Today, carbon fibers are used as heating elements. Carbon fibers are generally used to reinforce composite materials because they are lightweight and have a high strength and modulus. Carbon fiber reinforced composite materials are used for aerospace, automobile, and wind turbine blade applications. This work explored the possibility of using carbon fiber reinforced composite materials as self heating materials. The temperatures of the carbon fiber reinforced composites were measured. These results verified that the carbon fiber reinforced composite materials could be used as heating elements. A glass fiber was laminated using various methods. The thermal characteristics of the composites were evaluated. This confirmed that the generation of heat varied according to the lamination thicknesses of the carbon fiber and glass fiber. As the number of carbon fiber laminations increased, the heat-generating temperature increased. In contrast, as the number of glass fiber laminations increased, the amount of heat decreased. The generation of heat and ability to remain warm could be controlled by controlling the carbon fiber and glass fiber laminations.

This study investigates the effect of fiber content on the fracture behavior of thermoplastic composites (glass fiber/polypropylene). The fiber contents used were 20%, 30%, and 40% by weight. Fracture tests were performed using compact tension (CT) specimens made of composite sheets of three fiber contents (20%, 30%, 40%). The results showed that compliance, fracture load, and fracture toughness were affected by the fiber content. The compliance decreased with fiber content while the fracture load increased as the fiber content increased. The fracture toughness also increased as fiber content increased. Specifically, the fracture toughness increased 14% as the fiber content increased from 20% to 40%.

There is several ways of recycling methods for waste FRP boats. The main one is mechanical recycling that is one of the simple and technically proven methods. It recently has been reported that FRP can be recycled by separating into laminated glass fiber layers instead of crushing into powder. Even though the mechanical recycling is a good way for the eligibility of laminated glass fiber reinforced material, the system should have another option which can collect resin of FRP. Because the resin is still very useful renewable energy source, that cannot be discarded, But FRP is made up of laminated glass fiber(roving cloth layer) which is fire retardant substances and very hard to break into each layer. Due to the high cost of fossil energy the waste plastics should be regenerated to the source of renewable energy. Laminated glass fiber which is recyclable in a very limited way, is currently a serious barrier to waste FRP boat regenerating. This study is to propose a new extracting method which is efficient and environment friendly FRP waste regenerating system. The recycled glass fiber which is obtained by the separation of the roving layer from FRP waste has been found to be useful for concrete(FRC) products or concrete(FRC) structures as fiber reinforced material. And it can be successively applied to renewable energy applications using the waste resins of FRP residue without laminated glass fiber.

We developed a fiber-optic CT for large current monitoring in power systems. We used a FRG fiber sensor coil to suppress CT output degradation caused by linear birefringence, and different optical sources were used to compare their noise characteristics. From the experiments, we obtained output variation less than $\pm$0.4(%) when the sensor coil suffered mechanical perturbations, and the ASE source showed -23(㏈) less noise in the output than singlemode laser diode.
To investigate the flexural behavior of real size RC beams strengthened with glass fiber sheets, 9 strengthened beams of real size are experimented and the results are compared with those of existing experimental studies. Experiments are considered glass fiber sheets, the number of fiber sheets, and the existence of U-wrap. By the results of experiments, the failure behavior and crack types of real size RC beams are almost equal to those of the small size RC beams, and the debonding and not the concrete cover delamination are occurred. It can be found from the load-deflection curves that as the number of fiber sheets is increased, the ductility of real size RC beam is more decreased than that of the small size RC beam. For the strengthening method with glass fiber sheets of the real size RC beams, it can be confirmed that the finding a solution to the bonding problem is required

In this study, a mixture of polypropylene fibers and glass fibers were used to weave polypropylene/glass fiber-reinforced composite panels with characteristics such as highly elongated short fibers, high ductility, anti-fouling, and hydrophobicity as a result of a directional property. Mechanical and environmental tests were carried out with specimens fabricated with this composite panel, and its applicability to shipbuilding and ocean leisure industries was evaluated through a comparison with existing glass fiber-reinforced composite materials. The results of this experiment verified the excellence of the polypropylene/glass-mixed woven fiber-reinforced composite material compared to the existing glass fiber-reinforced composite material. However, the forming process needs to be changed to improve the weak interfacial bonding, and the properties of the composite material itself could be improved through mixed weaving with other fibers after development. Maximizing of the advantages of the polypropylene fibers and overcoming their shortcomings will improve their applicability to the shipbuilding, ocean leisure, and other industries, and increase the value of polypropylene fibers in the composite material market.
The th ermal and optical properties of multicomponent oxide glass optical fiber by adding heavy metal oxide Ga$_{2}$O$_{3}$(0-20wt%) were investigated. The fiber samples were made by the method of rod in tube. The optical loss of fiber was measured in 0.3-1.8.mu.m wavelength region. As Ga$_{2}$O$_{3}$ increased up to 20wt%, the transition and softening temperature of bulk glass were increased from 495.deg. C to 579.deg. C and from 548.deg. C to 641.deg. C, respectively. Whereas the thermal expansion coefficient was decreased from 102 to 79.1x10$^{-7}$ /.deg. C. The refractive index was increased from 1.621 to 1.665, and IR cut-off wavelength was enlarged from 4.64.mu.m to 6.1.mu.m. The optical loss of fiber was remarkably decreased in 1.146.mu.m-1.8.mu.m wavelength region.

The main target of this research is investigating the relations between mechanical properties and injection conditions, like injection pressure, packing pressure and packing time for various contents ratio of glass fiber and resin. In general idea, high injection pressure produces high strength of molded parts as a monotonic function. but it was revealed that high pressure does not make high strength directly through various experiments of injection molding. In this experiments, PA66 was selected as resin and Glass Fiber was selected as reinforcing fiber Fiber reinforcement was controlled, as 14%, 25%, 33%, 44% of total volume and packing pressure was divided 55%, 65%, 75%, 85% of reference pressure, i.e. 100% equal to 1400kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. Finally, tensile testing was executed for injected test specimen. Optimum results based on authors' experiments have been obtained under conditions of 25% and 33% of glass fiber contents. Tensile strength rather depends on the packing pressure and packing time than injection pressure. Especially almost equal value of tensile strength was obtained for various percentage of packing and injection pressure as 65%, 75% and 85% of reference pressure.
In this study, we prepared glass fiber reinforced polypropylene composites using Brabender twin-screw extruder. Compatibilizer, polypropylene-based maleic anhydride (PP-g-MAH), was used to increase the molecular interaction between polypropylene matrix and glass fiber and to enhance melt processability. We also measured the shear and uniaxial elongational behaviors of glass-fiber reinforced composites in the absence or presence of compatibilizer. The effects of compatibilizer and fiber loading on the viscoelastic behaviors were examined. It was fuund that the PP-g-MAH compatibilizer improved the fluidity and increased the molecular bonding of composite melts in shear flow. Transient elongational viscosity was increased with fiber loadings in uniaxial elongational flow However, it was decreased with increasing elongational rates because of microscale shear flow between fibers.

A polarimetric fiber-optic CT has been developed by using a sensing coil made of a length of sun fiber. A Faraday rotator mirror is attached to the end of the sensor coil to double the sensitivity and to suppress the residual linear birefringence effect. From the current measurements, the linear error no more than ${\pm}2[%]$ was obtained. The output of spun fiber sensor coil was compared with those of the twisted- and the flint glass fiber's, and it fumed out to almost 50 times, 2 times more sensitive, respectively.
