PIV를 이용한 Uni-flow 소기방식 프리피스톤 수소기관의 실린더내 유동가시화 (Flow visualization used PIV of hydrogen fueled free piston engine with uni-flow scavenging)

  • In order to improve scavenging performance of free piston hydrogen fueled engine, this study estimate compatibility of uni-flow scavenging. The scavenging flow characteristics in the cylinder is investigated by flow visualization and PIV method. Consequently it has been found that the scavenging performance decreased with abnormal expansion of piston and delay of the exhaust valve opening timing. And the scavenging performance of exhaust valve located center in cylinder head is better than that of exhaust valve located side in cylinder head.

  • The focus of this research is that the scavenging aspect of in-cylinder is visualized by the PIV method and its characteristic is analyzed so that the scavenging performance of the free piston hydrogen fueled engine can improve with loop scavenging. As the results, the piston of convex type shows the best scavenging performance among the presented pistons. In case of the abnormal expansion, the scavenging of area between cylinder head and cylinder wall doesn't operate well.

  • 민들레 잎과 뿌리로부터 물추출물을 제조하여 항산화 활성 및 라디칼 소거활성을 분석하기 위하여 linoleic acid에 대한 과산화물 생성저해율, DPPH radical에 대한 소거활성, chemiluminescence를 이용한 hydroxyl radical에 대한 소거활성, EPR을 이용한 superoxide anion radical에 대한 소거활성및 hydrogen peroxide에 대한 소거활성을 측정하였다. 그 결과, 민들레 잎의 물추출물이 뿌리의 물추출물 보다 지방산에 대한 과산화물 생성 저해율이 높았고, DPPH radical, hydroxyl radical, superoxide anion radical 및 hydrogen peroxide에 대한 소거활성 역시 매우 높은 것으로 나타났다.

  • In order to develop two-stroke free-piston hydrogen engine to obtain high thermal efficiency and low emission, backfire occurrence have to be prevented. In this research, backfire characteristics are analyzed as functions of the intake valve opening timing and compression chamber pressure under piston by using RICEM (Rapid Intake Compression Expansion Machine) that has reverse uni-flow scavenging. As the result, reverse uni-flow scavenging is advantage about back fire. but, it exists suitable intake valve opening timing and its timing become known that equivalence ratio 1 retard until the piston rises. Also, To rise chamber pressure of lower piston, this does not cause backfire occurs in equivalent ratio 0.6 observed back fire. Therefore, 2cycle hydrogen fueled free-piston engine is undesirable scavenging compression by compressing the piston.

  • For developing a two-stroke free-piston hydrogen engine with high efficiency and low emission, determination of the scavenging type is one of the most important factor. In this research, backfire characteristics for loop scavenging were analyzed with the number of piston crevice volume and piston expansion speed. Rapid Compression Expansion Machine, RCEM was used for combustion research of the free piston $H_2$ engine in the experiment. As the results, it was shown that although backfire occurring in a loop scavenging type can be partially controled by a complete exhaust of burned gas, possibility of backfire basically exist due to the structure which piston crevice volumes contact with fresh mixture in a scavenging port. However, a loop scavenging may be considered as combustion chamber of a free piston $H_2$ engine from the point of view that backfire does not occur nearby lean equivalence ratio obtained high thermal efficiency. It was also analyzed that an advances of backfire occurrence timing with increase of the fuel-air equivalence ratio were due to promotion of flame propagation into piston crevice volumes by decrease of the quenching distance.

  • Backfire characteristics for hydrogen fueled free piston engine with uni-flow scavenging is investigated with different stroke, exhaust vlave openning timing and fuel-air equivalence ratio by using RICEM (Rapid Intake Compression Expansion Machine) for combustion research of free piston engine. As results, it is found that backfire can be occurred due to slow combustion of unhomogeneous mixture in the piston crevice volume or/and in the cylinder near piston head. And the more stroke of free piston H2 engine with uni-flow scavenging is short the more opening timing of exhaust valve have to be advanced to control backfire.

SUPPRESSION OF HYDROGEN CONSUMING BACTERIA IN ANAEROBIC HYDROGEN FERMENTATION

  • Severe loss or hydrogen occurred in most anaerobic hydrogen fermentation reactors. Several selected methods were applied to suppress the consumption of hydrogen and increase the potential of production. As the first trial, pH shock was applied. The pH of reactor was dropped nearly to 3.0 by stopping alkalinity supply and on]y feeding glucose (5 g/L-d). As the pH was increase to $4.8{\pm}0.2,$ the degradation pathway was derived to solventogenesis resulting in disappearance of hydrogen in the headspace. In the aspect of bacterial community, methanogens weren't detected after 22 and 35 day, respectively. Even though, however, there was no methanogenic bacterium detected with fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH) method, hydrogen loss still occurred in the reactor showing a continuous increase of acetate when the pH was increased to $5.5{\pm}0.2$. This result was suggesting the possibility of the survival of spore fanning acetogenic bacteria enduring the severely acidic pH. As an alternative and additive method, nitrate was added in a batch experiment. It resulted in the increase of maximum hydrogen fraction from 29 (blank) to 61 % $(500\;mg\;NO_3/L)$. However, unfortunately, the loss of hydrogen occurred right after the depletion of nitrate by denitrification. In order to prevent the loss entangled with acetate formation, $CO_2$ scavenging in the headspace was applied to the hydrogen fermentation with heat-treated sludge since it was the primer of acetogenesis. As the $CO_2$ scavenging was applied, the maximum fraction of hydrogen was enhanced from 68 % to 87 %. And the loss of hydrogen could be protected effectively.

