  • The purpose of this study was to examine relationships between the preschoolers' fathers' psychological life position and fathering practice. A survey containing questions about psychological life position and fathering role performance was administered to a sample of 171 preschooler's fathers in the Seoul, Kyung-gi and Incheon province areas. Data was organized using Windows SPSS 12.0 and it was analyzed by various statistical methods including frequency, percentile, mean, standard deviations, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, t-test, Anova, Scheffe's multiple range test and Pearson's correlation. The findings of this study were as follows. First, most of the preschoolers' fathers had positive psychological life positions, and tried to understand and have conversations with their children. Second, the father's psychological life position made a significant difference in the area of the father's occupation. Also, there were differences in the fathering practices as related to age and occupation. Third, the psychological life position of the preschooler's father was related to his fathering practices.

  • We cloned the $\beta$-tubulin genes from the wild type strain and two benomyl-resistant mutants of Metahizium anisopliae and determined their nucleotide sequences. A $\beta$-tubulin encoding 448-residue protein from wild type M. anisopliae shows strong homology to other $\beta$-tubulins. The coding region is interrupted by four introns. Comparisons of intron position between the M. anisopliae gene and other fungal $\beta$-tubulin genes show considerable positional conservation. The mutations responsible for benomyl resistance were determined in two spontaneous mutants, 8-18 and 819. One mutant 8-18 substituted glutamate for asparagine at position 33 and lysine for glutamine at position 134. The other mutant 8-19 showed alterations at three positions of $\beta$-tubulin arginine for tryptophan at position 21, lysine for asparagine at position 33, and phenylalanine for leucine at position 240. These data suggest that regions of $\beta$-tubulin containing amino acids 21, 33,134, and 240 interact to form the binding site of benomyl.

  • This study examined the relationships among maternal psychological life position, involvement in child-rearing and children's emotional intelligence. The subjects were 267 four and five-year-old children and their mothers from five child care centers located in Seoul. Children's emotional intelligence was assessed by the teacher rating scale developed by Kin(1998) and questionnaires were used to assess the maternal psychological life position and involvement in child-rearing. Data was analyzed by t-test, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. Results demonstrated a correlation between the level of the children's emotional intelligence and their gender and age. The strongest predictor of children's emotional intelligence was the child's age.

The study subjects were 267 four and five-year-old children and their mothers from five childcare centers located in Seoul. The children's social behavior was assessed by the teacher rating scale developed by Lim(1999) and questionnaires were used to assess the maternal psychological life position and children's emotional intelligence. Data was analyzed by t-test, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. The results demonstrated that the children's social behavior differed according to their gender and age. • We investigated the work-life balance of clinical professors in charge of patient care, research, and education at medical schools and the demand for work-life balance support according to position (professor, associate professor, or assistant professor). In total, 163 clinical professors completed the consent form and participated in the study. They filled out an online survey consisting of questions about essential characteristics, a work-life balance test, stress, burnout, work-life satisfaction, and work-life balance support needs. We analyzed the results by analysis of variance and cross-tabulation using IBM SPSS ver. 23.0. Differences were found in work-life balance, stress, burnout, and satisfaction with life and work by position. The requirements for support for work-life balance also varied by professional status. Professors had a higher balance between life and work than associate professors or assistant professors. The specific requirements for work-life balance support were also slightly different for each position. Overall, there was a high demand for work process simplification and efficiency for work support, flexible working hours and sabbatical years for family and leisure, and career management consulting and training support for growth. Assistant professors and associate professors had a lower level of work-life balance than professors, as well as higher levels of stress and burnout. Professors' job satisfaction was also higher than that of the other groups. Based on the results of this study, we hope that a healthy work environment can be established through work-life balance support suitable for clinical professors' positions.

  • Pregnancies of unmarried women are one of the most serious sex problems because they can negatively affect the lives and development of both unwed mothers and their extramarital children. The number of unwed adolescent mothers is growing recently, extending the seriousness of the problem. This study was conducted to explore the ego-state, life position and family systems that may cause unmarried pregnancy. The data obtained from the structured questionnaire survey of 79 unmarried adolescent mothers and 82 female adolescents were analyzed in terms of frequency and t-test using the SPSS WIN 8.0 program. The results were as follows: 1. Ego-state elements of unmarried adolescent mothers were distributed evenly in general and this falls under the All B(BBBBB) type of ego-gram, just like the adolescents. As for the subject adolescent mothers, CP was the lowest among the 5 egos. 2. As to the life position, the position of "I′m OK, You′re OK"was the highest for both groups, with slight differences. 3. With regard to the family system types sorted by the combination of family cohesion and family adaptability levels, both the adolescent. mothers and adolescents tended to perceive their families as somewhat-balanced or balanced families. 4. While the two groups of adolescent mothers and adolescents showed, on the whole, the same types for all the indicators like above, statistically significant differences were found in more detailed elements.

  • Structural analyses have shown that nucleotides at the positions 770 and 771 of Escherichia coli 16S rRNA are implicated in forming one of highly conserved intersubunit bridges of the ribosome, B2c. To examine a functional role of these residues, base substitutions were introduced at these positions and mutant ribosomes were analyzed for their protein synthesis ability using a specialized ribosome system. The results showed requirement of a pyrimidine at the position 770 for ribosome function regardless of the nucleotide identity at the position 771. Sucrose gradient profiles of ribosomes revealed that the loss of protein-synthesis ability of mutant ribosome bearing a base substitution from C to G at the position 770 stems from its inability to form 70S ribosomes. These findings indicate involvement of nucleotide at the position 770, not 771, in ribosomal subunit association and provide a useful rRNA mutation that can be used as a target to investigate the physical interaction between 16S and 23S rRNA.

  • This study focused on the optimization of the illumination method for efficient use of light energies in a photobioreactor. In order to investigate the effect of radiator position, a model simulation study was carried out using Synechococcus sp. PCC 6301 and an internally radiating photobioreactor as a model system. The efficiency of light transfer in a photobioreactor was analyzed by estimating the average light intensity in a photobioreactor. The simulation result, indicate that there exists an optimal position of internal radiators, and that the optimal position varies with radiator number and cell concentration. When light radiators are placed at the optimal position, the average light intensity is about 30% higher than that obtained by placing radiators at the circumstance or center of a photobioreactor. The method presented in this work may be useful for improving light transfer efficiency in a photobioreactor.
