize fullerene in aqueous solution. Therefore, 4 has a potential application as a special coating using functional but incompatible compounds such as fullerene on the surface of various hydrophilic materials.

  • TLCP/polyester composite fibers (TPCFs) based on melt blends of PEN, PET, and TLCP were prepared by melt blending and spinning process to achieve high performance fibers. Reinforcement effect and TLCP fibrillar structure resulted in improvement of mechanical properties for TPCFs. The increase in the apparent crystallite size was attributed to the development of larger crystallites and more ordered crystalline structures in the annealed TPCFs. Molecular orientation was an important factor to determine mechanical property of TPCFs.

  • We construct polynomial-fitting interpolation rules to agree with a function f and its first derivative f' at equally spaced nodes on the interval of interest by introducing a linear functional with which we produce systems of linear equations. We also introduce a matrix whose determinant is not zero. Such a property makes it possible to solve the linear systems and then leads to a conclusion that the rules are uniquely determined for the nodes. An example is investigated to compare the rules with Hermite interpolating polynomials.

  • A Feynman functional formulation is given for the Global Positioning System, GPS. Both the sequential and analytic Feynman functionals are presented for the classical, exterior, gravity problems which included rigid body rotations, special relativity and some general relativity corrections. A mathematically rigorous approach is introduced whose solutions exist, are unique and which depend continuously on the intial data. This formulation is convergent and has the finite approximation property. It is emphasized that all of the problems studied are classical (not quantum) evolution systems.

  • Three kinds of acrylic polymers containing silk protein were synthesized, which are (1) blending of silk fibroin (SF) fiber and polyacrylonitrile (PAN); (2) graft-copolymer of PAN onto SFs; (3) random-copolymer synthesized by copolymerization of acrylonitrile (AN) and silk fibroin peptide (SFP) with vinyl groups, and their solubility, thermal property, and moisture absorption was investigated, respectively. These polymers have difference solubility and attributable to their structure. Their excellent thermal stabilities and better moisture absorptions were indicated.
