  • Purpose : To verify the skin dose in Tomotherapy-based radiation treatment according to the change in tumor locations, skin dose was measured by using Gafchromic EBT3 film and compared with the planned doses to find out the gap between them. Materials and Methods : In this study, to measure the skin dose, I'm RT Phantom(IBA Dosimetry, Germany) was utilized. After obtaining the 2.5mm CT images, tumor locations and skin dose measuring points were set by using Pinnacle(ver 9.2, Philips Medical System, USA). The tumor location was decided to be 5mm and 10mm away from surface of the phantom and center. Considering the attenuation of a Tomo-couch, we ensured a symmetric placement between the ceiling and floor directions of the phantom. The measuring point of skin doses was set to have 3mm and 5mm thickness from the surface. Measurement was done 3 times. By employing TomoHD(TomoHD treatment system, Tomotherapy Inc., Madison, Wisconsin, USA), we devised Tomotherapy plans, measured 3 times by inserting Gafchromic EBT3 film into the phantom and compared the measurement with the skin dose treatment plans. Results : The skin doses in the upper part of the phantom, when the tumor was located in the center, were found to be 7.53 cGy and 7.25 cGy in 5mm and 3mm respectively. If placed 5mm away from the skin in the ceiling direction, doses were 18.06 cGy and 16.89 cGy; if 10mm away, 20.37 cGy and 18.27 cGy, respectively. The skin doses in the lower part of the phantom, when the tumor was located in the center, recorded 8.82 cGy and 8.29 cGy in 5mm and 3mm, each; if located 5mm away from the lower part skin, 21.69 cGy and 19.78 cGy were respectively recorded; and if 10mm away, 20.48 cGy and 19.57 cGy were recorded. If the tumor was placed in the center, skin doses were found to increase by 3.2~17.1% whereas if the tumor is 5mm away from the ceiling part, the figure decreased to 2.8~9.0%. To the Tomo-couch direction, skin doses showed an average increase of 11% or over, compared to the planned treatment. Conclusion : This study found gaps between planned skin doses and actual doses in the Tomotherapy treatment planning. Especially to the Tomo-cocuh direction, skin doses were found to be larger than the planned doses. Thus, during the treatment of tumors near the Tomo-couch, doses will need to be more accurately calculated and more efforts to verify skin doses will be required as well.

  • Objective : To evaluate the anatomical feasibility of 3.5 mm screw into the cervical spine in the pediatric population and to establish useful guidelines for their placement. Methods : A total of 37 cervical spine computerized tomography scans (24 boys and 13 girls) were included in this study. All patients were younger than 10 years of age at the time of evaluation for the period of 2007-2011. Results : For the C1 screw placement, entry point height (EPH) was the most restrictive factor (47.3% patients were larger than 3.5 mm). All C2 lamina had a height larger than 3.5 mm and 68.8% (51/74) of C2 lamina had a width thicker than 3.5 mm. For C2 pedicle width, 55.4% (41/74) of cases were larger than 3.5 mm, while 58.1% (43/74) of pedicle heights were larger than 3.5 mm. For pedicle width of subaxial spine, 75.7% (C3), 73% (C4), 82.4% (C5), 89.2% (C6), and 98.1% (C7, 1/54) were greater than 3.5 mm. Mean lamina width of subaxial cervical spine was 3.1 (C3), 2.7 (C4), 2.9 (C5), 3.8 (C6), and 4.0 mm (C7), respectively. Only 34.6% (127/370) of subaxial (C3-7) lamina thickness were greater than 3.5 mm. Mean length of lateral mass for the lateral mass screw placement was 9.28 (C3), 9.08 (C4), 8.81 (C5), 8.98 (C6), and 10.38 mm (C7). Conclusion : C1 lateral mass fixation could be limited by the morphometrics of lateral mass height. C2 translamina approach is preferable to C2 pedicle screw fixation. In subaxial spines, pedicle screw placement was preferable to trans-lamina screw placement, except at C7.

  • The evaporation heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop of R-22 and R-407C in horizontal copper tubes were investigated experimentally. The main components of therefrigerant loop are a receiver, a compressor, a mass flow meter, a condenser and a double pipe type evaporator (test section). The test section consists of a smooth copper tube of 4.3 mm and 6.4 mm inner diameter. The refrigerant mass fluxes were varied from 100 to $300[kg/m^2s]$ and the saturation temperature of evaporator were 5 [$^{\circ}C$]. The evaporation heat transfer coefficients of R-22 and R-407C rise with the increase in mass flux and vapor quality. The evaporation heat transfer coefficient of R-22 for inner diameter tube of 4.3 mm and 6.4 mm is about $7.3{\sim}47.1%$ and $5.68{\sim}46.6%$ higher than that of R-407C, respectively.

