  • The mechanism of the cycloaddition reaction between singlet state dichlorosilylene germylidene ($Cl_2Si=Ge:$) and acetone has been investigated with B3LYP/6-$31G^*$ and B3LYP/6-$31G^{**}$ method, from the potential energy profile, we predict that the reaction has one dominant reaction pathway. The presented rule of the reaction is that the two reactants firstly form a Si-heterocyclic four-membered ring germylene through the [2+2] cycloaddition reaction. Because of the 4p unoccupied orbital of Ge atom in the Si-heterocyclic four-membered ring germylene and the ${\pi}$ orbital of acetone forming a ${\pi}{\rightarrow}p$ donor-acceptor bond, the Si-heterocyclic four-membered ring germylene further combines with acetone to form an intermediate. Because the Ge atom in the intermediate hybridizes to an $sp^3$ hybrid orbital after the transition state, then, the intermediate isomerizes to spiro-heterocyclic ring compound involving Si and Ge (P4) via a transition state.

  • 2-Thiouracil-5-sulfonylchloride 1 reacted with a series of aromatic and heterocyclic amines to give 2a-j. The same compound 1 was reacted with a series of sulphonamides giving different sulphonamides of type 3a-e. On the other hand compound 1 was allowed to react with p-aminoacetophenone givining compound 4 which in turn was allowed to react with derivatives of alkyl thiosemicarbazides to give thiosemicarbazones of type 5a-e, also compound 4 was monobrominated to give compound 6 which in turn was reacted thiosemicarbazones of some aldehydes to give the corresponding thiazole derivatives 7a-f. In the same time compound 4 was reacted with a series of aromatic and heterocyclic aldehydes givining chalcones 8a-g (Claisen-Schemidt reaction). Also compound 4 was allowed to react with a series of aromatic and heterocyclic aldehydes, ethyl cyano acetate and/or malononitrile, and ammonium acetate giving pyridine derivatives 9a-d and 10a-e respectively. The biological effects of some of the new synthesized compounds was also investigated.

  • The angular and planar heterocyclic compounds containing nitrogen, sulfur and oxygen were synthesized by reaction of 6,7-dichloro-5,8-quinoxalinedione with aromatic and aliphatic dinucleophiles. Nucleophilic reactivity was somewhat different between 2,3-dichloro-1,4-naphthoquinone and 6,7-dichloro-5,8-quinolinedione with dinucleophiles. The distribution of electron in heterocycle appeared to contribute to this difference. The intercalation comple of planar heterocyclic compound between GC/GC base pairs showed the optimum intercalation but the intercalation of angular heterocyclic compound was not good. Thus, the planar compound was expected to have antitumor activity.

  • The $H_2Ge=Ge:$ and its derivatives ($X_2Ge=Ge:$, X = H, Me, F, Cl, Br, Ph, Ar${\ldots}{\ldots}$) is a new species. Its cycloaddition reactions is a new area for the study of germylene chemistry. The mechanism of the cycloaddition reaction between singlet state Cl2Ge=Ge: and formaldehyde has been investigated with CCSD(T)//MP2/$6-31G^*$ method. From the potential energy profile, it could be predicted that the reaction has only one dominant reaction pathway. The reaction rule presented is that the two reactants first form a fourmembered Ge-heterocyclic ring germylene through the [2+2] cycloaddition reaction. Because of the 4p unoccupied orbital of Ge: atom in the four-membered Ge-heterocyclic ring germylene and the ${\pi}$ orbital of formaldehyde forming a ${\pi}{\rightarrow}p$ donor-acceptor bond, the four-membered Ge-heterocyclic ring germylene further combines with formaldehyde to form an intermediate. Because the Ge: atom in intermediate hybridizes to an $sp^3$ hybrid orbital after transition state, then, intermediate isomerizes to a spiro-Ge-heterocyclic ring compound via a transition state. The research result indicates the laws of cycloaddition reaction between $H_2Ge=Ge:$ and formaldehyde, and laid the theory foundation of the cycloaddition reaction between $H_2Ge=Ge:$ and its derivatives ($X_2Ge=Ge:$, X = H, Me, F, Cl, Br, Ph, Ar${\ldots}{\ldots}$) and asymmetric ${\pi}$-bonded compounds, which is significant for the synthesis of small-ring and spiro-Ge-heterocyclic compounds. The study extends research area and enriches the research content of germylene chemistry.

