The Influence of Factors Related to Preparation by Pre-Service Teachers for Gender Equity Education and Teaching Gender Equity

  • Gender equity education is ineffective in a public school system even though gender equity education is a current issue in South Korean education. One of the problems is attributed to teacher education because no better gender equity education can be accomplished without teacher preparation. Therefore, the effectiveness of teachers is a very important keyword in teacher education. This study examines learning experience, gender equity value, teacher preparation for gender equity education of pre-service teachers in Gonju, South Korea, the factors that influence teacher preparation for gender equity education, and the instruction of gender equity. A survey was delivered to pre-service teachers in 2008, and the data of 350 pre-service teachers were analyzed. MANOVA and Multiple Regressions were used for analyzing the data. The results will contribute to the development of effective teacher education for gender equity education and information on a partnership between the family and the public school system that is centered on gender equity education.

중학생의 성별과 양성평등의식 유형에 따른 기술·가정교과에 대한 태도 차이 (Influence of Middle School Students' Gender Type and Gender Equity Awareness on Attitudes toward Technology and Home Economics)

  • Technology and Home Economics are associated with gender-related roles. In this respect, students' attitude toward these subjects may be influenced by gender equity awareness with attitudes that may perpetuate gender-biased images of subjects. This study examined the influence of gender equity awareness of middle school students on attitudes toward Technology and Home Economics. Data were collected through a survey to 442 students from eight purposively sampled middle schools in Seoul. Three gender equity awareness groups were identified through a cluster analysis: Equity in house work group (n=163), Traditional gender role group (n=102), and Equity in all areas group (n=152). The analyses of variances enabled an examination of the effects of gender and gender equity awareness. Differences were found among gender and gender equity awareness groups on attitudes toward Home Economics, but not toward Technology. Girls showed higher preference, higher perceived usefulness than boys, but with a lower importance for career preparation for Home Economics. Traditional gender role group scored the lowest on usefulness and importance for everyday life, yet highest on importance for career preparation. Equity in all areas group perceived lowest importance of Home Economics for career preparation. The results show that Home Economics is more strongly gender-typed than Technology, and that effort is needed to change the gender-biased image of the subject.

중학교 가정과 교사와 기술과 교사의 양성평등의식과 양성평등교육 실천도 차이 (Differences of Gender Equity Education between the Home Economics and Technology in the Middle Schools - Focusing on Awareness of Gender Equity and the Degrees of Gender Equity Teaching Practice)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences of gender equity awareness and the degrees of gender equity teaching practices between the home economics teachers and technology teachers in the middle school. For the final analysis of the study. the data collected from 277 teachers (127 home economics and 150 technology teachers) of the middle schools in Kyong-gi Province were used. The framework for the awareness of gender equity has been modified from the study made in 1999 by Korean Institute for the Development of Women. A set of questions on gender equity teaching practice developed by Chung Hae-suk in 1998 has been modified for the study. Mean. standard deviation. percentage. t-test. Pearson correlation. and regression analysis were used to analyze the data utilizing the SAS Program. The findings of the study are as follows : 1) Both the home economics and the technology teachers show relatively above average in the awareness of gender equity. In comparing the two groups. the home economics teachers were higher in the awareness score than that of the technology teachers. 2) The impact of individual personality on the awareness appeares most significant in relations to gender of subject and teaching subject : moreover. the gender of teacher appears to explain the awareness of the gender equity more than the subject they teach. 3) Both the home economics and the technology teacher show relatively balanced teaching practices as far as gender equity is concerned. Between the two groups of teachers. home economics teachers score is higher in practicing gender equity in their teaching activities than the technology teachers. 4) The awareness of gender equity proves to be the most influential variable in their gender equity teaching practices.

고등학교 가정과"가족" 영역에서의 양성평등 수업지도안 개발 (Development of Gender Equity Instruction in Home Economics for the domain of Family Life in High School.)

  • This study was conducted with three objectives. First of all we tired to find a momentum to boost the value of home economics education as a fixture of the curriculum by analyzing the relation between gender equity education and Home Economics Education. On the other hand it suggests the need of gender equity education in Home Economics Education the related measures and some applicable course of study. And For the purpose of exemplification this study was developed gender equity instruction in Home Economics Education. The results are as follows: First the recent gender equity education in our education system can be interpreted as giving equal education opportunity and equal education objective. Therefore this kind of theory results in the education of Home Economics for both the male and female students. This results can be valued as boosting the availability of Home Economics Education and providing a stepping stone for Home Economics Education Development. Second the ultimate objective of Gender Equity Education is to cultivate a person to be equipped with Gender Equity concept and to implement the concept. Therefore Home Economics Education (Ministry of Education 1995) which has the ultimate objective of improving the quality of the individual and family life can be the most important curriculum for understanding the abstract concept of Gender Equity and providing various practical contents. Third the Gender Equity Education in Home Economics can be realized through the following measures:(1) The efforts to positively restructure the education contents after analysing and evaluating the education contents in terms of the Gender Equity concept. For the purpose of exemplification, this study was developed ‘Gender Equity Instruction in Home Economics Education. (2) The development and application of an interesting course of study for both the male an female students (3) Providing the proper teachers for the male students who want to choose Home Economics.

