Application of Birefringence CAE in Mould Design of Optic Lens Injection Molding Process (광학렌즈 사출성형금형 설계에 있어서 CAE기술의 활용)

  • This study is focused on simulation technology in injection molding process for plastic optic lenses. The CAE program, $3D-TIMON^{TM}$ is used for the injection molding simulation with O-PET resin material. The design for different gate shape and runner layout has been under review by CAE simulation results. Moreover, the prediction of birefringence and polarized light in injection molded optic lenses has been tested by the CAE Program. The simulation results have been expected to effectively use in the design of injection molding mould.

  • Thermoplastic elastomer(TPE) can be molded by conventional injection molding. Therefore TPE injection molding could be analyzed by commercial flow analysis software. However there are a little of gaps on CAE simulation results and practical molding. In this study, the properties of TPE were measured and applied to CAE simulation for comparing the simulation flow pattern and real flow pattern. The pattern that was controlled by injection time was match. The pattern that was controlled by injection stroke and rate was not match.

  • The large injection molded parts technology such as instrument panel, front and rear bumper are presented for a precision molding. Some lead time and cost are required to product these part from design to mass product. Recently, CAE is widely used in product design, mold design and analysis of molding conditions to reduce time and cost. The optimal molding conditions can be obtained by DOE(Design of Experiment). The optimal design applications with CAE and DOE have been used in small molded parts. However, application to the large molded body is not reported. In this paper, optimization of injection molding process is studied for quality control in mass production of automobile bumper. Mold temperature difference is chosen through robust design of injection molding process, the molding process being optimized in term of shrinkage and deflection. The optimal conditions through DOE are validated by using injection molding analysis.

  • In order to predict the moldability of a injection molded part, a simulation of filling is needed. Short shot is one of the most frequent troubles encountered during injection molding process. The adjustment of process conditions is the most economic way to troubleshoot the problematic short shot in cost and time since the mold doesn't need to be modified at all. But it is difficult to adjust the process conditions appropriately in no times since it requires an empirical knowledge of injection molding. In this paper, the intelligent CAE system synergistically combines fuzzy-neural network (FNN) for heuristic knowledge with CAE programs for analytical knowledge. To evaluate the intelligent algorithms, a cellular phone flip has been chosen as a finite element model and filling analyses have been performed with a commercial CAE software. As the results, the intelligent CAE system drastically reduces the troubleshooting time of short shot in comparison with the experts' conventional methodology which is similar to the golden section search algorithm.

  • Large injection molds commonly have molding defects such as flashes and variation of product thickness. In this study, we conducted injection molding CAE analysis to find out the cavity pressure and structural analysis to find out mold deflection as input load conditions injection pressure obtained from injection molding analysis. As the results from CAE analysis, we found which element is the most effective on the mold deflection and we suggested a mold design to minimize the mold deflection.

  • In this paper, in order to improve the formability and quality of the injection molded parts in the molds for molding the motorcycle rear cowl injection molded parts with different volumes at the same time, the flow of the molded parts is changed through the injection molding CAE analysis by changing the gate position, runner size and position. It is to find the optimum gate position, the diameter of the runner and the position where the balance is equal. The molded article formed by the optimization resulted in the uniformity of the molten resin at the same time at the corner of the product, thereby maintaining the flow balance favorable for mass production at lower injection pressure.
