  • The successful performance of any numerical geotechnical simulation depends on the accuracy and efficiency of the numerical implementation of constitutive model used to simulate the stress-strain (constitutive) response of the soil. The corner stone of the numerical implementation of constitutive models is the numerical integration of the incremental form of soil-plasticity constitutive equations over a discrete sequence of time steps. In this paper a well known two-surface soil plasticity model is implemented using a generalized implicit return mapping algorithm to arbitrary convex yield surfaces referred to as the Closest-Point-Projection method (CPPM). The two-surface model describes the nonlinear behavior of coarse-grained materials by incorporating a bounding surface concept together with isotropic and kinematic hardening as well as fabric formulation to account for the effect of fabric formation on the unloading response. In the course of investigating the performance of the CPPM integration method, it is proven that the algorithm is an accurate, robust, and efficient integration technique useful in finite element contexts. It is also shown that the algorithm produces a consistent tangent operator $\frac{d\sigma}{d\varepsilon}$ during the iterative process with quadratic convergence rate of the global iteration process.

  • Assuming perfect channel state information (CSI), the conventional interference alignment (IA) algorithm in the uplink cellular system suppresses inter-cell interference (ICI) by aligning ICI to a randomly selected reference vector. However, IA in practice relies on limited feedback between base stations and users, resulting in residual ICI. In this paper, we propose the optimization of the reference vector that minimizes the upper-bound of residual ICI power. Secondly, the iterative IA that designs the direction of transmit and receive filter is proposed to minimize the residual ICI as well as maximize the desired signals. Moreover, we propose the user scheduling method combined with proposed IA schemes which provides the multiuser diversity gain in multi-cell environments. Finally, the performance gain of the proposed IA algorithms compared with the existing IA are analyzed and demonstrated by simulation results.

  • The objective of this study is to develop an inventory model for the inventory management of a stocking point which sells processed fisheries products. The study, first of all, sets up fisheries processing companies, food companies, apparel companies, pharmaceutical companies and electronic and electrical companies as a population. Then, a comparative study is empirically applied to obtain the inventory characteristics of final products by industry through a survey of a sample selected by a random sampling procedure. The major inventory characteristics of processed fisheries products obtained from the above analysis can be summarized as follows : 1) The major demand characteristics of processed fisheries products is to have wide seasonal fluctuations because the supply of raw materials (i.e., fisheries products) heavily depends on the productive capacity of nature. 2) It has found that fisheries processing companies are the worst in inventory management among the various industries selected in the sample. However, the self-rating of inventory management system by inventory managers of companies shows that the fisheries processing companies are relatively higher than the other companies. 3) The portion of inventory holding cost out of inventory relevant cost is very high for processed fisheries products compared with final products of the other industries. 4) Processed fisheries products are distributed to final consumers through roughly two distribution echelons and take a parallel type inventory system for their distribution structure. In order to develop an inventory model which reflects the inventory characteristics of processed fisheries products mentioned in the above, an inventory model with partial backorders is developed under the situation of stochastic lead time under the consideration of the inventory characteristics of processed fisheries products and then an iterative solution method is provided for the model. Then this study analyzes sensitivity for the standard deviation of lead time in the model by numerical examples.

  • Recently, it has been shown that quantum coherence appears in energy transfers of various photosynthetic lightharvesting complexes at from cryogenic to even room temperatures. Because the photosynthetic systems are inherently complex, these findings have subsequently interested many researchers in the field of both experiment and theory. From the theoretical part, simplified dynamics or semiclassical approaches have been widely used. In these approaches, the quantum-classical Liouville equation (QCLE) is the fundamental starting point. Toward the semiclassical scheme, approximations are needed to simplify the equations of motion of various degrees of freedom. Here, we have adopted the Poisson bracket mapping equation (PBME) as an approximate form of QCLE and applied it to find the time evolution of the excitation in a photosynthetic complex from marine algae. The benefit of using PBME is its similarity to conventional Hamiltonian dynamics. Through this, we confirmed the coherent population transfer behaviors in short time domain as previously reported with a more accurate but more time-consuming iterative linearized density matrix approach. However, we find that the site populations do not behave according to the Boltzmann law in the long time limit. We also test the effect of adding spurious high frequency vibrations to the spectral density of the bath, and find that their existence does not alter the dynamics to any significant extent as long as the associated reorganization energy is changed not too drastically. This suggests that adopting classical trajectory based ensembles in semiclassical simulations should not influence the coherence dynamics in any practical manner, even though the classical trajectories often yield spurious high frequency vibrational features in the spectral density.