  • Heterocyclic compounds with oxygen atoms are known to have potent biological effect. The flavonoids. isoflavonoids. and coumarins which form the bulk of these compounds are very polar and have limited use as drugs which have to pass through membranes. The non-polar property is increased by exchange oxygen to selenium as a part of heterocyclic compound. Our group is focused on synthesizing selenoheterocyclic compound with the above property. • The mechanism of the cycloaddition reaction of forming germanic bis-heterocyclic compound between singlet dimethylgermylene carbene and acetone has been investigated with CCSD(T)//B3LYP/6-$31G^*$ method. From the potential energy profile, it can be predicted that, this reaction has one dominant channel. The presented rule of this dominant channel is that the two reactants firstly form a four-membered ring carbene (RC4) through the [2+2] cycloaddition reaction. Due to $sp^2$ hybridization of carbene C atom in RC4, RC4 further combines with acetone to form a reactant complexe (RC5). Due to the further $sp^3$ hybridization of carbene C atom in RC4, RC5 isomerizes to a germanic bisheterocyclic compound (P6) via the transition state (TS5).

  • A modified synthetic approach to the synthesis of heterocyclic food mutagens, 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (PHIP) and 2-amino-1,6-dimethylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (DMIP) is reported. This route highlights an optimized palladium catalysed Buchwald cross-coupling of 2-halo-1-methyl-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine with benzophenoneimine followed by acidic hydrolysis to yield compound 7. Using finely tailored conditions, Suzuki cross-coupling reactions with highly efficient catalytic systems were performed as the final step on 8 to introduce the aryl group and methyl group on the heterocyclic core.

  • Trichloromethylphosphonyl dichloride was prepared by the aluminium chloride method. We synthesized several heterocyclic compounds containing phosphorus atom by the stepwise esterification of trichloromethylphosphonyl dichloride with ethylene glycol, 2-mercaptoethanol, ethylene diamine, and 2-aminoethanol and the resulting heterocyclic compounds are 2-trichloromethyl-1,3,2-dioxa-, 2-trichloromethyl-1,3,2-thioxa-, 2-trichloromethyl-1,3,2-diaza-, 2-trichloromethyl-1,3,2-diaza-, and 2-trichloromethyl-1,3,2-oxazaphospholane-2-oxide. The best results were obtained in the solution of triethylamine as hydrochloric acid trapping agent. The structure of five-membered heterocyclic phosphonates were characterized by their IR, NMR, and elementary analysis and the mass spectra of the compounds were analyzed.

  • The reduction of sulfur content in the diesel fuel has caused the poor lubricity of diesel fuel in the distributor type injection pumps of diesel engines that use the diesel for lubrication of their moving parts. To investigate the reason for poor lubricity of low sulfur diesel fuels, the wear scar diameters by HFRR (High Frequency Reciprocating Rig) were measured on the diesel fuels from Korean markets and the results were compared with their physical and chemical properties. Also, the lubricity change and the improvement effects on lubricity additives for the ultra low sulfur diesel fuel, were made experimentally, that will be regulated to a maximum of 0.005 wt% from about 2005 were evaluated. As a result, a good correlation was found between the wear scar diameter and the polyaromatic compound which includes heterocyclic compound in the diesel fuel. It was also found that the content of polyaromatic compound including heterocyclic compound was affected by the amount of desulfurization treatment fraction. And the lubricity additives with ester base were more effective than that with acid base on the ultra low sulfur diesel fuel. Therefore, it is suggested that the factors affecting the lubricity stated above should be taken into account to improve the lubricity property of the diesel fuel in the refining process.
