  • The sewages produced from small villages, rural community, drinking water reservation area and park which doesn't have sewage piping system can be caused a serious water pollution at the restricted areas. The objective of this research was to suggest an economical and effective sewage treatment method by investigating the removal of the organics, nitrogen, and phosphorus in the multi-soil-layering reactor. Soil, natural zeolite, and iron slag were used as a supporting media of multi-soil-layering in this research. The purpose of natural zeolite addition was to maintain the consistent ammonium exchange capacity by providing a sequential environment, and that of iron slag addition was to remove phosphorus by adsorption. Continuous experiment of lab-scale single-soil-layering (S-1), multi-soil-layering (S-2), and mixed-soil-layering (S-3) methods were studied to compare and optimize three different types of the reactors. The organic removal efficiencies showed more than 90% in all three reactors. While S-1 and S-3 reactors showed about T-N removal of 31%, 45%, respectively, the average T-N removal efficiency of the S-2 reactor represented an 87%. In conclusion, that results suggest that the multi-soil-layering reactor could be effectively utilized as a plant for treatment of small village sewage.

  • The main objective of this research was to improve rooting of M.9 apple rootstock through layering time, shading, layering material and water content of the layering part. Among the treatments, rooting was improved by mother plant shading or an earlier covering (layering in shoot length 2 cm) of shoots. Rooting and root growth of sawdust, chaff or vermiculite treatments were significantly higher than those of the control (soil). In the study of layering material water content, -40 kPa treatment increased rooting ratio, number of roots and root growth compared to -60 kPa treatment and control. These results suggest that early-covering, layering with sawdust, chaff, or vermiculite, and keeping the water content in the layering part at -40 kPa could improve rooting and root growth in M.9 rootstock propagation.

  • This work was conducted to evaluate the effects of rooting on tissue cultured M.9 (Malus domestica Bork. cv, tcM.9) after layering in field. We investigated an appearance period of first root in shoot, rooting ratio, contents of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), abscisic acid (ABA), inorganic matters, sugars, and lignin in rooting areas of stems by layering. First root in shoot of tcM.9 and natural M.9 appeared 25 and 30 days after layering (DAL), respectively. Rooting ratio was much higher in tcM.9 than in natural M.9. The content of IAA was higher in tcM.9 than in natural M.9 before layering, but it was reversed at 20 and 30 DAL. In contrast, the content of ABA was much higher in natural M.9 than in tcM.9 in case of both before and 10 and 20 DAL. The contents of N, B, Mn, and Zn were significantly higher in tcM.9 than in natural M.9 both before and 10 and 20 DAL. The contents of sugars in tcM.9 had the similar pattern of the contents of inorganic materials. There were statistically significant differences in the contents of sucrose and glucose at 30 DAL as well as the content of maltose at 20 and 30 DAL. The content of lignin was significantly higher in tcM.9 than in natural M.9 before layering and 10 and 30 DAL while there was no difference 20 DAL. Therefore, improvement of rooting ability in the tissue cultured root stock M.9 might be due to the changes of inorganic matters or lignin rather than that of sugars and hormones.

  • This research aims to study the needs of the trail runners as trail running has become a popular outdoor activity, and give suggestions for high functional outdoor menswear design that can satisfy the needs of the highly demanding taste of runners. The design development is as follows: 1) The design had to be made of lightweight material and be easily packable in all situations, and 2) we also considered the ergonomic and compact fit for activity, 3) the functional location of high functional fabric, 4) the reflective use and layering system giving a wide range of outdoor workout time and 5) the trend in 2016 S/S active sports and outdoor wear. Based on the above elements, the men's outdoor wear design has been developed for trail running in spring and summer. The design development includes a total of 7 items. The design focused on lightweight, availability of packaging, "comfortability" and freshness in activity, functional suitability of location of highly functional materials and the layering system to protect body temperature under the changing environment. In particular, the layering system was implemented to provide ventilation, and it was done in body parts that released the most body heat. Therefore, mesh materials were actively used on the side panel, sleeves and center of the back piece for necessary sweat emission without any problems and ventilation for trail running.

  • PURPOSE. This study aimed to evaluate the fit of zirconia ceramics before and after veneering, using 3 different veneering processes (layering, press-over, and CAD-on techniques). MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty standardized zirconia CAD/CAM frameworks were constructed and divided into three groups of 10 each. The first group was veneered using the traditional layering technique. Press-over and CAD-on techniques were used to veneer second and third groups. The marginal gap of specimens was measured before and after veneering process at 18 sites on the master die using a digital microscope. Paired t-test was used to evaluate mean marginal gap changes. One-way ANOVA and post hoc tests were also employed for comparison among 3 groups (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. Marginal gap of 3 groups was increased after porcelain veneering. The mean marginal gap values after veneering in the layering group ($63.06{\mu}m$) was higher than press-over ($50.64{\mu}m$) and CAD-on ($51.50{\mu}m$) veneered groups (P<.001). CONCLUSION. Three veneering methods altered the marginal fit of zirconia copings. Conventional layering technique increased the marginal gap of zirconia framework more than pressing and CADon techniques. All ceramic crowns made through three different veneering methods revealed clinically acceptable marginal fit.

  • The purpose of three-dimensional (3-D) metal printing using 5-axis is to deposit metal powder by changing the orientation of the deposited structure to be built for the overhang or undercut feature on part geometry. This requires a complicated preprocess functionality of providing three dimensionally sliced layers to cover the required part geometry. This study addresses the overhang/undercut problem in 3-D metal printing and discusses a possible solution of providing 3-D layers to be built using the DMT(R) machine.

  • This study was to determine the effect of garment closures and layering systems on insulation, using a thermal movable manikin in cold weather conditions. The insulation values of ensembles with opened and closed features were measured, and those of four different layered clothing ensembles were tested while standing and while walking. Our research indicated that when there was an opening involved in design the system, insulation decreased; even a zip-out lining in the armpit affected little. If a light weight jacket and pants are put on over a fleece shirt and pants instead polyester underwear, the amount of insulation increase was 0.43 clo.

  • This paper presents experimental optimization of process parameters for a newly developed SFF(Solid Freeform Fabrication) system. Two critical process parameters, layering thickness and curing period, which have a large effect on the quality of the product, are optimized through experiments. Specimens are produced using layering thicknesses of 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, and $160\;{\mu}m$ and curing periods of 0, 10, 20, and 30 minutes under the same processing conditions, i.e., build-room temperature, feed-room temperature, roller speed, laser power, scan speed, and scan spacing. The specimens are tested to compare and analyze performance indices such as thickness accuracy, flatness, stress-strain characteristics, and porosity. The experimental result indicates that layering thickness of $80{\sim}100\;{\mu}m$ and curing period of $20{\sim}30$ minutes are recommended for the developed industrial SFF system.
