  • A method to automate hazard analysis of chemical plants is proposed in this paper. The proposed system is composed of three knowledge bases - unit knowledge base, organizational knowledge base and material knowledge base, and three hazard analysis algorithms - deviation, malfunction and accident analysis algorithm. Hazard analysis inference procedure is developed based on the actual hazard analysis procedures and accident development sequence. The proposed algorithm can perform hazard analysis in two methods and represent all conceivable types of accidents using accident analysis algorithm. In addition, it provides intermediate steps in the accident propagation, and enables the analysis result to give a useful information to hazard assessment. The proposed method is successfully demonstrated by being applied to diammonium phosphate manufacturing process. A system to automate hazard analysis is developed by using the suggested method. The developed system is expected to be useful in finding the propagation path of a fault or the cause of a malfunction as it is capable to approach causes of faults and malfunctions simultaneously.

  • There are many kinds of complicated equipments in the chemical plants. So the chemical plants have high possibility of accidents. Hazard analysis is one of the basic tasks to ensure the safety of chemical plants. However, it has many shortcomings. To overcome the problems, there have been attempts to automate this work by utilizing computer technology, particularly knowledge-based technique. However, many of the past approaches are lacking in properties: safeguard consideration, accident diversity, cause and consequence diversity, pathway leading to accidents, and various hazard analysis reasoning. Therefore, in this study, three analysis algorithms were proposed using multimodel approach, and a hazard analysis system, AHA, was developed on G2. The case study was solved with AHA system successfully.

  • At present, there is a no rational MOE for evaluating hazard level at curve sections. Therefore, this study focus on developing the MOE and algorithm for hazard level at curve sections. The scopes of this study limited to rural two-way roads. Actual data used is accident, geometric features, safety facilities of the selected sites at curve sections. In order to develop MOE for hazard level at curve sections, accident contributing factors were classified by road geometry, visual guidance facility, speed and driver factor. A relationship between the four factors mentioned and accidents was conducted. And, the MOE for hazard level at curve sections was derived from the previous relationship analysis, and the algorithm for hazard level was developed. Finally, worksheets were suggested based on the MOE and algorithm for road designers. These developed MOE and algorithm can be used to reduce serious accident contributing factors when designing roads and also, these will be used to determine an order of priority when reconstructing roads.

  • In this study, we present the architecture design of data control system in water hazard information platform with analyzing the complexity of the data processing. Generally, data control systems in data collection and analysis platforms base on the constant data-algorithm data processing meaning that data processing between data and algorithm is fixed. But the number of data processing in data control system is rapidly increasing because of increasing of complexity of system. To hold down the number of data processing, dynamic data-algorithm data processing is able to be applied to data control system. After comparison each data-algorithm data processing method, we suggest design method of the data control system optimizing water hazard information platform.

  • Iran as one of the countries located on the Alpine-Himalayan seismic belt has recently experienced a few number of catastrophic earthquakes. A well-known index of how buildings are affected by earthquakes is through assessment of probable Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) and structures' response spectra. In this research, active faults around Kerman and Birjand, two major cities in eastern parts of Iran, have been considered. Seismic catalogues are gathered to categorize effects of surrounding faults on seismicity of the region. These catalogues were further refined with respect to time and space based on Knopoff-Gardner algorithm in order to increase statistical independency of events. Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis (PSHA) has been estimated for each of cities regarding 50, 100, 200 and 500 years of structures' effective life-span. These results subsequently have been compared with Deterministic Seismic Hazard Analysis (DSHA). It has been observed that DSHA not necessarily suggests upper bound of PSHA results. Furthermore, based on spectral Ground Motion Prediction Equations (GMPEs), Uniform Hazard Spectra (UHS) and spectral acceleration were provided for 2% and 10% levels of probability of exceedance. The results show that increasing source-to-site distance leads to spectral acceleration reduction regarding each fault. In addition, the spectral acceleration rate of variation would increase if the source-to-site distance decreases.

  • The choice of attenuation relationships is one of the most important parts of seismic hazard analysis as using a different attenuation relationship will cause significant differences in the final result, particularly in near distances. This problem is responsible for huge sensibilities of attenuation relationships which are used in seismic hazard analysis. For achieving this goal, attenuation relationships require a good compatibility with the target region. Many researchers have put substantial efforts in their studies of strong ground motion predictions, and each of them had an influence on the progress of attenuation relationships. In this study, two attenuation relationships are presented using seismic data of Mazandaran province in the north of Iran by Genetic Expression Programming (GEP) algorithm. Two site classifications of soil and rock were considered regarding the shear wave velocity of top 30 meters of site. The quantity of primary data was 93 records; 63 of them were recorded on rock and 30 of them recorded on soil. Due to the shortage of records, a regression technique had been used for increasing them. Through using this technique, 693 data had been created; 178 data for soil and 515 data for rock conditions. The Results of this study show the observed PGA values in the region have high correlation coefficients with the predicted values and can be used in seismic hazard analysis studies in the region.

  • This paper deals with a methodology for searching optimal route of hazard material (hazmat) vehicles. When we make a decision of hazmat optimal paths, there is a conflict between the public aspect which wants to minimize risk and the private aspect which has a goal of minimizing travel time. This paper presents Efficient Vector Labeling algorithm as a methodology for searching optimal path of hazmat transportation, which is intrinsically one of the multi-criteria decision making problems. The output of the presented algorithm is a set of Pareto optimal paths considering both risk and travel time at a time. Also, the proposed algorithm is able to identify non-dominated paths which are significantly different from each other in terms of links used. The proposed Efficient Vector Labeling algorithm are applied to test bed network and compared with the existing k-shortest path algorithm. Analysis of result shows that the proposed algorithm is more efficient and advantageous in searching reasonable alternative routes than the existing one.

  • This study is about the back analysis to optimize the uncertain parameters of geotechnical properties used in stability analysis of cut and cover tunnel. The Simplex algorithm, Powell algorithm, Rosenbrock algorithm, and Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm are applied for artificial problems of ground excavation. Furthermore, results are compared in the matter of the reliability of optimal solutions with a certain accuracy and the computation speed for evaluations of variables. As shown in results of numerical analysis, all of four algorithms are converged to exact solution satisfying the allowable criteria. And Levenberg-Marquardt's and Rosenbrock's algorithms are identified to be the more efficient methods in the evaluations of functions. After the back analysis for Poisson ratio and Young's modulus for cut and cover tunnel has been performed, design parameters have been correctly estimated and computation time has been improved while the number of measure points is increased.

  • This study presents an effective vision-based system for cable bridge damage detection. In theory, cable bridges need to be inspected the outer as well as the inner part. Starting from August 2010, a new research project supported by Korea Ministry of Land, Transportation Maritime Affairs(MLTM) was initiated focusing on the damage detection of cable system. In this study, only the surface damage detection algorithm based on a vision-based system will be focused on, an overview of the vision-based cable damage detection is given in Fig. 1. Basically, the algorithm combines the image enhancement technique with principal component analysis(PCA) to detect damage on cable surfaces. In more detail, the input image from a camera is processed with image enhancement technique to improve image quality, and then it is projected into PCA sub-space. Finally, the Mahalanobis square distance is used for pattern recognition. The algorithm was verified through laboratory tests on three types of cable surface. The algorithm gave very good results, and the next step of this study is to implement the algorithm for real cable bridges.
