  • This study focused on experiments with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), which are functional additives for water-expandable rubber. Polychloroprene rubber (CR)/superabsorbent polymer (SAP) composites were prepared and their cure behaviors, mechanical properties, water absorption rates, and surface morphology were measured based on the functional additives applied. When PEG and GMA were applied to the composites, the water absorption rate increased-including the initial rate-compared to that measured when functional additives were not used. The results also show that PEG has a hydrophilic functional group, which allows it to absorb more water, and GMA acts as a coupling agent between CR and SAP. However, with the introduction of functional additives, the cure rate slowed down and the mechanical properties also decreased.

  • Bio-Green(B.G.) functional water was manufactured by Kyungwon Enterprise Co. through a series of processes ; water longrightarrow ultra-purification longrightarrow adding catalysts longrightarrow energy imprinting fermenting with energized water + zeolite and others + photosynthetic bacteria in fermenter longrightarrow filtering. Control(0), 5 or 10 liters of B.G. functional water were supplied to the orchard soil under canopy of 10 year old 'Tsugaru'/M26 apple trees on March 20, May 20 and June 20, 1995, respectively. Some orchard soil characteristics, not only pH, but also Ca and Mg of exchangeable cations were increased by supply with B.G. functional water. However, P$_2$O$_{5}$, K, and B contents were not influenced by the treatment. At harvest time soluble solid content of flesh and anthocyanin of fruit skin were increased by the treatment. B.G. functional water treatment showed higher root activities, and photosynthesis of leaves than that of control. Also B.G. functional water treatment showed higher Ca content in fruit skin and flesh tissues, whereas not affected N, K, and Mg contents. During storage at 4$^{\circ}C$ cold room, the more volume of B.G. functional water supply showed lower bitter pit symptom. Respiration and ethylene evolution in fruit were decreased, while fruit firmness increased by the treatment during storage.e.

  • To study the effect of functional water on the compressive strength of mortar, city water was changed to functional water through ceramics treatment. The change of characteristics of water was measured with $O^{17}$ NMR and Killian Camera. The compressive strength of mortar was measured with various curing conditions. The test results show that by the ceramics treatment the characteristics of city water was changed. At 28 days under curing condition, the compressive strength of mortar which was mix-proportioned with treated water was increased about 22 % than that of mortar which was mix-proportioned with untreated city water.

  • The effects of three different irrigating water qualities(clean water, life sewage and animal sewage) on the pattern of arthropod communities in the rice fields were investigated at Banwol, Kyonggi-do, mid-western part of Korea from 1994 to 1996. The total density of arthropod was highest in the rice field which was irrigated with clean water(clean water field), and the arthropod community was mainly composed of aphids and collembolans. Each functional group was found in the order of 'pests>non-pests>natural enemies' in its density. The dominant taxa in the pest group were aphids, planthoppers(Delphacidae), leafhoppers(Cicadelidae) and rice water weevil(L. oryzophilus). In the non-pest group collembolans, non-biting midges and dipterans were main arthropods, and in the natural enemy group Araneae was the dominant taxon. In the early growth stage of rice plant the dominant functional group was pests, and in the mid growth stage both the pest and the natural enemy group became dominant. But in the late growth stage none of the functional group was dominant over the other functional groups. The densities of spiders were much more higher in the clean water field than in the other fields. And through all the growth stages of rice plants the density of spiders in clean water field kept increase in contrast to the others. The species composition of spiders in the life sewage field was similar to that in the animal sewage field, but in the clean water field it was different from the other two fields.

  • The environment of the health food in the world has been changed very rapidly. The world market volume of functional drinks in 2012 will be estimated at $ 26.9 billion, and Asia-Pacific market is expected to be $ 13.6 billion. The domestic market volume of bottled water in 2008 was 440 billion won, and "Jeju Samdasu" sales was 89.1 billion won. But the brand of "Jeju Samdasu" has the limits. As a solution, the comprehensive advertising of the excellence quality of Jeju water is required. To increase the likelihood of success in development of functional and mixed drinks by the water is necessary to develop a global integrated brand. In developing the functional and mixed drinks by the water, we apply the functionality of the Jeju agricultural products actively, and connect Jeju Water industry with Jeju agricultural industry, which promote the overproduction control and the high value- added agricultural products.

  • Cerium oxide (ceria, CeO2) is one of the most wide-spread oxide supporting materials for the precious metal nanoparticle class of heterogeneous catalysts. Because ceria can store and release oxygen ions, it is an essential catalytic component for various oxidation reactions such as CO oxidation (2CO + O2 2CO2). Moreover, reduced ceria is known to be reactive for water activation, which is a critical step for activation of water-gas shift reaction (CO + H2O → H2 + CO2). Here, we apply van der Waals-corrected density functional theory (DFT) calculations combined with U correction to study the mechanism of water chemisorption on CeO2(111) surfaces. A stoichiometric CeO2(111) and a defected CeO2(111) surface showed different water adsorption chemistry, suggesting that defected CeO2 surfaces with oxygen vacancies are responsible for water binding and activation. An appropriate level of water-ceria chemisorption energy is deduced by vdW-corrected non-local correlation coupled with the optB86b exchange functional, whereas the conventional PBE functional describes weaker water-ceria interactions, which are insufficient to stabilize (chemisorb) water on the ceria surfaces.

Methods: It is focused on difference between changes of experimental before and after on 30 stroke patient's physical composition, body water and functional independence. Results: The obtained results are as follows ; 1. In the comparison of change in physical composition between the experimental group and control group, the between-subjects factors were not a significant difference. 2. In the comparison of change in body water between the experimental group and control group, the between-subjects factors were not a significant difference. 3. In the comparison of change in functional independence between the experimental group and control group, the between-subjects factors were a significant difference in 8 items and total FIM (p<0.01; p<0.05) but, were not a significant difference in 11 items. Conclusion: the neuromuscular re-eduction program was more effect then traditional intervention program in functional independence but, was not a significant difference in body composition and body water.

  • Thermal behaviors of water in the poly(acrylic acid) (PAA)/water mixtures with 0.1 M NaCl, HCl, and NaOH were investigated by DSC. It showed that adding ions in the mixtures affected the crystallization of water evidently. Compared with the PAA/water mixtures, the $T_m$ of freezable bound water in the mixtures with ions moved to lower values and varied with different cations and anions, due to the stabilization or destabilization of the hydrogen-bonding hydration between polymers and water molecules through ionic hydration. The content of non-freezable bound water in the non-crystalline phase of the PAA/water mixtures with ions was not constant, it increased with total water content gradually, owing to the more binding sites created by ions. The ions could change the distribution of different states of water in the polymer aqueous solutions evidently.
