  • This study identifies regional problems caused by the relocation and dismantlement of military units by the government's Defense Reform 2.0 and examines the current situation. This study provides policy implications for future regional development by discussing the use of military idle land in the border region and seeking how to revitalize the region through urban regeneration. In order to utilize and manage the military idle land, first, the mutually beneficial development of the military unit and the local community must be achieved through the establishment of governance between private, government, and military sectors. Second, review and improvement of laws and systems related to border regions and military idle lands should be accompanied. Third, the various ideas and policies that reflect the uniqueness of the border region must be established. Finally, this study provided implications for the efficient utilization and management of sustainable idle land by reflecting the specificity of the border region in the future.

  • The U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration proposed a new concept of urban air mobility in the city's short-range air transport ecosystem in order to build a new low-altitude air, and the term uam is currently used worldwide. This paradigm is also being promoted by the Korean government with the goal of commercializing urban air transport services by 2025, and furthermore, the need to secure air maneuvers and transportation capacity is emerging due to the rapidly changing future operating environment and battlefield space. In other words, this study started to present the military necessity and military operation plan by introducing the 'Agility Prime' program of the US Air Force. 'Agility Prime' program was organized in order of background and concept of urban air mobility, development trend of Korean urban air mobility and analysis of the US Air Force's 'Agility Prime' program, and it is expected that this study will be followed by a follow-up study.

  • As urbanization progresses in Korea, megacities are being formed around the metropolitan area, the central area, and the southeast area. In addition, it is accelerating the development of urban air mobility (UAM) that can be operated by Mega City as a new growth engine industry in the future. At the same time, in order to become a space powerhouse, Korea plans to establish its own Korean positioning system (KPS) by 2035. Therefore, if urban air mobility and location information services provided by the Korean positioning system are used in combination, urban air mobility can be stably operated in future megacities.

  • As the technologies of the 4th industrial revolution develops, spatial information is becoming digitized. Now, even with a smartphone, we can easily identify the location of national & military critical facilities located in the mega cities. As a result, mega cities' national & military critical facilities were exposed to not only traditional threats, but also non-traditional threats such as terrorism, cyber hacking, and criminal activities. This study suggests a way to protect national & military critical facilities of mega cities from such threats. Considering limitation of time & resources, protecting perfectly all national & military critical facilities is impossible, so we should focus on their critical nodes. Specifically, We suggest ways to protect the critical nodes by converging some measures such as design & arrangement in harmony with the surrounding environment, underground construction & covering, and visual deception. Transparency of digital spatial information will further increase with the advent of urban air mobility and autonomous vehicles in the future. Therefore, in order to prepare for future threats, we should take measures to minimize the exposure of critical nodes.

  • This paper aimed to analyze the type of urban shrinkage over the past 20 years for four case cities designated as abandoned mining area promotion zones and present the direction of future urban spatial policies through the analysis of shrinking status. According to the analysis of urban shrinkage in the past 20 years, all of the case cities were analyzed as fixed-type shrinking cities, showing a population decrease of more than 30% over the past 40 years compared to the peak population. Despite the decrease in population, the designated area of urbanization and non-urban areas is increasing every year, and the development permit and construction permit in non-urban areas are also increasing, requiring efficient management and operation of urban space. It is necessary to study military-level cities in the high-risk phase of extinction in the future, and to develop various indicators for segmentation of urban shrinkage types and analysis of status by type.

  • SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) has the ability to generate high resolution images regardless of a weather condition(e.g. visibility good or poor and day or night, etc.). SAR is considered as one of the most important powers and needs for the future since it has been utilized in a number of important military fields such as early warning, urban defense, missile guidance system, etc. Additionally there are many civilian demands and applications in aviation, traffic control, earth and space explorations, weather forecast etc. This days, the ability to acquire and analyze information is needed to cope with the urgency of global politics and international changes. In this paper, technical survey and development review for SAR systems are investigated to derive the core and immature technologies of domestic defense industry.

  • UAM is emerging as the biggest issue in the aviation industry and which is attracting a lot of attention not only domestically but also internationally. In Korea, active research is being conducted centered on the government and industry-university research institutes, such as the establishment of a future K-UAM concept of operation. Therefore, in this study applies the SORA (Specific Operation Risk Assessment) model established by the European JARUS (Joint Authorities for Rulemaking on Unmanned Systems) to apply the K-UAM operation environment and specific corridor for the purpose of cargo transportation that will be operated in the future that the government is promoting. We intend to suggest policy and technical measures for risk mitigation in the initial operating environment by evaluating the level of risk and analyzing the results.

  • US Army Found Five Lessons For the Urban Operations After Implemented Offensive Operations in Mosul, Iraq for the First time in the 21st Century. Based on these lessons the US Army Adds Spur Preparing For Future Megacity Operations Such as Weapon System, Warfighting Concept, Structure and etc. Korean peninsula experiences rapid Urbanization, so the Megacities are also Expected to Increase by this trend. So the ROK army also need to Benchmark the US Counterpart, so that the Organization needs to prepare following Elements. First, Establishing Collective Intelligence Platform for uture Megacity ops. Second, force Builing Optimized for the Megacity Operations(Warfighting Concept, Weapon System, Structures), Lastly, Establishing Megacity Synthetic Training field. By Preparing so, ROKA can Assure its Success in Future Warfare.