중국출신 결혼이주여성의 의사결정 공정성인식과 성역할태도가 부부관계만족도에 미치는 영향 (The effect of equity in decision-making and gender role attitudes on marital satisfaction of Chinese migrant women)

  • Objectives: This study examined the effects of perceived equity in decision-making and gender role attitudes on marital satisfaction among Chinese-Han and Korean-Chinese migrant women. Methods: Data were drawn from the 'National Survey on the Multi-Cultural Families in 2015' and 1,350 Chinese migrant women born after 1979 under the implementation of "one child policy" were selected. Chi-squared test, t-test, and multiple regression analysis were performed for analysis. Results: There were differences between Chinese-Han and Korean-Chinese in marital satisfaction and perceived equity in decision-making. For Chinese-Han, 'balanced group (perceived fairness in decision-making)' showed higher marital satisfaction than 'underbenefited group (husband is more dominant in decision-making)'. For Korean-Chinese, there was no significant difference between the groups. Conclusions: This study found how the perception of equity in decision-making would affect the quality of international marriage relationship. Especially, for Chinese-Han women, the equity plays an important role in marriage relationship.

가정과에 적용한 양성평등 수업이 고등학생의 남녀평등의식에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of Gender Equality Instruction in Home Economic class on the High School Students Consciousness of Gender Equality - focused on the Unit of Design of Home Life -)

  • 본 연구는 고등학교 가정과의 ${\ulcorner}$가정 생활의 설계${\lrcorner}$ 단원을 중심으로 실험수업을 실시하여 양성평등 수업이 고등학생의 남녀평등의식에 미치는 효과를 분석하여 양성평등의식 함양과 양성평등교육의 기초를 마련하고자 하였다. 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. ${\ulcorner}$가정 생활의 설계${\lrcorner}$ 단원에서 양성평등 수업 후 남녀평등의식의 가정생활영역, 학교생활영역, 직업생활영역, 사회문화생활영역 모두에서 실험집단이 비교집단보다 남녀평등의식이 더 높게 나타나 두 집단간에 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 2. ${\ulcorner}$가정 생활의 설계${\lrcorner}$ 단원에서 양성평등 수업 전과 후 실험집단의 남녀평등의식 사후검사가 사전검사보다 높게 나타나 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타난 반면 비교집단에서는 사전검사와 사후검사 간에 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 3. ${\ulcorner}$가정 생활의 설계${\lrcorner}$ 단원에서 양성평등 수업 후 남녀평등의식 전체에서 실험집단의 변화량이 비교집단의 변화량보다 높게 나타나 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 이상의 연구 결과로 볼 때 고등학교 가정과의 ${\ulcorner}$가정 생활의 설계${\lrcorner}$ 단원에서 실험집단에 적용한 양성평등 수업은 가정생황영역, 학교생활영역, 직업생황영역, 사회문화생황영역 4개 영역 모두 고등학생의 남녀평등의식을 높이는데 효과적이었다. 무의식 속에 내재되어 있는 성차별 의식이 짧은 기간에도 불구하고 효과가 있는 것으로 볼 때, 앞으로 지속적인 지도가 절실히 필요하다.

The Great Divide: How the Pandemic Widened Socioeconomic Inequalities

  • Purpose - The pandemic has magnified and deepened existing socioeconomic disparities, including healthcare, education, income, gender, and housing. This study aims to examine the intersectionality of these disparities and their implications for promoting equity and justice. Research design, data, and methodology - This study is a comprehensive review of the literature on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on socioeconomic disparities. The review includes empirical studies, policy reports, and academic articles on healthcare, education, income, gender, and housing disparities. Result - The pandemic has exposed significant disparities in healthcare, education, income, gender, and housing. Healthcare disparities have been highlighted, and there is a need for more equitable access to care and addressing social determinants of health. Educational and income disparities are closely linked, perpetuating cycles of poverty and inequality. Gender disparities have been exacerbated, with women experiencing disproportionate impacts on their health, well-being, and economic security. The pandemic has highlighted the need for safe, stable, and affordable housing. Conclusion - The pandemic has brought to light numerous socioeconomic disparities that require systemic change to address. Promoting equity and justice requires a comprehensive, long-term approach that addresses systemic factors and promotes social and economic equity. By taking action to address these issues, we can create a more just and equitable society that promotes the health and well-being of all its members.

