The Role of Professors' Intellectual Stimulation for Intellectual Growth among Chinese Students Who Study in Korea: The Moderating Effect of Growth Need Strength

  • Professor's role is one of various ways to improve students' academic achievement. Professors can be role models for students, motivate them to achieve higher performance, and have various influences on them. Therefore, depending on professor's role, students' attitudes and behaviors may be different, and their academic achievements may also be different. In this regard, this research focused on the intellectual growth that can be regarded as Chinese students' academic achievement. Thus, the importance of professor's intellectual stimulation behavior was emphasized and it was clarified as a way to improve the intellectual growth. Furthermore, students with a higher level of growth need strength, they are more likely to have higher intellectual growth because they put a premium on their self-growth. In order to increase the influence of professor's intellectual stimulation, we focused on the student's growth need strength. Thus, this research examined the moderating effect of growth need strength between intellectual stimulation and intellectual growth. The results showed that intellectual stimulation improved intellectual growth. In addition, growth need strength positively moderated the relationship between intellectual stimulation and intellectual growth. Therefore, it suggested the implications that professors should behave appropriate behavior according to students' personal characteristics.

아동의 지적능력과 환경변인 간의 인과 모형 분석 (Analysis of a Causal Model about the Relationship of Environmental Variables to Children's Intellectual Ability)

  • This study examined the characteristics of the relationship of home environment variables and children's intellectual ability. Two studies were conducted: Study I examined the predictability of home environment variables for children's intellectual ability by children's age and the correlations between environment variables and children's intellectual ability. Study II investigated causal relationships among the variables which are supposed to affect children's intellectual ability. The subjects of this study were 240 children at age four, six and eight attending nursery schools, kindergartens and elementary schools and their mothers. Instruments included the Inventory of Home Stimulation (HOME), inventory of sociodemographic variables, and the K-Binet scale. The results obtained from this study were as follows: 1) Home environment variables had a significant positive correlation (.36 ~ .78) with children's intellectual ability. 2) The home environmental variables that significantly predicted children's intellectual ability differed according to children's age. That is, play materials, breadth of experience, and quality of language environment were predictive of children's intellectual ability at age four, while parent's education, developmental stimulation, and play materials were predictive at age six. Economic status of the home, need gratification, avoidance of restriction, and emotional climate were predictive at age eight. 3) The causal model of home environment affecting children's intellectual ability was formulated by exogenous variables (parent education and economic status of the home) and by endogenous variables (direct stimulation, indirect stimulation and the emotional climate of the home). 4) The results of the analysis of the causal model showed that the kind of variables that affected children's intellectual ability directly differed according to children's age. That is, direct stimulation and parent's education affected children's intellectual ability directly at age four and six, while the economic status of the home and indirect stimulation affected intellectual ability directly at age eight. The amount of variance that explained children's intellectual ability increased with increase in children's age.

  • This study examined the characteristics of the relationship of HOME, socio-demographic variables and children's intellectual and social abilities. The subjects of this study were 80 children at age four and their mothers. Instruments included inventory of home stimulation (HOME) and the inventory of socio-demographic variables and K-Binet scale, social naturation scale, and the social-emotional developmental rating scale. The results obtained from this study were as follows: 1. HOME, socio-demographic variables had a significant positive correlation (.37∼..66) with children's intellectual ability. 2. HOME, Socio-demographic variables had a significant positive correlation(.26∼..67) with children's social ability. 3. The variables that significantly predicted children's intellectual ability were play materials, breadth of experience and quality of langage environment. 4. The variables that significantly predicted children's social ability were play materials, economic status of the home and parent education. 5. The results of the causal model showed that the kind of variables that affected children's intellectual ability directly were direct stimulation, parent's education, indirect stimulation, and the emotional climate of the home. 6. The results of the analysis of the causal model showed that the kind of variables that affected children's social ability directly were direct stimulation, parent's education, economic status of the home.

