  • The radical development of modern mathematics is due to the appearance of Collection Theory by George Cantor. The Set Theory is independent as an area and also closely interrelated with other areas. So its content becomes a common sense and a basic part across the whole area of modern mathematics. Accordingly, the basic element of modern mathematics is helping young children get familiar with set as early as possible. The thinking of set by which children can categorize, make partial sets and correspondences, understand the general characteristic, and conceptualize the discovered relationships is very important for young children. At this point where the Math education for young children is emphasized under the influence of the modernization movement of Math education, the systematic education for building up the set concept as the basic background of number concept during the early childhood is required. On current mathematics education for young children, graphs, the foundation of geometry, time, and patterns have been included in the traditional and practical content related to numbers. However, the education on collection which is the foundation of number concept is insufficient. A study shows that the level of young children's understanding on set is quite high, but the set concept isn't reflected in current Math curriculum for young children. And basic activities neccesary on building up the set concept, such as categorization, comparison, etc. are conducted in kindergardens but unsatisfactory because of those kindergarden teachers' premature understanding on the set concept. In conclusion, the curriculum for young children should be reorganized based on the set concept as the kernel concept. Also, the reappraisal of the training curriculum and the supplementary efucation for kindergarden teachers are urgent for raising the teaching ability of those kindergarden teachers.

  • The results obtained by survey on 599 respondents of different age groups for preference of 84 prepared foods were subjected to statistical principal component analysis, factor analysis, analysis of variance, scheffe verification, and discriminant analysis so as to find a structure of preference for foods. The results may be summarized as follows: 1. The results of the factor analysis indicate that 84 prepared food items may be classified into 3 groups and that by knowing an indvidual's preference to one prepared food, one can presume his preference to the others in the same group without carrying out actual test. 2. The results from an analysis of variance showed that most of primary school children extremely liked snacks, seniors liked Korean cooking, primary school children and collegians had weaknesses for western cookings while kindergarden children and adults over 50 years old disliked them.

  • The speech movements are acquired activity, not determined by instincts or by biologic inheritance either. The child listens to the sound from the surrounding persons, observes the speech movement of the people and tried to imitate them. Then the child acquires their specific phonation pattern. We guessed that the parents influences to the child are very important in the developing of the speech movements. Because the parents are first contact person to the baby. The recognition of parents about the voice changes in the child will be important too. And social environments such as kindergarden, school, friends contact with, can influence to the voice of the child. We investigated the state of the voice, parents influence and social environmental factor. In the bases of this study, we knew that the parents recognition about the voice changes of child, faulty vocal habits of child, social environmental factors influenced to the voice of child. And we thought we have to do our best for the early detection of voice changes and proper treatment.

The subjects adapted in this study were 5-year-old boys and girls and their physical growth index was calculated by means of body weight and height. Dietary survey was performed by recording all the foods taken at daily basis for six days. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Living circumstances of the subjects. a) In most cases, subjects had two to three brothers and sisters. b) About 39% of boys were brought up by cow's milk and 34%, by mined nourishment with mother's milk and cow's milk, while approximately 40% of the girls were brought up by mother's milk and 37%, by mixed one. • This study examined the relationships between the cognitions and strategies of child's problem behaviors depending on the level of preschool teacher's professional development. Participants were 176 preschool teachers in B Metropolitan city. The teachers completed rating scales to measure teacher's professional development, the perception of child's problem behaviors, and teacher's guiding strategies for child's problem behaviors. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlations. Results showed that there were different cognitions of child's problem behaviors depending on the level of teacher's professional development. Secondly, child's problem behavior guiding strategies by the level of teacher's professional development were significant differences in the positive prevention strategy I, II, and the positive reaction strategy. Finally, there were somewhat different relationship between the cognition of child's problem behaviors and the problem behavior guiding strategies according to the level of teacher's professional development. Findings are discussed in terms of the importance of teacher's professional development in the context of teacher's education planning for teacher's guiding strategy about preschooler's problem behavior.