Antioxidative Activities of the Ethyl Acetate Fraction from Heated Onion (Allium cepa)

  • Heated onion juice was partitioned using the solvents hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and butanol. The ethyl acetate fraction showed the strongest scavenging effect on the ABTS radical. The antioxidant activities of the ethyl acetate fraction from raw and heated onion (120, 130, and $140^{\circ}C$) were evaluated using radical scavenging assays. Radical and nitrite scavenging activities were higher in heated onion than raw onion, and the higher the temperature of heat treatment, the greater the radical and nitrite scavenging activities. Heated onion ($140^{\circ}C$, 2 hr) was more effective than raw onion, having higher DPPH radical scavenging (5.7-fold), hydroxyl radical scavenging (6.4-fold), superoxide radical scavenging (2.3-fold), hydrogen peroxide scavenging (11.8-fold), and nitrite scavenging (4.3-fold) activities. Onion increased its physiologically active materials after heating, and in this regard, heated onion can be used as biological material for the manufacture of health foods and supplements.

평위산(平胃散) 약침액(藥鍼液)의 활성산소 및 활성질소 소거능 (Scavenging Property of Pyungwi-san Herbal-acupuncture Solution on ROS and RNS)

  • Pyungwi-san(PWS) have been using as a basic prescription of digestive disorder in Korean traditional medicine. This study was performed to examine the in vitro antioxidant activity of the extract using different antioxidant tests including by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazil (DPPH) radical scavenging, superoxide anion radical scavenging, metal chelating hydrogen peroxide scavenging, lipid peroxydation protective effect and scavenging effect of nitric oxide and peroxynitrite. Herbal-acupuncture solution of PWS(PWS-HS) exhibited a concentration-dependent inhibition of DPPH radical adduct formation and it showed dose-dependent free radical scavenging activity onto superoxide anions. In addition, the result of metal chelating hydrogen peroxide scavenging and ammonium thiocyanate experiments showed that PWS-HS was an active scavenger of hydroxyl radicals. Furthermore, it was also found to be effective in scavenging nitric oxide and peroxynitrite, well-known cytotoxic species that can oxidize several cellular components such as proteins, lipids and DNA.

수확시기별 제주재래종 감귤과피의 활성산소종 소거활성 (Reactive Oxygen Species Scavenging Activity of Jeju Native Citrus Peel during Maturation)

  • 제주재래종 감귤류 10종에 대해서 수확시기별 총 폴리페놀 함량과 활성산소종 소거활성 변화를 조사하였다. 총 폴리페놀 함량은 지각과 홍귤이 미숙과인 8월 하순과 9월 하순에 200 mg% 내외로 가장 높았고 대부분의 감귤종이 수확시기가 늦어질수록 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 수확시기별 감귤과피의 superoxide anion radical 소거활성은 홍귤과 지각에서 60% 이상으로 가장 높았고 사두감이 가장 낮은 활성을 보였으며 홍귤과 지각을 제외한 감귤류의 수확시기별 차이는 크지 않았다. Hydrogen peroxide 소거활성은 8월 하순에 사두감이 73.8%로 가장 높은 소거활성을 나타내었고 그 다음에 지각이 거의 70%의 소거활성을 보였으며, 대부분의 감귤종이 수확시기가 늦어질수록 감소하는 경향을 보였다. Hydroxy radical 소거활성은 대부분의 재래감귤종의 과피에서 비교적 높은 활성을 보였으며 지각과 당유자가 8월 하순에 각각 75.1%와 74.6%로 가장 높은 소거활성을 보였고, 그 외 감귤종도 60% 이상의 소거능을 보였으며 수확시기별 차이는 거의 없었다. 감귤이 성숙됨에 따라 hydrogen peroxide 소거능, superoxide anion 라디칼 소거능은 감소하는 경향을 보이나 nitric oxide 라디칼 소거활성은 증가하는 추세를 보였고, 병귤이 58.4%로 가장 활성이 높았으며 다른 활성산소종에서 활성이 높았던 사두감, 지각, 당유자가 활성이 가장 낮았다. 본 실험결과 제주재래종 감귤 중 특히 지각이 대부분의 활성산소종에 높은 소거활성을 보였으며, 이에 대한 구체적인 연구가 진행될 필요성이 있을 것으로 판단된다.