청각자극 증가에 따른 지적장애인의 심박수와 손 기능, 건강관련 삶의 질의 변화 (The Changes of the Heart Rate, Hand Function, and Health related Quality of Life of the People with Intellectual Disability through the Increase of the Auditory Stimulation)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 청각자극 증가에 따른 지적장애인의 심박수, 손 기능과 건강관련 삶의 질의 변화를 분석하는데 있다. 연구대상은 지적장애인 16명이다. 청각자극 중가는 음악의 볼륨을 통해 조절되었고, 60dB, 65dB, 70dB로 자극의 강도를 증가시켜 적용하였다. 청각자극 증가에 따라 Xeno 손목형 심박수와 혈압 측정기(LHY Health, Co., China)를 활용하여 심박수를 측정하였다. 손 기능의 측정은 퍼듀 페그보드를 활용하여 손 기능을 측정하였다. 건강관련 삶의 질은 Short-form 8 health survey를 활용하여 평가하였다. 연구결과 청각자극 증가에 따라 심박수가 지속적으로 증가하였으며, 손 기능도 지속적으로 감소하였다. 건강관련 살의 질은 청각자극 적용 후 감소하였다. 이에 청각자극 증가에 따른 심막수와 손 기능, 건강관련 삶의 질의 변화가 나타났다. 본 연구결과에 의하여, 청각자극 증가는 지적장애인의 심리적 불편감으로 작용하게 되어 심박수를 증가시키며, 손 기능과 건강관련 삶의 질을 감소시키는 데 작용하게 된다. 따라서 지적장애인의 심박수의 감소와 손 기능, 건강관련 삶의 질의 향상을 위해 환경자극에서 청각자극 강도를 고려해야 할 것이다.

벤처기업 창업자의 리더십 영향력에 대한 마음챙김의 상호작용 효과 (Mindfulness' interaction effect of the Influence of Entrepreneur's Leadership of Venture Firm)

  • 벤처기업에 관한 연구는 주로 창업자의 특성 및 벤처기업의 성과에 대한 연구 등이 주를 이루어 왔지만 리더십에 관한 연구는 미비한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 벤처기업 창업자의 변혁적 리더십이 구성원의 태도에 미치는 영향과 창업자의 리더십과 마음챙김의 상호작용 효과를 분석하고자 하였다. 이 연구를 위해 48개 회사의 172명의 구성원으로부터 얻은 데이터를 사용하였으며, 분석을 위해 SPSS와 AMOS 통계패키지를 활용하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 변혁적 리더십이 리더신뢰에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과 카리스마, 개인배려, 지적자극 모두 리더신뢰에 영향력을 나타나는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 리더신뢰가 조직 냉소주의에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과 리더신뢰는 조직 냉소주의에 부정적인 영향력을 나타냈다. 셋째, 리더신뢰가 조직몰입에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과 리더신뢰는 조직몰입을 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 마음챙김과 변혁적 리더십의 조절효과를 살펴본 결과 카리스마, 개인배려와 마음챙김의 조절효과가 확인되었으나 지적자극과 마음챙김의 조절효과는 나타나지 않았다.

간호 관리자의 변혁적, 거래적 리더십과 관련변인과의 관계 (The Relationship Between Leadership Styles of Nurse Managers and Related Variables)

  • The Purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between leadership style of nurse managers and related variables and to provide the basic data for developing strategies of transformational, transactional leadership study. The subjects were 300 nurses and 10 head nurses were working at the 2 general hospitals in seoul. The data were collected from July 6 to July 14, 2001 by the structured questionnaires. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression with SAS package were used. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The score of the nurse managers' transformational leadership perceived by surbodinates' were higher than that of the nurse managers' transactional leadership. Among 5 subdimensions of the leadership styles perceived by surbodinates', the scores of 'charisma' and 'intellectual stimulation' were highest and 'management by exception' were lowest. 2. 'charisma' 'intellectual stimulation', 'individual consideration' and 'contingent reward' were positively related to all of variables except 'turnover intention'. 'Management by exception' was negatively related to all of variables and was positively related to 'turnover intention'. 3. As a result of regression analysis, leadership styles effect on 'leadership effectiveness', 'turnover intention', 'job satisfaction', 'empowerment', 'organizational commitment', 'autonomy', 'job involvement' in turn. The determinants of 'job satisfaction', 'autonomy', 'leadership effectiveness' were 'charisma' of transformational leadership and the determinants of 'organizational commitment', 'job involvement', 'empowerment' were 'intellectual stimulation' of transformational leadership.