  • In this paper, we propose a new clustered reconfigurable interconnect network (CRIN) BIST to improve the embedding probabilities of random-pattern-resistant-patterns. The proposed method uses a scan-cell reordering technique based on the signal probabilities of given test cubes and specific hardware blocks that increases the embedding probabilities of care bit clustered scan chain test cubes. We have developed a simulated annealing based algorithm that maximizes the embedding probabilities of scan chain test cubes to reorder scan cells, and an iterative algorithm for synthesizing the CRIN hardware. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed CRIN BIST technique achieves complete fault coverage with lower storage requirement and shorter testing time in comparison with the conventional methods.

  • Timing-level circuit analyses are used to obtain fast and accurate results, and the analysis of gate and interconnect delay is necessary to validate the correctness of circuit design. This paper proposes an efficient algorithm which simultaneously calculates the gate delay and the transition time of linearized voltage source for subsequent interconnect delay calculation. The notion of effective capacitance is used to calculate the gate delay and the transition time of linearized voltage source which considers the on-resistance of driving gate. The procedure for obtaining the gate delay and the transition time of linearized voltage source has been developed through an iterative operation using the precharacterized data of gates. While previous methods require extra information for the transition time calculation of linearized voltage sources, our method uses the derived data during the gate delay calculation process, which does not require any change in the precharacterization process.

  • Small unmanned platforms maneuvering underwater are the key naval future forces, utilized as the asymmetric power in war. As a method of detecting and identifying such platforms, we introduce a property estimation technique based on an iterative numerical analysis. The property estimation technique can estimate not only the position of a target but also its physical properties. Moreover, it will have a potential in detecting and classifying still target or multiple targets. In this study, we have conducted the property estimation of an small underwater target using the data acquired from the lake experiment. As a result, it shows that the properties of a small platform may be roughly estimated from the in site data even using one channel.

  • We propose a multi-state model for analyzing semi-competing risks data with interval-censored or missing intermediate events. This model is an extension of the 'illness-death model', which composes three states, such as 'healthy', 'diseased', and 'dead'. The state of 'diseased' can be considered as an intermediate event. Two more states are added into the illness-death model to describe missing events caused by a loss of follow-up before the end of the study. One of them is a state of 'LTF', representing a lost-to-follow-up, and the other is an unobservable state that represents the intermediate event experienced after LTF occurred. Given covariates, we employ the Cox proportional hazards model with a normal frailty and construct a full likelihood to estimate transition intensities between states in the multi-state model. Marginalization of the full likelihood is completed using the adaptive Gaussian quadrature, and the optimal solution of the regression parameters is achieved through the iterative Newton-Raphson algorithm. Simulation studies are carried out to investigate the finite-sample performance of the proposed estimation procedure in terms of the empirical coverage probability of the true regression parameter. Our proposed method is also illustrated with the dataset adapted from Helmer et al. (2001).

  • Cable network system is a flexible lightweight structure which curved cables can transmit only tensile forces. The weight of cable roof dramatically can reduce when the length becomes large. The cable network system is too flexible, most cable systems are stabilized by pretension forces. The tensile force of cable system is greatly influenced by the sag ratio and pretension forces. Determining initial sag ratio of cable roof system is essential in a design process of cable structures. Final sag ratio and pretension depends on initial installed sag and on proper handling during installation. The design shape of cable system has an affect on the sag and pretension, and must be determined using well-defined design philosophy. This paper is carried out the comparative data of the deflection and tensile forces on the geometric non-linear analysis of cable network systems according to sag ratio. The study of cable network system is provided to technical informations for the design of a large span cable roof, analytical results are compared with the results of other researchers. Structural nonlinear analysis of systems having cable elements is relatively complex than other rigid structural systems because displacements are large as a reason of flexibility, initial prestress is applied to cables in order to increase the rigidity, and then divergence of nonlinear analysis occurs rather frequently. Therefore, cable network systems do not exhibit a typical nonlinear behavior, iterative method that can handle geometric nonlinearities are necessary.