  • Purpose: The object of this study was to investigate the difference in torque and pullout strength between the standard anchor insertion (5.0 mm) with a small awl (3.7 mm) and larger anchor insertion (6.5 mm), with a standard awl (5.0 mm) in osteoporotic humeral head. Materials and Methods: The embalmed 24 paired cadaveric shoulders were assigned to either Group A or B. After measuring the bone mineral density (BMD) of the ROI (region of interest) in the humeral head, 5.0 mm suture anchors were inserted using a 3.7 mm awl in Group A1, and the same 5.0 mm anchors were inserted using a 5.0 mm awl in Group A2. The 5.0 mm anchors were inserted using a 5.0 mm awl in Group B1, and 6.5 mm anchors were inserted using a 5.0 mm awl in Group B2. We measured the torques at the time of the anchor insertion and pullout strengths. Results: There was no significant difference in the BMD between the groups. The torque of A1 (20.6 $cN{\cdot}m$) was significantly higher than that of A2 (13.2 $cN{\cdot}m$), and the torque of B2 (20.8 $cN{\cdot}m$) was significantly higher than that of B1(12.1 $cN{\cdot}m$). However, the difference in the increased torque between group A and B was not significant. The pullout strength of A1 (204.2 N) was significantly higher than that of A2 (152.9 N), and the pullout strength of B2 (210.9 N) was significantly higher than that of B1 (149.5 N). However, the difference in the increased pullout strength between Group A and B was not significant. Conclusion: In severe osteoporosis, the use of a larger suture anchor with a standard awl increased the torque and pullout strength significantly, in comparison to the use of the same sized suture anchor and awl. If there is an inadequate interval between the anchors on the greater tuberosity, the use of a 3.7 mm awl and 5.0 mm anchor will be beneficial compared to that of a 5.0 mm awl and 6.5 mm anchor, considering that an increase in the pullout strength does not depend on the awl size.

  • To use the earth heat for the livestock housing, an underground heat exchanger is developed and pipes are layed in the depth of 2.5m under the ground. The pipes have two different kinds of diameter (200mm, 100mm) and materials (PE, PVC). The results of heating effect in winter and spring are following. The temperature in different soil depth varies from 5$^{\circ}C$ by 1.5m depth, to 9$^{\circ}C$ by 3.5m. So it should be better to have the depth greater than 2.5m. The difference of air temperature between the inside and outside pipe was 9.9 Kelvin(K) with 200mm diameter and 13.4K with the 100mm diameter with the same material in winter. By the lower outside temperature from -7.2$^{\circ}C$, it could keep the air temperature above 6$^{\circ}C$ through the 100mm diameter pipe. The heating performance was 593 W with 200mm diameter, 118W with 100mm diameter (PE), and 115W with 100m diameter (PVC), respectively. As the outside temperature varies from -1.5$^{\circ}C$ to 18.6$^{\circ}C$ in early spring, the air temperature through the pipes show 4∼8$^{\circ}C$. While the difference between maximum and minimum outside temperature is 14K, the one through the pipes could be reduced by 2K. Pipes with small diameter can more reduce the difference than the pipe with larger diameter.

  • Morphological characteristics, developmental period, and seasonal occurrence of Adeia leucomelas (L.) were investigated from 1999 to 2000. In addition, consumption of sweetpotato as food was also examined. Adults of A. leucomelas were dark-brown and body lengths of females and males were 20.2 mm and 18.9 mm, respectively, Wing expanse of female and male was 33.7 mm and 29.4mm, respectively. Egg was flat round-shape. Larva was light yellow-green to dark-brown with 3.3-53.5 mm. Pupa was deep-brown and 15.1 mm in length. Developmental periods of A. leucomelas from egg to adult emergence at different temperatures of 15, 20, 25, and 30$^{\circ}$C were 108.5, 70.7, 40.2, and 29.1 days, respectively, Developmental threshold (DT) and effective accumulative temperatures were estimated as 10.7$^{\circ}$C and 67.5 DD in egg stage, 11.0$^{\circ}$C and 275.1 DD in larval stage and 9.3$^{\circ}$C and 244.6 DD in pupal stage, respectively. The longevity of adult female was shortened with increment of temperature, whereas the total numbers of eggs laid by a female were increased. The larvae of A.leucomelas occurred from mid-June to early October, and population reached its peak during early to mid-September in Jeonbuk province. Food consumption of A. leucomelas was highest at 20-25$^{\circ}$C. Food consumption of 1 st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th larvae of A. leucomelas per day at 25$^{\circ}$C was 0.4, 3.6, 19.6, 40.7, and 78.9 $\textrm{cm}^2$, respectively.