협동조합 조합장의 변혁적 리더십과 성과의 관계 및 사내기업가정신의 매개효과 (The relationship between CEO's transformational leadership and performance, and the mediating effect of corporate entrepreneurship in cooperative)

  • The purpose of this study is to review the relationship between CEO's transformational leadership and performance, and the mediating effect of corporate entrepreneurship in entrepreneurs' cooperative. In order to verify and achieve the purposes mentioned above, questionnaire data were gathered and analysed from 379 employees of entrepreneurs' cooperative in Kangwon-do province. Empirical survey's findings are as follows; First, charisma and individual consideration appeared to be positively related with risk-taking and proactiveness. Also, intellectual stimulation appeared to be positively related with proactiveness only. Second, charisma and individual consideration appeared to be positively related with sales volume and employment increase, but intellectual stimulation appeared to be positively related with employment increase only. Third, corporate entrepreneurship(risk-taking, proactiveness) appeared to be positively related with sales volume and employment increase. Fourth, corporate entrepreneurship(risk-taking, proactiveness) had mediating effect on the relationship between CEO's transformational leadership and performance. But, intellectual stimulation had not mediating effect.

Perceived Leadership Style of Korean Dietitians : Focusing on the Transformational and Transactional Leadership Styles

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the transformational or transactional leadership styles of Korean dietitians. The study was completed with Korean dietitians (n = 268, $67\%$ response) using mail survey. The leadership styles were divided into transformational (including charisma, intellectual stimulation, individualized consideration) and transactional (contingent reward, management by exception) leadership found in the several literature. Overall, the score of Korean dietitians' transactional leadership was higher than that of the transformational leadership (p < .05). Among three sub-dimensions of the transformational leadership styles, the score of 'individualized consideration' was higher than 'charisma' and 'intellectual stimulation'. Between two sub-dimensions of the transactional leadership styles, Korean dietitians used more 'management-by-exception' than 'contingent reward'. ANOVA results suggested that the transformational leadership was more likely to be used by the younger dietitians, while the transactional leadership was more likely to be used by the older dietitians (p < .05). Data showed that dietitians having 3-6 year dietetic experience used more transformational leadership than other experienced dietitians (p < .05). It was also found that the Korean dietitians' leadership styles were influenced by the type of dietetic practice area. Data showed that 'charisma', 'intellectual stimulation', 'individualized consideration' and 'contingent reward' were more likely to be used by Korean dietitians from school than by dietitians from health. care and industry (p < .05). This study will be useful for dietitians to guide the application of appropriate leadership style in order to increase employees' job satisfaction as well as organizational performance. 변혁적 리더십과 안전참여의 관계에서 안전동기의 매개효과 (The mediating effect of safety motivation on the relationship between transformational leadership and safety participation)

  • This paper reviewed the relationship among safety-specific transformational leadership, safety motivation, and safety participation, and the mediating effect of safety motivation between transformational leadership and safety participation. Based on the responses from 233 employees, the results of multiple regression analysis appeared as follow; 1) charisma, individual consideration, intellectual stimulation, and inspiration effect positively on safety motivation. 2) safety motivation effects positively on safety participation. 3) safety motivation mediates fully between charisma/inspirationand safety participation. 4) safety motivation mediates partly between individual consideration/intellectual stimulation and safety participation.

변혁적 리더십의 하위요인이 혁신행동에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 : 직무열의의 매개효과를 중심으로 (The Effect of Transformational Leadership's Sub-factors on Innovative Behavior :The Mediating Effect of Job Engagement)

  • 변혁적 리더십은 조직 구성원의 혁신행동을 이끌어낼 수 있는 효과적인 직무자원이다. 본 연구에서는 매개요인 등을 고려하여 혁신행동이 지속되는 매커니즘을 확인하고자 변혁적 리더십의 하위요인과 조직 구성원의 혁신행동의 인과관계를 검증하고 이들 관계에서 직무열의의 매개역할을 규명하고자 한다. 본 연구는 공공 및 민간기업에서 혁신행동과 관련성이 높은 직군에 속하는 671명을 대상으로 설문을 실시하였으며, 선행연구를 바탕으로 수립된 가설을 검증하기 위해 구조방정식과 매개분석을 활용하였다. 분석결과 변혁적 리더십의 하위요인인 카리스마와 지적 자극은 직무열의를 통해 혁신행동에 영향을 미치는 것으로 검증되었다. 연구결과를 토대로 기업이 구성원의 혁신행동을 발현할 수 있도록 변혁적 리더의 특성 중 카리스마와 지적자극의 요인을 겸비한 리더를 선정하고 더불어 직무열의를 통해 혁신행동을 높여줄 수 있는 측정도구를 적절하게 활용할 필요가 있음을 실무적으로 시사한다.
