  • This paper proposes an inextensible wire-shaped deformation model to simulate catheter behavior. The wire-shaped model consists of serially-connected mass points and massless rigid links. Torsional springs and dampers are employed to accommodate bending. Deformation is computed by updating the rotation angles from the global coordinates while maintaining the fixed length condition. Equations of motion is derived from double pendulum motion. Spring constant is computed using strain energy and potential energy stored in a torsional spring to reflect material property. Simulation is conducted to show deformation of wire model while maintaining inextensibility condition and including material properties. The proposed method guarantees inextensible constraint in the catheter simulation.

  • In practical applications play an new important role timelike biharmonic particle by Fermi-Walker derivative. In this article, we get a innovative interpretation about timelike biharmonic particle by means of Fermi-Walker derivative and parallelism in Heisenberg spacetime. With this new representation, we derive necessary and sufficient condition of the given particle to be the inextensible flow. Moreover, we provide several characterizations designed for this particles in Heisenberg spacetime.

  • The vibration analysis of the circular arch as a member of a structure has been an important subject of mechanics due to its various applications to many industrial fields. In particular, circular arches with variable cross section are widely used to optimize the distribution of weight and strength and to satisfy special architectural and functional requirements. The Generalized Differential Quadrature Method (GDQM) and Differential Transformation Method (DTM) were recently proposed by Shu and Zou, respectively. In this study, GDQM and DTM were applied to the vibration analysis of circular arches with variable cross section. The governing equations of motion for circular arches with variable cross section were derived. The concepts of Differential Transformation and Generalized Differential Quadrature were briefly introduced. The non-dimensionless natural frequencies of circular arches with variable cross section were obtained for various boundary conditions. The results obtained using these methods were compared with those of previous works. GDQM and DTM showed fast convergence, accuracy, efficiency, and validity in solving the vibration problem of circular arches with variable cross section.

  • A mathematical model for the dynamic analysis of a riser system with the inclusion of internal flow and nonlinear effects due to large structural displacements is developed to investigate the effect of internal flow on marine riser dynamics. The riser system accounts fir the nonlinear boundary conditions and includes a steady flow inside the pipe which is modeled as an extensible or inextensible. tubular beam subject to nonlinear three dimensional hydrodynamic loads such as current or wave excitation. Galerkin's finite element approximation and time incremental operator are implemented to derive the matrix equation of equilibrium for the finite element system and the extensibility or inextensibility condition is used to reduce degree of freedom of the system and the required computational time in the case of a nonlinear model. The algorithm is implemented to develop computer programs used in several numerical applications. The investigations of the effect of infernal flow on riser vibration due to current or wave loading are performed according to the change of various parameters such as top tension, internal flow velocity, current velocity, wave period, and so on. It is found that the effect of internal flow can be controlled by the increase of top tension. However, careful consideration has to be given in the design point particularly for the long riser under the harmonic loading such as waves. And it is also found that the consideration of nonlinear effects due to large structural displacements increases the effect of internal flow on riser dynamics.
