An Inductive-coupling Link with a Complementary Switching Transmitter and an Integrating Receiver

  • A transceiver for a high-speed inductive-coupling link is proposed. The bi-phase modulation (BPM) signaling scheme is used due to its good noise immunity. The transmitter utilizes a complementary switching method to remove glitches in transmitted data. To increase the timing margin on the receiver side, an integrating receiver with a pre-charging equalizer is employed. The proposed transceiver was implemented via a 130-nm CMOS process. The measured timing window for a $10^{-12}$ bit error rate (BER) at 1.8 Gb/s was 0.33 UI.

Current-Integrating DFE with Sub-UI ISI Cancellation for Multi-Drop Channels

  • This paper presents a half-rate current-integrating DFE receiver with sub-unit interval (sub-UI) inter-symbol interference (ISI) cancellation. By having a single additional DFE tap in each data path, the proposed DFE receiver can minimize BER degradation due to input pattern dependency and feedback tap latency problems in conventional current-integrating DFE receivers. The proposed DFE receiver was designed and fabricated in a 45 nm CMOS process, whose measurement results indicated that the BER bathtub width is increased from 0.235 UI to 0.315 UI (34% improvement) at $10^{-12}$ BER level.

  • 본 논문은 BPM 방식의 신호전송을 하는 인덕티브 커플링 링크에서 전송속도를 증가시키고 BER를 개선하는 방법에 대하여 기술하였다. 데이터가 전송될 때 발생하는 불필요한 glitch를 제거하기 위해 상보적으로 스위칭하는 송신기를 사용하였고, 수신된 데이터의 최적화를 위해 pre-distortion 개념을 도입하였다. 또한 고속 동작에서 샘플링 가능구간을 확보하기 위해 적분형 수신기를 사용하였고, 빠른 pre-charge를 위해 수신기 내부의 적분기와 비교기의 pre-charge 경로에 이퀄라이징 트랜지스터를 추가하였다. 0.13 um CMOS 공정을 사용하여 설계한 송수신회로는 1.2 V 인가전압에서 2.4 Gb/s의 전송속도를 가질 때 약 5.99 mW의 전력소모를 가진다.

TIM: A Trapdoor Hash Function-based Authentication Mechanism for Streaming Applications

  • Achieving efficient authentication is a crucial issue for stream data commonly seen in content delivery, peer-to-peer, and multicast/broadcast networks. Stream authentication mechanisms need to be operated efficiently at both sender-side and receiver-side at the same time because of the properties of stream data such as real-time and delay-sensitivity. Until now, many stream authentication mechanisms have been proposed, but they are not efficient enough to be used in stream applications where the efficiency for sender and receiver sides are required simultaneously since most of them could achieve one of either sender-side and receiver-side efficiency. In this paper, we propose an efficient stream authentication mechanism, so called TIM, by integrating Trapdoor Hash Function and Merkle Hash Tree. Our construction can support efficient streaming data processing at both sender-side and receiver-side at the same time differently from previously proposed other schemes. Through theoretical and experimental analysis, we show that TIM can provide enhanced performance at both sender and receiver sides compared with existing mechanisms. Furthermore, TIM provides an important feature for streaming authentication, the resilience against transmission loss, since each data block can be verified with authentication information contained in itself.

  • An attitude GPS receiver with 3 antennas obtains 3-dimensional attitude using GPS carrier phase measurement INS obtains the 3 dimensional navigation solution for IMU consisting of accelerometers and gyro. Ground-alignment process for the low -cost INS cannot be performed well due to the large sensor noise. Using the standard GPS receiver, however, continuous in-flight alignment for the INS becomes possible, and consequently, the errors in IMU sensors and navigation solution can be compensated.   • This letter presents a filter for a car navigation system integrating a low-grade inertial measurements unit (IMU) and a global positioning system receiver. The filter is designed according to the state variables to be estimated and the usable measurements. The usable measurements change from case to case, and the estimative state variables also change due to the measurements; therefore, multiple models must be used for real environmental maneuvers. In this letter, four models for land navigation are chosen and switched by rearranging the system matrix and resetting the error covariance matrices.

