  • We introduce a rotating-gantry-based x-ray micro-tomography system to be used for small animal imaging studies. It has the zoom-in imaging capability for high resolution imaging of a local region inside the animal subject without any contrast anomalies arising from truncation of the projection data. With the sliding mechanism mounted on the rotating gantry holding the x-ray source and the x-ray detector, we can control the magnification ratio of the x-ray projection data. By combining the projection data from the large field of view (FOV) scan of the whole animal subject and the projection data from the small FOV scan of the region of interest, we can obtain artifact-free zoomed-in images of the region of interest. For the acquisition of x-ray projection data, we use a $1248{\times}1248$ flat-panel x-ray detector with the pixel pitch of 100 mm. It has been experimentally found that the developed system has the spatial resolution of up to 121p/mm when the highest magnification ratio of 5:1 is applied to the zoom-in imaging. We present some in vivo rat femur images to demonstrate utility of the developed system for small animal imaging.

  • This paper discusses the optical system design for projection TV using LCOS type micro display, which provides the high resolution, slim depth, and a large screen of more than 60 inches. We analyzed the relationship between the illumination system, projection lens, color separation & recombination system, and micro display. From this quantitative analysis, the starting data for the optimum light engine was defined, and all optical systems were designed by an optimization process. Three RGB panels were proposed for a high luminence system, and the four prisms symmetrically located make equal optical path lengths for the RGB rays. This color separation & recombination system enables the a compact illumination system. Also, in order to the slim light engine with high resolution, the folded projection lens system was designed by inserting a mirror between projection lenses.

  • Microstereolithography technology is similar to the conventional stereolithography process and enables to fabricate a complex 3D microstructure. This is divided into scanning and projection type according to aiming at precision and fabrication speed. The scanning MSL fabricates each layer using position control of laser spot on the resin surface, whereas the projection MSL fabricates one layer with one exposure using a mask. In the projection MSL, DMD used to generate dynamic pattern consists of $1024{\times}768$ micromirrors which have $13.68{\mu}m$ per side. The fabrication range and resolution are determined by the field of view of the DMD and the magnification of the projection lens. If using the projection lens with high power, very fine microstructures can be fabricated. In this paper, the projection MSL system adapted to a large surface for array-type fabrication is presented. This system covers the meso range, which is defined as the intermediate range between micro and macro, with a resolution of a few ${\mu}m$. The fabrication of array-type microstructures has been demonstrated to verify the performance of implemented system.

  • This study presents method for self-calibration of the SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) stereo image using the standard microprobe with same grid pattern and using parallel and central perspective projection equation. Result showed that parallel projection method is more suitable for standard microprobe. The maximum error of 3D coordinates acquired by this method did not exceed 5 $\mu\textrm{m}$, and DSM(Digital Surface Model) for three dimensional measurement of the rock sample was generated by the digital photogrammetry. This result can be used for quantification of micro scale change of shape and analysis of the micro morphology of rock due to weathering.

  • LED has gained its importance in the projection display market from very compact, micro-projectors to potentially high output, desktop systems. In both of these systems, the output levels are less than desirable. This paper describes practical recycling and multiplexing systems that provide brightness increases, and allow projectors to achieve outputs beyond its current levels.

  • We have developed a high-contrast ambient-light rejection projection screen with surface micro-structures for front and rear projection displays with an oblique-angle projector. We have fabricated prototype screens that show a better than $10{\times}$ improvement in contrast compared to a matte-white screen under various ambient lighting conditions and screen luminance.

  • MD (DLP, LCoS) Projection TV is appropriate for large screen display with high definition at a relatively low price and thus, has been popular in the digital TV market. In order to realize high resolutions in the DLP projection TV, we successfully developed the Pixel Enhancement Actuator. Furthermore, it is also required that the contrast ratio of projected video signals onto a large screen should be improved. Therefore, we propose a contrast enhancer which adjusts the amount of projected lights by a dynamic aperture and a attached position sensor.
