  • This paper presents the implementation of two-arm modulation (TAM) technique for the independent control of a two-induction motor drive fed by a five-leg inverter (FLI). A carrier-based space vector pulse width modulation technique for TAM is proposed to generate switching signals for FLI. Two independent three-phase space vector modulators are utilized to control two motors. The motor drive system applies two separate indirect field-oriented control methods. The stationary voltage outputs from the vector control are synthesized in the three-phase space vector modulator to generate switching signals for FLI. The performance of the independent control of the motors and the voltage utilization factor are likewise analyzed. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method for the independent control of the two-motor drive system. The proposed technique is successfully validated by dSPACE DS1103 experimental work.

  • This study evaluated 26 elderly residents living independently in 4 group homes for their abilities in daily living and analyzed their behaviors of space occupancy and activities of daily living. The aim of the study was to identify the relationships between the physical environments of the group homes and the daily activities of the residents. The results of this study are summarized as follows. 1) Most residents in the group home considered bathing and cooking to be the most difficult of their living activities. The residents were categorized into "Independent," "Semi-dependent" and "Dependent" groups, on the basis of their ADL and IADL scores, and individual groups were examined. On ADL scorelt was shown, then, that 65.4% of the residents were was independent in ADL, but there was no any significant difference in IADL between the independent, semi-dependent and dependent groups. In addition, there was a difference in ADL and IADL among the groups. The independent group's residents were shown to be independent in ADL and IADL, whereas the but those of the semi-dependent and dependent groups' residents were lower in IADL than in ADL. 2) When their behaviors of space occupancy were examined, it appeared that the independent group showed a different space sharing pattern among individual residents, with a wide range of behavior of space occupancy. Meanwhile, The semi-dependent group mostly shared a common space with simple activities of daily living while no any service low leisure program was provided. However, the dependent group mainly consisted of residents who had a low level of independence in ADL and IADL, so that their behaviors of space occupancy were entirely negative.

  • A complete convergence theorem for arrays of rowwise independent random variables was proved by Sung, Volodin, and Hu [14]. In this paper, we extend this theorem to the Banach space without any geometric assumptions on the underlying Banach space. Our theorem also improves some known results from the literature.

  • Focusing on both the form of open classroom and that of independent one which have been most planned and being built, this study was designed to see if the educational environment of their inner space, structure, and facilities gives a proper support to classroom activities during the various classes based on open education. Selecting representative teaching methods in elementary school, such as open simultaneous learning, learning through a medium, learning in the corner, subject learning, team teaching and learning hardening basics, this study surveyed problems and improvements using literature works, questionnaires, observing, and interviews. Through the study on learning space for open education, it has been known that the form of independent classroom fits into one classroom learning and open classroom into small group learning and individual learning, and that the form of open classroom connecting open space with a classroom are more desirable when there is change from large to small group.

  • In this paper, under some suitable conditions, we study the Spitzer-type law of large numbers for the maximum of partial sums of independent and identically distributed random variables in upper expectation space. Some general results on necessary and sufficient conditions of the Spitzer-type law of large numbers for the maximum of partial sums of independent and identically distributed random variables under sublinear expectations are established, which extend the corresponding ones in classic probability space to the case of sub-linear expectation space.

  • In this paper, we establish complete convergence for sequences of extended independent random variables and arrays of rowwise extended independent random variables under sub-linear expectations in Peng's framework. The results obtained in this paper extend the corresponding ones of Baum and Katz [1] and Hu and Taylor [11] from classical probability space to sub-linear expectation space.