  • 셀룰러 네트워크에서 기지국의 과부하를 줄이고 주파수 부족 현상을 완화시킬 수 있는 D2D(Device-to-Device) 통신에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 하지만 셀룰러 네트워크의 상향링크 주파수 자원을 공유함으로써 상호간의 간섭은 증가하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 셀룰러와 D2D 사이의 간섭을 줄이기 위하여 새로운 하이브리드 수신기 FSC(Full Suppression Cancellation)를 제안한다. 제안한 수신기는 IRC(Interference Rejection Combining)와 SIC(Successive Interference Cancellation)를 결합하여 간섭을 억제 및 제거 할 수 있다. 시스템 레벨 시뮬레이션은 3GPP LTE-A 시스템의 20MHz 대역을 기반으로 이루어 졌으며, 시뮬레이션 결과 제안한 수신기를 통해 기존 수신기보다 SINR, 전송률 및 스펙트럼 효율 측면에서 성능 향상을 가져다주는 것을 확인하였다.

  • This study was conducted to develop a robust navigator which could be in positioning for precision farming through developing a plural GPS receiver with 4 sets of GPS antenna. In order to improve positioning accuracy by integrating GPS signals received simultaneously, the algorithm for processing plural GPS signal effectively was designed. Performance of the algorithm was tested using a simulation program and a fixed point on WGS 84 coordinates. Results of this study are aummarized as followings. 1. 4 sets of lower grade GPS receiver and signals were integrated by kalman filter algorithm and geometric algorithm to increase positioning accuracy of the data. 2. Prototype was composed of 4 sets of GPS receiver and INS components. All Star which manufactured by CMC, gyro compass made by KVH, ground speed sensor and integration S/W based on RTOS(Real Time Operating System)were used. 3. Integration algorithm was simulated by developed program which could generate random position error less then 10 m and tested with the prototype at a fixed position. 4. When navigation data was integrated by geometrical correction and kalman filter algorithm, estimated positioning erros were less then 0.6 m and 1.0 m respectively in simulation and fixed position tests.

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) and Visible Light Communication (VLC) is opening up new services in lighting industry by integrating sensory network features in addition to standard illumination functionality. In this progressive developments, the next generation lighting devices for smart homes are capable to sense the environmental conditions and transfer the captured data through lights to gateway controller to access remotely. The smart home environmental sensor information's are few kbps only so VLC systems need to built-in with low rate light connectivity to transfer data to the gateway. To provide error free communication, the quality of a received light signal is important to be considered when designing an VLC receiver. Therefore, this paper proposes the design of robust low rate IoL receiver design using NCP302 voltage detector for micro controller to adapt the IoT/IoL front end module for system integration. To evaluate the proposed system performance, the Arduino UNO based IoT/IoL controller designed with lighting, sensors and lights connectivity interfaces. The experimental result shows that the robust interference rejection is feasible on proposed VOL receiver and possible to have an error-free communication up to 10 kbps at a low SNR using OOK modulation.

INTEGRATION OF GPS AND PSEUDOLITE FOR SEAMLESS POSITIONING : Fundamental Verification Experiment and Results

  • The Global Positioning System, GPS technology has been widely used in positioning and attitude determination. It is well known that the accuracy, availability and reliability of the positioning results are heavily dependent on the number and geometric distribution of tracked GPS satellites. Because of this limitation, in some situations, such as in urban canyons, underground space or inside of buildings, it is really hard to navigate with GPS receiver. Therefore, in order to improve the performance of satellite-based positioning, the integration of GPS with the pseudolite technology has been proposed. With this pseudolite technology, it is expected that seamless positioning service can be provided in wider area without replacing existing GPS receivers. On the other hand, to adopt pseudolites at larger scale, it is necessary to verify how the pseudolites can complement the existing GPS-based positioning. In this paper the authors present the detail of experimental investigations and the results of the fundamental verification for seamless positioning using integration of GPS and pseudolite. This paper shows that the accuracy and efficiency of integrating GPS and pseudolite through the dynamic and static positioning experiment and discuss about the influence on GPS receiver by pseudolite signal. The experimental results indicate that the accuracy of the height component can indeed be significantly improved, to approximately the same level as the horizontal component.