둘째 출산 계획의 결정요인과 가족내 성 형평성 (A Study on the Relationship of Gender Equity within Family and Second Birth)

  • 이 글은 한국사회 가족내 성 형평성과 둘째 출산과의 관계를 경험적으로 분석함으로써 한국 사회 초저출산 현상에 대한 이해를 심화시키고 정책적 이론적 함의를 도출하고자 하는 데 연구목적이 있다. 이 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 2005년 한국보건사회연구원의 "전국 결혼 및 출산동향조사" 자료를 분석하여 조사 당시 한 자녀를 둔 20-34세 기혼 여성의 둘째 출산 계획에 대한 로짓분석을 실시하였다. 조사대상 516명 가운데 둘째 출산을 할 의향이 있는 여성들은 54.7%, 282명이었다. 분석결과 여성들의 둘째 출산 계획에 영향을 미치는 주요 변수는 '자녀 터울 조절'과 '원하는 자녀 구성' 등 가족주기상의 가족계획으로 나타났다. 총가구원수가 많을수록 (90% 유의도 수준), 첫째 자녀의 성이 여아일수록 둘째 출산에 긍정적인 태도를 보였다. 여성들의 둘째 출산 계획에, 가족내 부부의 '성 형평성 요인'은 기혼 취업 여성에게서만 의미 있는 요인으로 확인되었다. 기혼 취업 여성의 경우 남편의 가사노동시간이 증가할수록 둘째 출산에 더욱 적극적이었다. 그러나 전업주부의 경우 남편의 가사노동시간이나 가사분담률과 같은 부부간성 형평성 정도는 그들의 둘째 출산 계획에 아무런 영향도 미치지 않았다. 전업주부의 경우 둘째 출산 시기를 앞당김으로써 자녀양육기간을 단축하고 이후 재취업을 꾀하는 것으로 파악되었다. 결국 가족내 성 형평성 여부가 둘째 출산 계획에 직접 영향을 미치는 기혼취업여성이나 영향을 미치지 않는 전업주부여성 모두 일과 가족생활의 양립이 어려운 상황에서 개별적인 생애전략을 취하고 있으며 일 가족생활 양립을 위한 가족내 성 형평성 증대와 사회적 지원이 요구된다고 하겠다.

The Impact of Korean Professional Volleyball Teams Brand Personality on City Brand

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide fundamental information for professional sports and economy activation of cities, to explore mutual cooperative constructive relationship, and to investigate the Impact of Korean professional volleyball teams brand personality on city brand equity. Research design, data, and methodology: The study collected 500 survey responses and analyzed 478 surveys except for 22 which did not complete all items. For analyzing data, frequency, reliability, exploratory factor analysis, t-test, One-Way ANOVA, correlation, Multiple Regression were computed. Results: First, in difference in brand personality and city brand equity, due to gender, age, region of fan, significant difference were shown statistically in team image by gender, in honesty, interest and obdurability of brand personality by age, and in local community contribution, development possibility and sports facility of team image. Also, all factors show significant difference in region of fan. Second, regarding the impact of brand personality on city brand equity, honesty and capacity were shown to affect every factor of city brand equity, interest affected city image, and obdurability affected city perception. Conclusion: Professional teams need to develop win-win relationship with local community and seek to build positve image towards community fans via distinctive strategies for positioning.

양성평등 관념과 노동시장 불안정성이 출산력에 미치는 영향;지역별 차별출산력의 분석 (On Regional Fertility Differentials;Understanding the Causal Mechanisms of Low Fertility in Korea)

  • 이 논문은 제2차 출산력변천 이론을 바탕으로 지역의 차별출산력을 통해 한국의 저출산 인과구조를 확인하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 양성평등 관념, 노동시장 불안정성, 가족형성을 결정요인으로 저출산 인과구조의 분석모형을 구성하였다. 자료는 2005년 센서스와 동태통계, 2004년 사업체노동실태현황을 활용하였다. 이 논문은 GIS를 이용하여 주요 변수들의 구 $\cdot$$\cdot$ 군별 분포를 지도로 제시하였다. 그리고 한국의 저출산 인과구조에 대한 일반화된 설명을 위해 분산분석과 경로분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 양성평등 관념과 노동시장 불안정성은 가족형성과 출산력을 낮추는 부적관계를, 가족형성은 출산력을 높이는 정적관계를 갖는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 양성평등 관념과 노동시장 불안정성은 가족형성을 매개로 출산력에 직 $\cdot$ 간접적인 영향을 미치며 출산력 저하를 이끌고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 결론적으로 한국의 제2차 출산력변천에서 양성평등 관념은 전반적으로 중요한 역할을 수행하고 있으며, 노동시장 불안정성은 대도시 지역에서 초저출산 현상을 크게 가중시키고 있다고 할 수 있다.