  • This study is including the independent project, "building children's library of the town" that is conducted by a local resident. The study object is the contents of the "design workshop for library planning" and the general process during one year since the opening. This study is delivering "information of children's library" through the work-shop and is conducting the role of a professional space planner by measuring the blueprint. Thus, the study could be conducted with synthetic viewpoint on each library. The followings are the results from the study. First, there were various space operations and a variety of programs in the case library that is independently managed. This is directing to "the constructive and active space usage" by the users and finally results in positive circulation. Secondly, there is a change through the process of execution and operation in the library construction plan. There are needs for the flexible space expansion and adjustment, modifiable furniture layout and design and various keeping areas because there is on-going tendency of corresponding space change. The third, the author could draw more practicable consideration points for space planning by looking at the trend of space change in Transactionist viewpoint. Thus, this study is very meaningful in terms of planning of sustainable public areas.

  • The fireplace has been inseparable from the wall. Therefore, the fireplace, which is independently revealed in the living room, is unusual and exceptional. According to the concept of "Served-Servant space" by Louis Kahn, "Servant space" is conceived as an inhabited thick wall and completely separated from "Served space." The fireplace is an apparent servant element, but in Fisher house, it is considered as the single, remarkable and major element composing the house. Paradoxically, this scene of the living room is in conflict with Kahn's ideas on "Servant space." This study sheds new light on the independent fireplace in the conflicting relationship and suggests the similarities with the contemporary cases-Le Corbusier & Philip Johnson-in terms of the stand-alone "Servant element." In the end, the independent fireplace of the Fisher house has transformed into an essential element of the house, as Kahn said that "I feel it[fireplace] represents the presence of a man and therefore is of home."

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the suitable illuminance model of an urban neighborhood park. To this end, 1 dependent variable and 11 independent variables were set, and multiple regression analysis was applied to find correlation between variables and the model. The results of this study are as follows; 1) Among 11 independent variables abstracted to study suitable illuminance model of an urban neighborhood park, as a result of analysis on correlation between suitable illuminance of a dependent variable and activity space by using dummy variables, activity type and illuminance by spaces the suitable illuminance required for an urban neighborhood park was much influenced by activity type, and the fact that the activity was not limited to a specific space. 2) As a result of multiple regression analysis, independent variables influencing the suitable illuminance model of an urban neighborhood park were activity space, illuminance by spaces, seated activity, standing activity, and sporting activity. And, for relative contribution of independent variables to suitable illuminance, activity with sporting showed an importance 22 times higher than seated activity. When the central square(Sp_1) of activity spaces was set to reference category using dummy variables, it showed a contribution 52 times higher than sorting space(Sp_7) and the central square as the most important variable. 3) It was analyzed that suitable illuminance of an urban neighborhood part was most influenced by sporting activity but the relative contribution of a sporting space where activity with sporting occurs was least in view of the function of the space. Very high illuminance is required to accept high activity, and if illuminance at a certain space becomes too high, it may influence the illuminance of other spaces, and may consequently have a negative effect on the suitable illuminance of an urban neighborhood park. The results of this study were mainly for teenagers and young adults in their twenties, so further concrete studies which consider gender and a wider age range are needed in the future. Based on subsequent study, suitable illuminance by spaces shall be suggested.

  • We reconstruct the expansion history of the universe using type Ia supernovae (SN Ia) in a manner independent of any cosmological model assumptions. To do so, we implement a nonparametric iterative smoothing method on the Joint Light-curve Analysis (JLA) data while exploring the SN Ia light-curve hyperparameter space by Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling. We test to see how the posteriors of these hyperparameters depend on cosmology, whether using different dark energy models or reconstructions shift these posteriors. Our constraints on the SN Ia light-curve hyperparameters from our model-independent analysis are very consistent with the constraints from using different parameterizations of the equation of state of dark energy, namely the flat ΛCDM cosmology, the Chevallier-Polarski-Linder model, and the Phenomenologically Emergent Dark Energy (PEDE) model. This implies that the distance moduli constructed from the JLA data are mostly independent of the cosmological models. We also studied that the possibility the light-curve parameters evolve with redshift and our results show consistency with no evolution. The reconstructed expansion history of the universe and dark energy properties also seem to be in good agreement with the expectations of the standard ΛCDM model. However, our results also indicate that the data still allow for considerable flexibility in the expansion history of the universe. This work is published in ApJ.
